Gerald Dison
CLEVELAND -- Gerald "Honey" Dison, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 1998, in Lebanon, Va.
He was a native of Spearsville, La., and a former resident of Junction City, La.
He was a brakeman for E&W Railroad for ten years and a member of United Pentecostal Church, Lebanon.
Survivors include his wife, Alice McCoy Dison; one daughter, Pam Davis, Cleveland, Va.; two sons, Michael "Scooter" Dison, El Dorado, Ariz., and Jerry Dison, Spearsville, La.; his mother, Ida Mae Dison, Spearsville; four brothers, Robert Dale Dison, Doyline, La., Alvin Thomas Dison, Bearden, Ariz., Billy Wayne Dison, Spearsville, Kenneth Joe Dison, Ashdown, Ariz.; one sister, Ruth Ward, Provencal, La.; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Jan. 10, 1998, in Junction City, arranged by Bailey Funeral Home, with burial in Spearsville.
Russell County Funeral Home, Lebanon, was in charge of local arrangements.
Virgie H. Fletcher
VANSANT -- Mrs. Virgie Hess Fletcher, 83, of the Fletcher Ridge section, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in a Bristol, Tennessee hospital.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of Fletcher Ridge Primitive Baptist Church.
She was the widow of Everett Fletcher.
Survivors include seven daughters, Lona Fay Ball, Christine Presley and Diane Compton, all of Davenport, Shelvia Jean Stacy, Abingdon, Barbara Fletcher Cook and Gaynell Cox, both of Vansant, and Mildred Sue Evans, Aberdeen, Md.; five sons, Monroe Fletcher and Larry Fletcher, both of Vansant, Delmer Fletcher, James Fletcher and Bobby Fletcher, all of Abingdon; four sisters, Mabel Cook and Deladis VanDyke, both of Vansant, Tora Arms and Thelma Hess, both of Rowe; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert D. Gentry
WISE -- Robert Dee Gentry, 76, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
He was a member of Duncan Gap Freewill Baptist Church, a retired coal miner, a former employee of Pardee Coal Company and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the rank of Sgt.
Survivors include his wife, Oma Stanley Gentry; five daughters, Nicole Gentry, of the home, Pansy Lynn Bevins, Sherry R. Robinson and Jennifer (Sandy) Mullins, both of Wise, and Teresa Karen Yates, Moulton, Ala.; four sons, Gail R. Gentry, Franklin K. Gentry, Ronnie W. Gentry and Timothy D. Gentry, all of Wise; one sister, Christine Hugi, Grace Valley, Calif.; two brothers, Bill Gentry, Ohio, and Sonny Boy Gentry, Pound; 23 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Martha C. Hughes
Mrs. Haskel (Martha) Crumley Hughes, 85, of Bristol, Virginia died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in Wellmont Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of the Weaver Pike Community, Bluff City.
She was a former employee of Massengill's for ten years as a secretary and had worked 20 years for Gray's Dairy.
She was the widow of Haskel Hughes and was a member of Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dr. Mary Ellen Hughes, Columbus, Ohio; one son, the Rev. Robert Thaddeus Hughes, Winchester, Va.; one sister, Mary Crumley Roof, Greenwood, S.C.; one brother, the Rev. James R. Crumley Jr., Leesville, S.C.; and three grandchildren.

Phyllis C. Keister
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -- Phyllis "Peggy" C. Keister, of 109 King Mountain Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998 at her home.
She came to the Charlottesville area in 1965 as a Virginia National Bank employee in the Agri-business Department. She continued her association with what is now NationsBank until her retirement in 1997.
Survivors include one sister, Emmy K. Dennison, Charlottesville; one niece, Diane K. Dennison, Lebanon; and one nephew, Ned Dennison.

