LEBANON -- Lula J. Chafin, 93, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a resident of Mountainview Retirement Home and was the last member of her family.
Survivors include a few cousins.

PENNINGTON GAP -- Thomas Bruce "Tom" Coomer, 44, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, a former employee of Dotson Chevrolet, Big Stone Gap, and was self-employed.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Coomer; three daughters, Jessica Coomer, Jelisa Coomer, Jatesia Coomer, all of the home; two brothers, Ken Coomer, Big Stone Gap, and Greg Coomer, Maryville, Tenn.; two sisters, Sally Morrison, Maryville, Tenn., and Helen Roberts, Pennington Gap.

Clifford Freeman
Clifford "Ped" Freeman, 89, of Bristol, Virginia, died Thursday, Jan 15, 1998, in Bristol Nursing Home.
He was a native of Caldwell County, N.C., had lived in Bristol most of his life and was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Beatrice Mumpower Freeman.
He was a retired employee of Furst-McNess Company, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 40, Bristol, Va.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Bill (Myrtle) Shearin, Bristol, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.

James Graybeal
MOUNTAIN HOME -- The Rev. James "Ed" Graybeal, 96, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He was a native of Ashe County, N.C., and had lived in Sullivan County most of his life.
He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War I.
He was a Freewill Baptist minister and a member of Cedar Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Graybeal; four daughters, Nellie Campbell, Elizabethton, Charlotte Bowers and Mildred Guy, both of Bristol, Tennessee, and Sue Camper, Piney Flats; six sons, William Graybeal and Herman Graybeal, both of Bluff City, Ervin Graybeal, Cleveland, Ohio, Martin Graybeal, Elizabethton, Roger Graybeal,
Johnson City, and Wayne Graybeal, Bristol, Tennessee; one sister, Fannie Fritz, Bristol, Tennessee; two brothers, Luther Graybeal, Bristol, Tennessee, and Henderson Graybeal, Bluff City; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

PINEY FLATS -- Emma Lou Hedrick, 97, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in Greystone Healthcare Center, Blountville.
She was a native of Bland County, Va., and had lived in Bristol for the past 55 years.
She was the widow of Samuel C. Hedrick and was a member of First Baptist Church of Wytheville, Va.
Survivors include two daughters, Bernice Newman, Baltimore, and Betty Makris, Piney Flats; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ronnie Hounshell
MARION -- Ronnie "Bird" Hounshell, 57, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 1998, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
He was a local businessman in Smyth County for many years.
Survivors include one daughter, Paige McGhee, Radford; his mother, Pauline L. Hounshell, Marion; and one brother, Jerry Hounshell, Marion.

Emma R. Kern
GATE CITY -- Emma Rhoton Kern, 89, of 116 Pine Street, formerly of Clinchport and Weber City, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 1998, in Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation.
She was a native of Scott County, a former school teacher with the Scott County School System, and she and her first husband operated Rhoton's General Store, Clinchport, for many years.
She was of the Protestant faith and was the widow of her first husband, Arthur M. Rhoton, and her second husband, Robert L. Kern.
Survivors include one daughter, Betty Rhoton, Gate City; one sister, Georgia Buchanan, Joplin, Mo.; one granddaughter, Betsy Ford France, Church Hill; one great-granddaughter; one great-grandson; one great-great-granddaughter; and one great-great-grandson.

Paulanna W. Kittle
COEBURN -- Paulanna "Pauline" Whited Kittle, 74, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.
She was a native of Coeburn and had lived in Flat Rock, Mich., for 36 years.
Survivors include two daughters, Pamela Janisse, Mancelona, Mich., and Donna Waite, Flat Rock; one stepson, Tom Kittle; two stepdaughters, Dinah Kittle and Karen Kittle; two brothers, Luther Whited and Charles Whited; two sisters, Faye
Foster and Wilma Albain; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several step-grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial will be held in Flat Rock.

ORLANDO, Fla. -- James H. McCray, 68, of Player Circle, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998.
He was a native of Banner, Va., was of the Protestant faith and was a retired postal clerk.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War and Vietname War.
Survivors include one son, Garry, Bristol, Virginia; two brothers, Charles, Orlando, and Garnett, Bellview, Fla.; three sisters, Hassie Webb, Abingdon, Pauline Jackson, Saltville, and Edith Sanders, Melbourne, Fla.; and one granddaughter.
There will be no services.

Peter Milton "Pete" Reasor, 77, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998.
He was a native of Lee County and established and operated Reasor and Reasor Equipment Company, Bristol, Virginia, for 35 years before his retirement.
He was well known in the Tri-State area, was a veteran of World War II serving in the South Pacific, a member of VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 and a member of Disabled American Veterans.
He was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his wife, Mary J. Reasor.
Survivors include three sisters, Velma Skeens, Frankfort, Ky., Bernice Pope, Culston, Ky., and Lorene Hill, Nashville; four brothers, Curtis Reasor, Lexington, Ky., John D. Reasor, Kingsport, Robert Eugene Reasor,
Johnson City, and Ralph Reasor, Frankfort, Ky.; and several nieces and nephews.
