Reda A. Stanton

Mrs. Reda Ann Stanton, 68, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Ewing, Va., had lived in the Bristol area for 47 years, was a housewife and was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of Earl H. Stanton Sr.
Survivors include four daughters, Peggy Stanton Jackson, Newton, N.C., Alice Stanton Graybeal, Blountville, Jo Ann Stanton Bowery and Karen Stanton Morenings, both of Bristol, Tennessee; one son, Earl H. Stanton Jr., Eden, N.C.; one sister, Audrey Springen, Pennington Gap; three brothers, Clinton Littrell, Kingsport, Odell Littrell, Dryden, Va., and Bernard Littrell, Knoxville; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

E.E. Stauber

E.E. "Eb" Stauber, of Bristol, Virginia, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 1998, in NHC of Bristol.
He was a native of Rural Hall, N.C., and had lived in Bristol since 1940. He received a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Advertising from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
He was the founder of Cozy-Dozy, Stauber Direct Sales and Big Ben Stores. He was supportive of various civic, religious and educational organizations.
He was formerly of the Presbyterian faith and was a member of State Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Stauber; one son, Phil Stauber, Bristol, Tennessee; one daughter, Mrs. Steve (Carol) Everhart, Bristol, Virginia; one sister, Margaret Lancaster, Rural Hall, N.C.; five grandchildren, Drew Everhart, Winn Everhart, Stephanie Everhart, Ann Marie Stauber and John Stauber; and several nieces and nephews.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Franklin R. Stewart

MARION -- Franklin Randolph Stewart, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998 at his home.
He was a native of Roosevelt, Okla., and lived during the depression in rural Oklahoma and Colorado.
He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps as a youth and later attended the University of Colorado under the National Youth Administration.
In 1942, he joined the Navy and served as a Lt. j.g. in Naval Intelligence in the Pacific Theater in World War II.
After the war, he returned to the University of Colorado under the G.I. Bill and earned his law degree. He was hired by the Army as an attorney in the Office of military Government, United States in occupied Germany, where he served in Berlin, Wiesbaden and Nuremberg as a prosecuting attorney.
In 1951, he returned to Pueblo, Colo., and practiced law for ten years, also serving in the State Legislature for six years. At the onset of the Kennedy Administration, he joined the Foreign Service of the United States, and served as Director of the United States Agency of International Development Missions in Guatemala and Uruguay. He was sent to Harvard & Tufts University where he earned a master's degree in Latin American Economics. He later served as Director of the Refugee and War Victims Program in Vietnam in 1970 and 1971, then returned to Latin America where he was Director of the Inter-American Center for Export Promotion in Bogota, Colombia.
Following serving in Washington D.C. he retired from the State Department and worked as a consultant in agri-business exports.
He retired with his wife to Marion in 1989 and worked as an attorney, later joining in a law partnership with G.C. Jennings, until ill health forced his retirement.
He was a member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church.
He was active in local community projects and in many organizations which had as their goal "the promotion of a just and equitable society for every citizen."
Survivors include his wife, Betty Blair Stewart; one daughter, Courtney Randolph Stewart, Marion; one son, Blair Franklin Stewart; two brothers, John William Stewart, Lexington, S.C., Maj. Gen. Robert W. Strong, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Mabel Stewart, Palm Bay, Fla.; three grandchildren; and one niece.

Willard L. Strong

GATE CITY -- Willard Lee Strong, 81, of 121 Old Nickelsville Road, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Scott County and had lived in the area for the last several years. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Cardinal Fencing Company where he worked as a fence installer.
He was of the Apostolic faith.
Survivors include six sisters, Mannie Lewis, Alba Gibson and Lena Ferguson, all of Gate City, Mary Sims, Hilton, Va., Ostia Barber, Kingsport, and Beatrice Strong, Weber City; three brothers, Marion Strong, Kingsport, George Elmer Strong, Bristol, Virginia, Frank Strong, Gate City; and several nieces and nephews.
Colonial Funeral Home is in charge.

Edith F. Tolbert

ERWIN -- Edith Frances Tolbert, 78, of Erwin Health Care Center died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 1998.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was the widow of William Tolbert.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Rose, Bluff City and Helen McClure, Bristol, Tennessee; one sister, Sally Lantman, Bristol, Tennessee; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Emma M. Vance

METAIRIE, La. -- Emma Molinary Vance, 81, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 1998, in East Jefferson Hospital.
She was a native of St. Paul and a resident of Metairie for several years.
She was a graduate of St. Paul High School.
Survivors include her husband, George Vance; one daughter, Dr. Mary Lee Vance, Charlottesville, Va.; two sons, William G. Vance and George P. Vance, both of New Orleans; one brother, Victor Molinary, Clintwood; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge.

Walter W. Wampler

LEBANON -- The Rev. Walter W. Wampler, 85, of the Green Valley section, died Monday, Jan. 26, 1998, at his home.
He had lived in the Lebanon area for the past 15 years and was a former resident of the Honaker and Council areas. He was a retired coal miner, formerly employed by Island Creek Coal Company and was a member of UMWA Local 1354.
He was a member of Free Christian Church on Big A Mountain near Honaker and had served as an ordained Methodist minister since 1949.
Survivors include his wife, Bessie Penley Wampler; five daughters, Monnie Duty, Honaker, Jerlene Lewis, Karen Wnukoski and Cheryl Dye, all of Stafford, Va., and Inez Harris, Lebanon; three sons, Manuel Wampler, Ashland, Va., Gillis Wampler, Partlow, Va., and Ronald Wampler, Amelia, Va.; 13 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Robert C. Anderson

BLOUNTVILLE -- Robert C. Anderson, 57, of 782 Harr Town Road, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
He was a native of Canton, N.C., lived most of his life in Sullivan County, was a graduate of Dobyns Bennett Class of 1958 and ETSU with a bachelor's degree in economics.
He was with the Sullivan County School System for 26 years and most recently served as systemwide special education home-bound instructor.
He was an avid horse enthusiast, held several offices in the Kingsport Jaycees, and was a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Murray Anderson; two daughters, Mrs. Kim Griffin, Orlando, Fla., and Mary Anderson, Johnson City; one stepdaughter, Pat Ledford, Nashville; one stepbrother, Terry Ledford, Knoxville; his father, Henry J. Anderson; and his stepmother, Ann Shaffer Anderson, Sun City Center, Fla.
Oak Hill Funeral Home, Kingsport, is in charge.

John D. Baker

CHILHOWIE -- John Daniel Baker, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital, Marion.
He was a native of North Carolina, had lived in Dayton, Ohio, for 43 years where he retired from General Motors after 26 years of service.
He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a 32nd Degree Mason in the Blue Lodge, Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Reba (Mainous) Baker.
Survivors include his wife, Mary (Bernholt) Baker; one daughter, Rachel Grant, Dayton, Ohio; two stepchildren, Crist Bernholt and Helen Gand, both of Versailes, Ohio; one sister, Arlene Harris, Elkin, N.C.; two grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.