Pauline Kilbourne
BIG STONE GAP -- Pauline Rebecca Bowman Kilbourne, 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998.
She was a lifelong resident of Appalachia and Big Stone Gap and was the widow of Teddy E. Kilbourne.
She was educated at Appalachia High School, studied two years at Clinch Valley College and was a mother, homemaker and community leader.
She was Appalachia Women's Club Woman of the year in 1971 and was president of the club that year.
She was a member of Appalachia United Methodist Church and served as WSC president in 1971-72, was chairwoman of Women's Republican Club and active as a town registrar.
She was selected to appear in the 1972 edition of Personalities of the South in recognition of past achievements, outstanding abilities and service to the community.
Later in life she became a breeder of thoroughbred horses until she was almost 80 years old.
Survivors include one son, Ronald Rudolph Kilbourne, Dumfries, Va.; one daughter, Teddy Lou Kilbourne Blann, Alexandria, Va., and Nashville; one brother, Howard "Shug" Bowman, Appalachia; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; four step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

Jimmy Long
ABINGDON -- Jimmy Long, 69, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, attended Valley View Baptist Church and was a carpenter.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Effie P. Long; one son, John S. Long, Bristol, Tennessee; one stepson, Harold Mullins, Pineville, W.Va.; one stepdaughter, Magelene Thomas, Princeton, W.Va.; six brothers, Ralph Long, Mack Long, Gene Long, Marvin Long and Kenneth M. Long, all of Abingdon, and Lonnie Long, Piney Flats; three sisters, Katherine Goodson and Garnett Bott, both of Bristol, Virginia, and Violet Cunningham, Abingdon; two grandchildren; 24 step-grandchildren; and 18 nieces and nephews.

Patsy C. Pullon
Patsy Carol Pullon, 65, of 5129 Wilson Circle, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in Northside Hospital,
Johnson City.
She was a native of Bristol, Virginia and had lived in West Carrollton, Ohio, and Jacksonville, Fla., before moving back to the Bristol, Virginia area in 1987.
She was a retired secretary for Grandview Hospital, Dayton, Ohio, of the Baptist faith and the widow of Charles "Ed" Pullon.
Survivors include one daughter, DeeDee Griffith, Kingsport; two sisters, Jane Shankle and Linda VanDyke, both of Bristol, Virginia; one brother, Joe Necessary, Bristol, Virginia; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Angeta M. Stanley
HAYSI -- Angeta M. Stanley, 70, of Route 1, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native of Dickenson County, the widow of Willard Rex Stanley and was of the Holiness faith.
Survivors include six sons, Roy Stanley and Gene Stanley, both of Castlewood, Dean Stanley, Donnie Stanley and Ronnie Stanley, all of Haysi, and Rex Paul Stanley, Lincolnton, N.C.; two daughters, Carolyn Haynes Sanders, Elkhorn City, Ky., and Brenda Rife, Richlands; her mother, Julia Willis Mullins, Christiansburg; two brothers, Curtis Ray Mullins, Richmond, and Dennis Wayne Mullins, Christiansburg; two sisters, Faye Stanley, Haysi, and Sandra Kay Stanley Staunton; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Virgil Tizen
OMAHA, Ark. -- Virgil "Pete" Tizen, 82, formerly of 12400 Cricket Cutoff, formerly of Richlands, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998, in a Branson, Mo., hospital.
He was a native of Richlands and was a 1933 graduate of Richlands High School. He was a member of the Richlands Lodge No. 318 AF&AM and was of the Protestant faith. He was a retired restaurateur in Ocala, Fla., and was a former railroad employee and farmer. He was a coal operator, co-owner of Tizen Coal Company of Buchanan County in Virginia and Kentucky.
He moved to Omaha, Ark., 22 years ago, where he lived in the Ozark Mountains and raised and sold cattle until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Thelma Augusta Gentry Tizen; two daughters, Mrs. Norma McCann, Parma, Ohio and Mrs. Brenda Buchner, Nixa, Mo.; two sons, Virgil Tizen Jr., Ozark, Mo., and Danny Tizen, Palm Bay, Fla.; one brother, John Tizen, Claypool Hill; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Cecil L. Vest
Cecil L. Vest, 74, of 411 Edmond Street, Bristol, Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House.
He retired from the Air Force in March, 1967, as a Staff Sgt. ending two decades of military service. During his 20 years in the Army and Air Force, he received the European, African, Middle Eastern Campaign Medals with four Bronze Stars, the American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, International Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal.
He served in the Army in World War II under George S. Patton and fought in battles of Northern France, the Rhineland, the Battle of the Bulge and the Battle for Central Europe.
He was a member of Shelby Masonic Lodge 162, Bristol, Virginia, the Royal Arch Masons of Virginia, and is a thirty-second degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in the Savannah (Ga.) Consistory.
He attended Fellowship Chapel Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Leonard Vest; two daughters, Ms. Judith McCrary Vest and Mrs. Jean L. Newman, both of Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Ms. Stella Vest, Gray, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
