OAKWOOD, Va. -- Charles Adam Clayburne, 87, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native of Buchanan County. He was a retired coal operator, and minister to and a member of Little Garden Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Lois Reeves Clayburne; six daughters, Mrs. Bob (Matrel) Davies, Pickens, S.C., Mrs. Peggy Condit, Bluefield, W.Va., Mrs. Brownie (Hattie) Hayes, Viewtown, Va., Mrs. Jerry (Joyce) Jude, Bluefield, Va., Mrs. Mike (Dorothy) Ennis, McComb, Miss., Mrs. Coy (Charlotte) Richardson, Cedar Bluff; four sons, Charles "Bud" Clayburne, Deerfield, Va., Larry Clayburne, Millboro Springs, Va., Johnny Clayburne and Donald Clayburne, all of Oakwood, Va.; one sister, Mrs. Beatrice Hamback, Manassas, Va.; three brothers, Ezra Clayburne, Manassas, Paul Clayburne, Mt. Vernon, Ohio, and Buford Clayburne, Bristow, Va.; 36 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Allen B. Clifton
Allen B. Clifton, 66, of Bristol, Virginia, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tennessee.
He was a retired tool and die maker having worked in Ohio and Michigan.
He was a Tech. Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force and a veteran of the Korean War.
He was a native of Smyth, Ky. and was formerly of Lee County. He had lived in Bristol for 11 years.
He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Jonesville, Va.
Survivors include his mother, Geneva Clifton, Bristol, Virginia; one son, Allen L. Clifton, Mentor, Ohio; one daughter, Alana McMurry, Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; three brothers, J.B. Clifton, Anderson, S.C., Gary Clifton, Valrico, Fla., and Doug Clifton, Leesville, S.C.; one sister, Betty Tritt, Bristol, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert H. Duty
LEBANON -- Robert Henry "Bud" Duty, 47, of the Hansonville Community, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Russell County and was a 20 year employee of Jewell Coal and Coke.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Loretta Powers Duty; one daughter, Joy Lynn Rasnake, Lebanon; one son, Robert Henry Duty III, Lebanon; his mother, Mrs. Geraldine R. Nunley, Lebanon; three sisters, Nancy Ellen Statzer, Delores Jean Riggs, both of Lebanon, Janice Christine Jones, Midlothian, Va.; two brothers, James Darrell Duty, Thomas Jefferson Duty, both of Lebanon; and several nieces and nephews.

Donald H. Galloway
Donald H. Galloway, 71, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Jellico, Tenn., and had lived most of his life in Bristol.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, during which time he served aboard the U.S.S. Bonhomme Richard aircraft carrier with the 3rd Fleet.
He was a retired agent with Allstate Insurance Company and was co-owner of Dove Radiator Shop.
He was a member of Anderson Street United Methodist Church, where he had served as a Trustee, chairman of the Administrative Board, and a Sunday school teacher.
He was a member of King Masonic Lodge No. 461 and the Jericho Shrine Temple.
He was also a member of the Bristol Shrine Club and served as Chairman of the Crippled Children's Christmas Party and was very active in the annual Crippled Children's Paper Sale.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Miller Galloway; one daughter, Mrs. Joe (Donna G.) Camper, Bristol, Tennessee; one son, George H. Galloway, Bristol, Tennessee; one sister, Carolyn Frye, Bristol, Tennessee; one brother, Robert Galloway, Nashville; and one granddaughter.

Francis C. Hayes
ABINGDON -- Francis Cole Hayes, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Wisconsin, a former resident of New Jersey, and had lived in Abingdon for the past 27 years. He was a retired engineer with Hoke, Inc., and was a member of the Abingdon Kiwanis Club. He was also a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Highlands and was an avid golfer.
Survivors include his wife, Florence Hayes; one son, Cole Hayes, Huntington, N.Y.; one daughter, Aimee Hayes Bakken, Seattle, Wash.; one brother, Albert M. Hayes, Chicago, Ill.; and four granddaughters.

Franklin D. Haynes
SALTVILLE -- Franklin Delano Haynes, 63, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, at his home.
Survivors include two sons, Johnny Haynes and Frankie Haynes, both of Lancaster, Pa.; two sisters, Eula Lee Orr, and Nila Grey Webb, both of Chilhowie; one brother, Charles E. Haynes, Chilhowie; one step-daughter, Bevery Darnell, Saltville; and several nieces and nephews.

Martha C. Hughes
Mrs. Haskel (Martha) Crumley Hughes, 85, of Bristol, Virginia died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of the Weaver Pike Community, Bluff City.
She was a former employee of Massengill's for ten years as a secretary and had worked 20 years for Gray's Dairy.
She was the widow of Haskel Hughes and was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Mary Ellen Hughes, Columbus, Ohio; one son, the Rev. Robert Thaddeus Hughes, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Mary Crumley Roof, Greenwood, S.C.; one brother, the Rev. James R. Crumley Jr., Leesville, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

RICHLANDS -- James S. "Jim" Jackson, 66, of East Second St., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Russell County and had lived in the Richlands area most of his life. He was a self employed carpenter and truck driver.
He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne and was a veteran of the Korean War.

MOUNTAIN CITY -- James Art Lowe, 68, of 271 Corner Road, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in
Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a native of Welch, W.Va., and was a salesman for 45 years for Flavorich Dairies, Welch.
He attended the Central Baptist Church, Mountain City.
Survivors include his wife, Lory Jackie Fenner Lowe; one daughter, Patty Lowe McKinney, Mountain City; two sons, James R. Lowe, Morganton, N.C.; and Art C. Lowe, Bristol, Tennessee; one brother, Buck Lowe, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one sister, Ruth Corder, Oakland, Md.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
