Vivian Phelps Hagy, 80, of 210 Oak Street, Bristol, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in NHC Healthcare, Bristol.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was the widow of Marshall Hagy.
She was a retired employee of the former Grey's Hosiery Mill and was a long-time volunteer for the Blood Mobile and Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a member of Hunt Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include four sisters, Thelma Jones, West Palm Beach, Fla., Jane Flannagan and Ella Pendleton, both of Abingdon, and Shirley Laird, Sugar Land, Texas; one brother, Orbin S. Phelps, Abingdon; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Elsdon B. Heron
Elsdon Boyd Heron, 80, of 211 Hemlock Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Pittsburgh and a resident of Bristol since 1955.
He was a veteran of World War II, and spent most of his working career tuning pianos.
During the past 30 years, he has spent most of his time pursuing his avid interest hybridizing Aesclepias.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Oyler Heron; one daughter, Janet Poley, Roswell, Ga.; three sons, William Heron, Charlotte, N.C.; James Heron, Augusta, Ga., and Dale Heron, Framingham, Mass; one sister, Harriet Pauley, Tallahassee, Fla.; and five grandchildren.

WISE -- Ina Tempa Wheatley Miller, 93, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
She was of the Protestant faith, a devoted homemaker and was the widow of Leonard Elmer Miller.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Collins, Wise, and Dorothy "Dot" Fulcher, Blountville; four sons, James E. Miller, G.T. Miller and Ralph E. Miller, all of Wise, and Robert E. Miller, Charlottesville; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and 30 great-great-grandchildren.

Lonnie W. Murray
Lonnie Wilson Murray, 87, of 20193 Joy Drive, Bristol, Va., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Grayson County, Va., had lived in Washington County, Va., most of his life and was a farmer there.
He was a charter member and deacon of Lime Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, Tommy Murray, Bristol, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Daniel Draper, Mt. Carmel, Tenn., and Jeff Draper, Honolulu, Hawaii; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Earl O. Pairgin
BLOUNTVILLE -- Earl O. Pairgin, 72, of 315 Twin Oaks Lane, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., and had lived in the Cross community of Bristol, Tennessee most of his life.
He was a retired employee of Kerns Bakery and was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth S. Pairgin; one daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Sandra) Stapleton, Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Minnie Calhoun, Bristol, Virginia; one granddaughter, August Hope Stapleton; one foster grandchild, Thomas Grant Slaughter; one foster nephew; and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth W. Smith
Kenneth W. Smith, 72, of 322 Moore St., Apt. 1, Bristol, Va., died Friday, Jan. 9, 1998, at his home.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Marie Combs Smith.
There are no known surviving family members. He is survived by three special friends, Bob Clark, Linda Phillips and Ann Browning.

Hubert A. Stewart Sr.
SHELBY, N.C. -- Hubert Alvin Stewart Sr., 73, of 3013 Harold Court, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Bristol, Virginia and a retired driver for McLean Trucking.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, a member of Zoar Baptist Church, and was known as a musician with CB handle of "Piano Picker."
Survivors include his wife, Ruby McGuire Irby Stewart; three sons, Robert F. Stewart, Sevierville, Tenn., Charles Lee Irby, Lawndale, N.C., and Hubert A. Stewart Jr., Dandridge, Tenn.; one sister, Georgia Ellen Lovegrove, Bristol, Tennessee; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be held Wednesday in Shelby, N.C.

Wilma Trent Boyd, 68, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in Wexford House, Kingsport.
She was a native of Big Stone Gap and had lived most of her life in Bristol, Tennessee.
She was a retired employee of Raytheon and the widow of John R. Boyd.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Denise Boyd Curtis, Bristol, Tennessee, Connie Boyd Hurd, Kingsport, and Mary Boyd Houser, Blountville; three sisters, Marie Potter, Alma Tolley and Della Estep; two brothers, Paul Trent and Marvin Trent; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Smith Grubb, 84, of 182 Crossing Creek, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Bristol, Virginia and had lived in New York City for 38 years, where she was manager for Woolworth's Cafeteria in Times Square for 28 years, returning to the Bristol area in 1992.
Survivors include her husband, Herschel E. Grubb; two stepdaughters, Betty Musselwhite, Kemp, Texas, and Patricia Mitchell, Mansfield, Pa.; four stepsons, Ken Grubb, Tenafly, N.J., Phillip Grubb, Rock Hill, S.C., Ronald Grubb, Middletown, N.J., and Mark Grubb, Bristol, Virginia; 14 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

James G. Jessee
WISE -- James Gilmer "Gill" Jessee, 87, of Route 1, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Heritage Hall, Big Stone Gap.
He was a lifelong resident of Wise County, Va., a retired coal mine operator and was a farmer.
He attended First Church of God, Wise, and was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Mary Frampton Jessee.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mary E. Collins and Mrs. Agnes L. Hunsaker, both of Wise, and Mrs. Doris A. Baker, Kingsport; five sons, James G. Jessee Jr., Bristol, Virginia, William E. Jessee, Oklahoma City, Okla., Wayland M. Jessee and Harrison C. Jessee, both of Wise, and Charles V. "Doc" Jessee, Hillsville; one brother, Dewey E. Jessee, Raleigh, N.C.; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
