She was the daughter of the late Charles Charner and Gay Lucy Powers; and is survived by her caregivers, Virginia Nash, her niece and Eva Henley; a devoted niece and great-niece, Brenda Brown and Kelley Brown-Lutz; a nephew, great-nieces and great-nephew and many cousins. PROFFITT
Lillian I. Proffitt, 66, died March 25, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward R. Proffitt Sr.; and son, Edward R. Proffitt Jr. She is survived by three daughters, Myrna Janzen, Belinda Ware and Tiffany Allen; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Sheila Batchelor; and three brothers, Herbert, Steve and Gordon Drumheller. Visitation at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., on Thursday, March 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. Graveside services at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Saturday, March 30 at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the American Kidney Foundation.

PULLIAM
Rev. Rodney B. Pulliam, 38, of Frederick, Md. and three sons, Rodney II, 10, Jordan, 8, and Matthew, 6, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 as a result of an automobile accident in Frederick, Md. Services will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at First Missionary Baptist Church, 899 Swallowtail Drive in Frederick, Md. and 11 a.m. Friday, March 29 at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 19068 Bethlehem Church Road in Triangle, Va. The bodies may be viewed from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Friday at Star of Bethlehem. Mr. Pulliam is survived by his wife, Tammie; his parents, Minnie Hester and MacDaniel Pulliam, both of Petersburg, Va.; three brothers, MacDaniel Jr., Glen and Michael Pulliam, of Petersburg, Va. Besides their mother and paternal grandparents, the sons are also survived by their maternal grandmother, Alice Armstead; and their maternal great-grandmother, Mary Ennis, both of Fredericksburg, Va. ROBERTSON
Carlen Hughes Robertson, age 50, of Doswell, Va., died March 25, 2002. She is survived by her loving husband of 15 years, Paul Robertson; two stepdaughters, Stephanie and Michelle Robertson; one grandchild, Shirley Vandermark; brother, David Hughes; two sisters, Diane Hughes Dickerson and husband, John Wayne Dickerson and Christina Hughes Novak; five nephews and a niece; and a devoted cousin, Artie Minter. Preceded in death by her parents, Robert Cecil and Jean Minter Hughes; brother, Ronnie Hughes; and one nephew, Steven Dickerson. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8:30 p.m. and Thursday until service time at the West Chapel of the Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. SHUTT
Baxter Glenn Shutt Jr. of Brookneal, Va., formerly of Richmond, died Monday, March 25, 2002. He was the son of the late Baxter G. Shutt Sr. and Gladys Brittle Shutt. He is survived by his wife, Marie Heady Shutt; four children, 12 grandchildren, one brother and one sister. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Brookneal Baptist Church. SLATER
Patrick W. Slater, 29, of Richmond, died suddenly Monday, March 25, 2002. He is survived by his parents, Donald W. and Marion-Anne Slater; two grandmothers, Ruth Taylor Kidd and Jacqueline E. Kidd; and three special friends, Brian DelCorso, Charles Lambert and Lowell W. Lantz. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with a Rosary at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart. SMITH
Lawrence Edward Smith, age 77, of Sandston, formerly of Asheville, N.C., passed away Monday, March 25, 2002. Survivors include his son, Ronnie Smith; his two daughters, Donna Reynolds and Kathy Healey; and his five grandchildren, Dorothy, Nicholas and Dustin Greene, Mark and Paul Healey. Mr. Smith was a member of Oak Hall Baptist Church and the Sandston Moose Lodge, and was retired from the American Tobacco Company after 35 years of service. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 South Laburnum Ave., where services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment Washington Memorial Park. SMITH
Ronald Eugene Smith, 57, passed away at his home and went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 23, 2002. A native of Ohio, he lived in Newport News for the past year. He was a graduate of Otterbein College and then served a short time in the Air Force. Ron was a talented and accomplished musician, and music was his life. He served as the Music Minister for Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Richmond for nine years before moving to Newport News. For the past year, he has served as the Music Minister for St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church, Newport News. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Cleora Smith. He is survived by brother, Rodney J. Smith and his wife, Linda of Findlay, Ohio; nephew, Ryan Smith; niece, Shelley R. Smith and her husband, Jeremy; great-nephew, Anthony Smith; his closest friends, Anne Witte of Richmond and Frances Pride of Hampton; and his loving companion, "HoBo." The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church with a Mass of the Resurrection to be celebrated at 7 p.m. by the Rev. Lloyd Stephenson and Frances F. Pride, Lay Presider. The interment will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Ron requested that memorials be sent to St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church Music Ministry, P.O. STANLEY
Thomas E. (Tommy) Stanley Jr., 55, of Ashland, died March 24, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Sandy Stanley; children, Becky Sewell and her husband, Richard, Eddie Stanley and his wife, Kim, Tracy Brown and her husband, Bob; stepchildren, Andy and Wendy Shockley; his parents, Tom and Lucy Stanley; brothers and sister, William M. (Bootsie) Stanley and his wife, Laura, Burnlie S. Montaigne and her husband, John, H. Lee Stanley and his wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Clay, Amanda, Madison, Katelynn and Olivia. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Ashland. Interment Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery, Beaverdam. Tommy was a well known Dairy Farmer and a prominent Poultry Breeder. He loved all sports, but was especially fond of following NASCAR.

