Myrtle L. Riley

Mrs. Myrtle Lee Riley, 78, of 523 Carolina Avenue, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at the home of her daughter.
She was a native of Carbo, Va., had lived in the Bristol area all of her life, was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of Jake Hicks Riley Jr.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Bill (Kathy) Wyatt and Mrs. Arthur (Emily) Roark, both of Bristol, Tennessee, and Patsy Howell, Piney Flats; three sons, Wayne Riley, Bristol, Tennessee, Timothy Riley, Abingdon, and Tom Riley, Athens, Tenn.; two sisters, Hazel D. Sutherland, Lebanon, and Beulah Vance, Bristol, Tennessee; three brothers, Claude D. Duncan, Tazewell, Guy F. Duncan, Trammel, Va., and Carroll G. Duncan, Cleveland, Va.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Raleigh Roberts

ABINGDON -- Raleigh Roberts, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Virginia and had lived in Lincoln, Ky., for 40 years before moving back to Abingdon in 1990.
He was a retired farmer and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Virginia Hyler Roberts; one daughter, Shirlene Roberts, Abingdon; one brother, Lacy Roberts, Bristol, Tennessee; and one sister, Opal Roberts, Abingdon.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Kenzie C. Taylor

SALTVILLE -- Kenzie Clayton Taylor, 68, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Cambridge House, Bristol, Tenn.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and attended River Bend Union Church.
Survivors include four brothers, Clyde Taylor, Meadowview, Kyle Taylor and Stuart Taylor, both of Abingdon, and Glen Taylor, Saltville;. two sisters, Ocie Taylor and Pearl Stallard, both of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Frankie J. Vanover

CLINTWOOD -- Frankie Jane Vanover, 60, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church, and prior to her illness was employed as a nurse for Dr. Patricia H. Vanover.
Survivors include her husband, Lynn Vanover ; three sons, Phillip Vanover, Mark Vanover and David Vanover, all of Clintwood; one brother, Ralph Vanover, Clintwood; one sister, Donna DeBoard, Waldord, Md.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home, Clintwood, is in charge.

Billy W. Venable

SALTVILLE -- Mr. Billy Wayne Venable, 65, died Friday, Jan. 16, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
Survivors include one sister, Elma Wix, Chilhowie; and several nieces and nephews.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Tom J. Arnder

WISE -- Tom Junior Arnder, 76, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, at his home.
He was of the Protestant faith and was a retired painter for Paramount Coal Company.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie Peak Arnder; one daughter, Ruby Richardson, Wise; one son, Ken Arnder, Cleveland, Ohio; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, is in charge.

Fred C. Easterling

KINGSPORT -- Fred C. Easterling, 81, died Monday, Jan. 19, 1998, in James H. Quillen Veterans Administration Medical Center.
He was a native of Norton, had lived most of his life in Kingsport and was retired from Looney Chevrolet.
He was a member of Fort Robinson Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of American Legion, DAV and VFW and was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Owens Easterling.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Farmer Easterling; four sons, Fred Easterling Jr., Fredrick, Md., Bill Farmer, Rick Farmer and Roger Farmer, all of Kingsport; three sisters, Hester Adams, Lebanon, Thelma Bruydowski, Harrisburhg, Pa., and Christina Easterling, Norton; two brothers, Robert Easterling, Weber City, and James H. "Jay" Easterling, Johnson City; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport, is in charge.

Kathleen H. Hardin

ELIZABETHTON -- Kathleen Hambrick Hardin, 77, formerly of 924 Walker Street, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Life Care Center, Elizabethton.
She was a native of Bristol, Tennessee, was the widow of her first husband, William T. Hambrick, and her second husband, Henry Hardin.
She was a member of Elizabethton First Free Will Baptist Church, a homemaker, and a retired restaurant employee.
Survivors include three daughters, Patsy Street, Bernice Guinn and Maxine Vines, all of Elizabethton; four sons, William Hambrick, Carl Hambrick and R.L. Hambrick, all of Elizabethton, and Elwood Hambrick, Drexel, N.C.; three brothers, Earl Vestal, Bluff City, Joe Vestal, Bristol, Virginia, and Charlie Vestal, Abingdon; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.
Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, Elizabethton, is in charge.

Hazel M. May

HURLEY -- Hazel M. Dotson May, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998, in Buchanan General Hospital.
She was a native of Buchanan County, a lifelong resident of Hurley, a member of Kelsa Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Edward May; one daughter, Joann Hess, Hurley; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge.

Roy R. Ogle

Roy Ray Ogle, 76, of Bristol, Virginia, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998.
He was a native of the Sugarlands, near Gatlinburg, Tenn., a graduate of Pi Beta Phi School, Gatlinburg, and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, before attending the University of Tennessee, graduating in 1954. He attended Purdue University School of Engineering and did graduate work at East Tennessee State University, the University of California, Berkeley, and VPI.
He had a long career in industrial training, education and personnel relations, was a civilian instructor for the Air Force in the Philippines during the Korean War and taught at the Pittman Center High School, Sevier County, where he was a basketball coach, and at Washington County Virginia Vocational School.
He was a personnel officer at Detrex Universal Moulding and Raytheon Corporation and a consultant for the Agency for International Development in projects to improve industrial training in Jamaica.
For most of his career, he was Apprenticeship Supervisor for Southwest Virginia for the Virginia Department of Labor and Industry, retiring in 1987.
He was a long-time member of the Church of Christ, having attended both the State Street and East Bristol congregations and formerly served as an elder of the State Street congregation.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen Ruth Schultz Ogle; one daughter, Gail Susan Ogle, Charlottesville; three sons, Roy C. Ogle, Charlottesville, Randall B. Ogle, Harriman, Tenn., and Burton R. Ogle, Richmond; six sisters, Isophine Lane, Emily Case and Eva Webb, all of Sevier County, and Leona Schlepper, Betty Stokes and Rose Fehrenback, Los Angeles, Calif.; two granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday in Pittman Center, Tenn.
Atchley Funeral Home, Sevierville, Tenn., is in charge.
