BIG STONE GAP -- Connie Lee Moore, 37, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in Wellmont Health Care, Kingsport.
She formerly worked at a sewing factory as a seamstress.
She was a lifelong resident of the area.
Survivors include two sons, Juwan Moore and Brandon Moore, both of Coeburn; her mother, Rosemond Moore, Big Stone Gap; four sisters, Margaret Smith, Big Stone Gap, Cathy Moore and Sandra Gareffa, both of Appalachia, and Sharon Vaughn, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, is in charge.

Alma J. Moorhead

SUGAR GROVE, Va. -- Alma "Medley" June Moorhead, 58, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Hartford Memorial Hospital, Havre de Grace, Md.
She was a native of Sugar Grove, and worked as a loan officer for Harco Federal Credit Union, Bel Air, Md.
Survivors include her husband, James R. Moorhead; three sons, Michael W. McMillion, Galax, John J. Moorhead, Aberdeen, Md., and James D. Moorhead, Churchville, Md.; three daughters, Mary Lee Culbreth, Locust Grove, Ga., Janie Heckman, Colora, and Kimberley L. Boone, Delta, Pa.; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild; two brothers, James R. Medley, Kingsville, Md., and William E. Medley Sr., Bel Air, Md.; six sisters, Joyce G. Tuggle, Gainesville, Texas, Ivy S. Smith, Bland, Va., Eva Louise Mills and Phyllis D. Myers, both of Rural Retreat, Nicky Bonner, Elkton, Md. and Lois F. Freeman, Marion.
Funeral services will be held Thursday in Aberdeen, Md.

Hufford Rife

PILGRIM KNOB, Va. -- Hufford Rife, 74, of the Hale Creek section of Buchanan County, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a native of Buchanan County, and a retired coal miner, having last worked for Pittston Coal Company. He was also a member of United Mine Workers of America.
He was a member of Jesus Outreach Church and was of the Holiness faith.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in World War II, and was the recipient of a Purple Heart.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Cassie Fuller Rife; one daughter, Mrs. David (Christine) Hobbs, Whitewood, Va.; four sons, Carlos Lee Rife, Big Stone Gap, the Rev. Fred A. Rife, Big Rock, Va., Michael Rife, Vance, Ala., and David Rife, Branson, Mo.; four sisters, Marie Griffith, Columbus, Ohio, Cloie Payne, Raleigh, N.C., Mrs. Harold (Lorine) Deel, Vansant, and Mrs. Sanford (Geneva) Blankenship, Manassas, Va.; two brothers, Leonard Rife, Bastain, Va., and Fred Rife Jr., Pilgrim Knob; and eight grandchildren.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Grundy, is in charge.

Rowena S. Roberts

Mrs. Rowena Shull "Memmie" Roberts, 81, of 321 Oak Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was the widow of Robert D. Roberts.
She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, Bristol, Tennessee.
Survivors include one son, Bobby G. Roberts, Bristol, Tennessee; one sister, Mattie Shull Hughes, Johnson City; one grandson, David A. Roberts, Bristol, Tennessee; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Luther R. Rose

ROWE, Va. -- The Rev. Luther Reece Rose, 70, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1997, in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital.
He was a native of Tazewell County and a self-employed painter.
He was a minister of the Pentecostal faith and attended Garden Free Holiness Church.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Julia Mae Helton Rose.
Survivors include his wife, Elsie Justice Rose; four sons, Roger D. Rose, Rowe, the Rev. Ronald Rose, Linden, Va., Reavis Rose, Hickory, N.C., and Paul Wilson, Greendale, Va.; one sister, Catherine Lane, Bealeton, Va.; four step-daughters, Peggy Meadows, Mavisdale, Va., Linda Justice and Loretta Gray, Oakwood, Va., and Carolyn Baldwin, Lebanon; eight step-sons, Roger Justice, Raven, Jerry Justice, Mavisdale, Larry Justice and Jimmy Justice, Oakwood, Harley Justice, Taylorsville, N.C., Ricky Justice, David Justice and Darryl Justice, Little Prater, Va.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

Jerry R. Sink

MARION -- Jerry Robert Sink, 47, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was of the Baptist faith and was a beloved member of the W.W. Scott Senior Center.
Survivors include one daughter, Tresila S. Lambert, Austinville, Va.; one son, Brandon Sink, Bland; one sister, Kathy Harner, Bland; and one brother, Gary Sink, Bland.

Leonard Sluss

CLINTWOOD -- Leonard Sluss, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
He was a well known lifelong resident of Dickenson County.
He was a member and deacon of the Flemingtown Church for the past 30 years.
He worked in the coal industry for 42 years and was a member of Local Union No. 1374.
Survivors include his wife, Emma E. Sluss; one son, Joe Glenn Sluss, Clintwood; one daughter, Carol Trivitt, San Antonio, Texas; five sisters, Anceline Dutton, Springfield, Mo., Cora Ferrell, Bluefield, W.Va., Adna Sluss, Bristol, Tennessee, Hazel Sluss and Dorothy Mullins, both of Clintwood; one brother, Joseph Sluss, Willoughby, Ohio; one grandson; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
Mullins Funeral Home is in charge.

Bernard K. Sproles

Bernard K. Sproles, 83, of 7725 Rich Valley Road, Bristol, Va., died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in National Health Care.
He was retired from Morrison Molded Fiberglass Company.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II.
He was past District Deputy Grand Master of the Masonic Lodge of Virginia; a member of Valley Lodge No. 93 and past patron of Bellwash No. 65 Order of the Eastern Star.
He was a member of McIver Memorial Presbyterian Church having served as an elder, Sunday school teacher and in the church choir. He was also past superintendent of Sunday school and a layreader.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth Fleenor Sproles; five nieces, Kent Leathers, Mona Dose, LuAnn Johnson, Rebecca Herrity and Linda Sproles Orr; four nephews, Fred Barr, Ken Fleenor, Joe Fleenor and Andy Fleenor.

Artemus Stilwell

CEDAR BLUFF -- Artemus Stilwell, 86, of the Baptist Valley section, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native of Buchanan County and was a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA Local No. 7237.
He was a member of Fork Ridge House of Prayer.
Survivors include his wife, Rosie Viola Short Stilwell; two sons, Hobert Stilwell, North Tazewell, and Albert Stilwell, Cedar Bluff; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Faye) Davis, Cedar Bluff; four sisters, Mrs. T.H. (Mamie) Messick, Mrs. Rosie Davis and Miss Oma Osborne, all of Raven, and Mrs. Cecil (Maggie) Breedlove, Adria, Va.; ten grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Gladys Stone

WEBER CITY -- Gladys E. Necessary Stone, 90, died Monday, Jan. 12, 1998, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Scott County and a housewife.
She was of the Pentecostal faith and attended Faith Bible Tabernacle Church, Hiltons, Va.
Survivors include her husband, James Emmitt Stone; one foster sister, Anna Mae Shupe, Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.