SUTTON
Iretta H. Sutton, better known as "Fuzz" to her family and friends, was born on September 26, 1948 to the late Ollie Howard and Laura H. Ross. She departed this life on March 25, 2002. She was preceded in death by her sister, Eloise Culpepper. She moved to Richmond, Va. at an early age and attended public schools including Maggie L. Walker High School. She had a love for photography. She was an assistant administrator of La'Ross Adult Care Resident for 25 years. She was a very loving and generous person that would do anything to help others. She leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, Walter E. Sutton; five children, Donald, Kelvin, Deborah, Louis and Sabrina; three stepchildren, Angela, Kenneth and Terrance, all of North Carolina; her loving mother, Laura H. Ross; four brothers, Therman, Sherman, Ollie Jr. and Richard Howard; one stepsister, Helen Allen; six grandchildren, two devoted, Ebony, Dionna, Jamarkus, Talitha, Shante and Deontae; three nieces, one devoted, Brenda, Wanda and Laura; three nephews, Keith, Craig and Sherman; two aunts, Eula M. Godwin and Cora Snead of Salma; one uncle, Lafayette Barnes of Richmond; three sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, a host of other relatives and friends, among them four devoted, Trecinda Barnes, Priscilla Smith, Demetris Dobbins and Ann Curtis. Remains rest at the Chiles Funeral Home, 2100 Fairmount Ave. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 1 p.m. from St. Paul's Baptist Church, 2600 E. WAKEFIELD
Mary Menefee Wakefield, 87, of Richmond, died Monday, March 25, 2002. She was a daughter of the late Edgar W. Menefee and Hattie Baker Menefee of Mt. Crawford, Va. She is survived by her husband, Floyd S. (Barney) Wakefield; two sisters, Virginia M. Hartman of Mt. Crawford and Helen M. Wrenn of Yorktown; and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Wakefield was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren S. Menefee and Kieffer B. Menefee. She was a 1937 graduate of the St. Elizabeth's Hospital School of Nursing and served as Past President of the Alumnae Association. Mrs. Wakefield was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ. A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 29 at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave. Interment will be private in Oakwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's United Church of Christ, 503 North Lombardy St., Richmond, Va. 23220 or the American Heart Association.

WEST
Lucy Leake West of Richmond, widow of Hugh Page West, died Monday, March 25, 2002. She is survived by her daughter, Judy West Kidd and son-in-law, Thomas P. Kidd Jr. of Petersburg; her sister, Margaret Coleman Leake of Richmond; and three grandchildren, Thomas P. Kidd III, Edward Walker Kidd and Ellen Rachel Kidd. Mrs. West had been very active in various civic and charitable organizations. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28 in Hollywood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Virginia Home, 1101 Hampton St., Richmond, Va. 23220.

WILLIAMS
Dorothy F. Williams, 83, of Dolphin, Virginia, widow of Robert D. Williams Sr., departed this life March 25, 2002. She is survived by her devoted children, Mildred and Ulmont Ison of Crewe, Janet and C.B. Waller of Alberta and Robbie and Denise Williams of Dolphin; her loving sister, Inez Jackson of Seaford; also, six grandchildren, Rhonda, Hope, Kim, Kawanah, Benji and Randy; nine great-grandchildren, Lauran, Ruric, Macie, Ben, Daniel, Kelly, Becky, Branden and Damian; and several nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, 2002, 2 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home of Lawrenceville. Burial to follow at Crestview Memorial Park, South Hill, Virginia. BALL
Kenneth B. Ball, age 80, of Richmond, died Saturday, February 23, 2002. He was the widower of Mary Ellen Ball, and is survived by his children; daughters, Vickery (Vicky) A. Rust of Richmond, Valerie E. Ball of Elliston, Va.; son, David V. Ball of Midlothian; and one granddaughter; his sister, Ila Mae Cothran of Richmond. Mr. Ball served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a 57 year member of Babcock Lodge No. 322 AF&AM. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4103 Monument Ave. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Interment private. Richard Beam of Chesterfield, died February 22, 2002. Survivors include his wife, Ramona; three children, Charlie, Jesse, and Rachel Beam; his mother, Nadine Walter; one sister, Luzette Honeycutt; and several nieces and nephews. CRAIG
Harriette O. Craig, 77, of Richmond, died Saturday, February 23, 2002. She was the widow of Vincent J. P. Craig and preceded in death by her son, Douglas. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Rountree; six grandchildren, Kevin, Amanda, Andrew, Megan, Parker and Carla; three great-grandsons; and sister, Mary Louise Mapp. Mrs. Craig was a lifelong member of Church of the Epiphany Episcopal. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Church of the Epiphany Episcopal.
