Jack L. Minnick

ABINGDON -- Jack Leon Minnick, 68, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and attended Shady Grove United Methodist Church.
He retired from Westinghouse Electrical Materials Division after 15 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Minnick; one son, David Wayne Minnick, Newport, Tenn.; three daughters, Patsy Minnick McKee, Glade Spring, Donna Minnick Roberts and Teresa Minnick Stone, both of Abingdon; one sister, Dorothy Minnick Huddleson, Effingham, Ill.;. six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Ruth H. Shepherd

ABINGDON -- Mrs. Ruth HayesShepherd, 90, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She had been a resident of Greenbelt, Md., for many years before moving to Abingdon five years ago.
She was the widow of Ancil Shepherd.
Survivors include two sons, Paul Shepherd, White Plains, Md., and Ron Shepherd, Owings, Md.; four daughters, Betty Richardson, Bristol, Tennessee, Freida Keene, Peggy Shepherd and Fran Anderson, all of Abingdon; two sisters, Ethel V. Hummel and Eva Kite, both of NHC Healthcare, Bristol, Virginia; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Kenneth W. Smith

Kenneth W. Smith, 72, of 322 Moore St., Apt. 1, Bristol, Va., died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Marie Combs Smith.
There are no known surviving family members. He is survived by three special friends, Bob Clark, Linda Phillips and Ann Browning.
Arrangements are incomplete until special friends are located.
Blevins Funeral Home is in charge.

Ella A. Snapp

BLUFF CITY -- Ella Anderson Snapp, 78, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bluff City and a retired employee of Univac.
She was a member of Central Holston Christian Church and the Loyal Workers Sunday School class.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jim (Katherine) Martin, Bluff City; two grandchildren, Sherri Phillippi, Bristol, Tennessee, and Scott Martin, Gray, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Raleigh D. Stallard

WISE -- Raleigh D. Stallard, 97, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Wise Appalachian Regional Hospital, Wise.
He was a retired custodian of Wise Elementary School and attended the Beverly Hills Tabernacle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Belle Stallard.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Ramey, Lafayette, Ind.; four sons, Douglas A. Stallard, Coeburn, Roger D. Stallard, Wise, Gerald D. Stallard and George Larry Stallard, both of Akron, Ohio; 28 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, is in charge.

Ava G. Viers

GRUNDY -- Ava Gay Ratliff Viers, 38, of Poplar Creek section, died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1977.
She was a former employee of Sawyers and Garbee Accounting Firm and Nanny's Hallmark Store, Grundy, and was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Eddie G. Viers; her parents, Glenn Deek and Lillie Mae Clevinger Ratliff, Grundy; two sisters, Mrs. Liz Ratliff Slone, Steele, Ky., and Miss Sarah Victoria Ratliff, Grundy; one brother, Robert John Ratliff, Grundy; her maternal grandmother, Goma Belcher, Minora, W.Va.; and her paternal grandmother, Garnett Ratliff, Grundy.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge.

Ida M. Cole

ELLISVILLE, Miss. -- Mrs. Ida Mary Mitchell Cole, 79, of Laurel, Miss., died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Jones County Rest Home.
She was a retired secretary, a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Laurel, and the widow of D.E. Cole.
Survivors include one son, Steve Cole, Heidelberg, Miss.; one sister, Mrs. Carolyn Carmouche, Lafeyette, La.; and two grandchildren.
Memory Chapel Funeral Home, Laurel, Miss., and Akard Funeral Home, Bristol, Tennessee, are in charge.

Sammy M. Coleman

VANSANT -- Sammy Mack Coleman, 47, of the Leemaster area, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Lewis Gale Hospital, Roanoke.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a lifelong resident there and was a graduate of Grundy High School Class of 1968.
He attended Primitive Baptist Church, had served as vice-president of Southwest Virginia Chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation and was a disabled carpenter.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Bowman Coleman; one goddaughter, Carmen Carroll, Roanoke;. one son, Gerald Blake Coleman, Vansant; four sisters, Mrs. Ora (Dorothy) Cantrell, Mrs. Joe (Onice) Cook and Mrs. John (Diane) Feazelle, all of Salem, Va., and Mrs. Estil (Pauline) Nuckels, Vansant; and one brother, Billy Coleman, Princeton, W.Va.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary E. Crumley

Johnson CITY -- Mary E. Massengill Crumley, 89, of 129 Ridgemont Road, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Asbury Center.
She was a native of Sullivan County, had lived in Johnson City for the past two years and was a member of Piney Flats United Methodist Church.
She was a retired Sullivan County school teacher and a member of the Sullivan County Historical Society and the Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jane Oliver, Johnson City; one son, Gary Douglas McKamey, Leonardtown, Md.; four stepsons, Jerry Crumley and Joe Crumley, both of Piney Flats, John Carl Crumley, Hilton, N.Y., and Donald Crumley, Johnson City; one stepdaughter, Carolyn Crumley Pearson, Johnson City; one sister, Hannah Worley Smith, Bluff City; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; several step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City, is in charge.

Mary K. Emery

ABINGDON -- Mrs. Mary Kate Emery, 90, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, at the home of a nephew, T.W. Pearce Jr., 15038 Rattle Creek Road, Abingdon.
She was a native of Mantachie, Miss., and had lived in Akron, Ohio, before moving to Abingdon in 1971.
She was a retired health care provider, a member of Abingdon Church of Christ, and a former member of Abingdon Senior Citizens.
She was the widow of Lester L. Emery.
Survivors include three stepdaughters, Nancy Colton, Huntington Beach, Calif., Mary Sue Riley, Morgan Hill, Calif., and Christine Jackson, Akron, Ohio; one brother, Austin "Bill" Pearce, Akron, Ohio; one granddaughter; three great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Campbell Funeral Home, Abingdon, is in charge.
