Lona B. Thacker
NORTON -- Mrs. Lona B. Thacker, 81, of 2027 Main Avenue, Norton, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998.
She was a native of Letcher County, Ky., where he grew up, and had lived in Norton since 1946.
She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Hurricane Old Regular Baptist Church, Wise.
Survivors include her husband, Euell Thacker; three daughters, Velma Nicholson, Valparaiso, Fla., Deborah Darlene Johnson, Orlando, Fla., and Lona Euelene Balthis, Wise; one son, Zennith Thacker, Houston, Ala.; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Kuhn, Trenton, Mich., Mrs. Cynthia Campbell, New Boston, Mich., and Mrs. Ocie Miles, Belleville, Mich.; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Carty Funeral Home, Norton, is in charge.

Robert G. Wallace
GLADE SPRING -- Robert Glenn Wallace, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
He had lived in Washington County most of his life, after moving from West Jefferson, N.C.
He retired after 22 years of service from Emory and Henry College where he was maintenance supervisor. While employed with Emory and Henry College, he received the Community Service Award from the Emory and Henry Athletic Department in 1991.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred Ballou Wallace; one son, James G. Wallace, Emory; one stepson, Samuel Dixon Clark Jr., Barboursville, Va.; two brothers, Lonnie and Ted Wallace, both of Glade Spring; two sisters, Margaret Dodge, Waynesboro, Va., and Rose Cuddy, Meadowview; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Jimmy L. Worrell
Jimmy L. Worrell, of Bristol, Tennessee, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at his home.
Mr. Worrell was a graduate of Bristol, Virginia High School and the University of Richmond. He was founder, CEO and President of Appalachian Oil Company Inc., being affiliated from 1954 through 1984. Mr. Worrell was a member of the Board of Directors and a past treasurer of Maisons-Sur-Mer, of Myrtle Beach, S.C. He was a past president of the Country Club of Bristol, a former member of the Bristol, Virginia School Board, as well as a former member of the Virginia Oilman's Association. He was a former member of the Kiwanis Club of Bristol and Kiwanis International. In addition, Mr. Worrell was a past Commander of the James C. Brewer American Legion Post of Bristol, Virginia. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lina Harman Worrell. Mr. Worrell is survived by one daughter, Lina Lee Worrell Gann, Columbia, S.C.; two sons, Michael Eugene Worrell, Bristol, Tennessee, Jim Worrell Jr., Bristol, Virginia; one brother, Thomas Eugene Worrell, Charlottesville, Va.;. three grandchildren, Cicley Lynn Worrell, Henry Denton Worrell, Grey Edmund Gann; and one nephew, Thomas Eugene Worrell Jr., Charlottesville, Va.
Akard Funeral Home is serving the family of Mr. Worrell.

Billy H. Adams
Billy H. Adams, 63, of 208 Blueridge Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at his home.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a retired contractor.
He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and attended Avoca Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Patsy Adams; three sons, Tony Adams, Bristol, Tennessee, Ricky Adams and William "Pee Wee" Adams, both of Bluff City; one sister, Betty Rose, Westmont, N.J.; two brothers, Bobby Adams and Don Adams, both of Bristol, Tennessee; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

John H. Altizer Sr.
JEWELL RIDGE -- John H. Altizer Sr., 69, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in a Richlands, Va., hospital.
He was a native of Tazewell County, a lifelong resident of the Jewell Ridge area and was of the Protestant faith.
He was a retired miner for Jewell Ridge Coal Corporation, Jewell Ridge, serving 37 years and retiring in the 1990s from Seaboard No. 1 Mine. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 1760.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Helen Young Altizer; one daughter, Mrs. Gregory (Cynthia Altizer) Smith, Jewell Ridge; one son, John H. Altizer Jr., Jewell Ridge; five sisters, Mrs. Raymond S. (Jenny) Smith, Doran, Mrs. Thomas (Ruby) Ward, Pilgrim Knob, Mrs. Carlos (Kate) Honaker, Ozark, Ala., Mrs. Joseph (Sadie) Mackey, Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Tivis (Mollie) Meadows, Pounding Mill; three brothers, William A. Altizer and R.B. Altizer Jr., both of Jewell Ridge, and Henry L. Altizer, Raven; and five grandchildren.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, Richlands, is in charge.

Virginia P. Atkins
MARION -- Virginia Pauline "Polly" Atkins, 71, formerly of Glade Spring, died Sunday, Feb. 1, 1998, at her home.
She was the widow of Roy Samuel Atkins.
Survivors include two daughters, Dollie VanHoy and Ann Perrotta, both of Marion; two sons, John Atkins, Marion, and Gerald Atkins, Roanoke;. four sisters, Sue Anderson, Glade Spring, Mary Ann Aubrey, Maryville, Tenn., Gay Thomas, Abingdon, and Georgia Kate Graham, Roanoke; one brother, Landon "Dave" Poston, Marion; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Seaver- Brown Funeral Service, Marion, is in charge.

Bernard C. Davis Jr.
CLINTWOOD -- Bernard Clyde Davis Jr., 42, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, in Kingsport, Tenn.
He was a 1973 graduate of Clintwood High School and attended Southwest Virginia Community College.
He was employed with Middleton Mining, LLC, as a miner operator.
Survivors include his daughter, Leslie Amanda Davis, Clintwood; one son, Steven Craig Davis, Clintwood; his former wife, Greta Yates Davis, Clintwood; his mother, Jacqueline Baker Davis, Clintwood; one sister, Jettie Greer Davis Mullins, Clintwood; his maternal grandmother, Jettie Stone Baker, Clintwood;. two nephews; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge.

Nayomia I. Eskew
ST. PAUL -- Nayomia Izora Eskew, 72, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon.
She was a native of Arkansas, moved to St. Paul in 1992, and was the widow of Calvin C. Eskew Sr.
Survivors include one daughter, Juanita Raymond, New Orleans; three sons, Michael Eskew, South Carolina, Norman Lee Terry, Gun Barrell City, Texas, and Jim Eskew, Castlewood; four brothers, Harry Oliver Wilson, George Kingsley Wilson, David Wilson and Danny Wilson, all of Kansas City, Mo.; 40 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in Louisiana at a later date.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary B. Feathers
WEST ROXBURY, Mass. -- Mary Beadle Feathers, 76, of 101 Chesbrough Road, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998, at her home.
She was a homemaker and had served in the Women's Army Corps (WAC) during World War II.
Survivors include her husband, David York Feathers, formerly of the Bluff City and Blountville areas; two daughters, Carole Anne Feathers, Colorado, and Alyce Marie Fitzgerald, Attleboro, Mass.; one son, David Michael Feathers, Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services and interment will be held Thursday in West Roxburg, Mass.

Minnie V. Harness
BLUFF CITY -- Minnie Viola Harness, 94, of 226 Cherry Lane, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Lexington, Ark., and had lived in the area since 1990.
She was a housewife, the widow of Ed F. Harness and a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Dee Harness, Bluff City; one son, Bill Harness, Bluff City; two grandchildren, Shelia Salzman, Lahabra, Calif., and Cheryl Odom, Conyers, Ga.; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.
