COEBURN -- Ernest Whited, 72, died Monday, Aug. 3, 1998, in Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands.
He was of the Church of Christ faith.
Survivors include one son, Tracy Whited, Florida; three sisters, Hazel Richardson, Portsmouth, Va., Mildred Couch, Coeburn, and Anna Mitchell, Marion; two brothers, Henry Whited, Maryland and Void Whited, Coeburn; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Richard P. Arnold
Richard P. Arnold, 55, of 154 Independence Drive, Bristol, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Bristol Virginia, a 1962 graduate of Holston Valley High School and had lived in Elkhart, Ind., before moving back to Bristol.
He was a sales representative with Reynolds Lighting Company, a member of Long Airdox Bass Club and an avid golfer and fisherman. He was a member of State Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn J. Ellis Arnold; one daughter, Jennifer Lynn Arnold, Bristol Virginia; one son, Chris R. Arnold, Bristol Tennessee; his father, Clifford H. Arnold, Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Mrs. Larry (Betty J.) Reynolds, Bristol Virginia; two brothers, Clifford Wayne Arnold, Kingsport, and Larry F. Arnold, Bluff City; one grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Houston S. Blevins
ELIZABETHTON -- The Rev. Houston Sharp Blevins, 93, of 210 South Main Street, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in Sycamore Shoals Hospital.
He was a native of
Carter County, a descendant of some of the earliest pioneer families of
Carter County, and a member of First Freewill Baptist Church. He pastored and ministered in several local area Freewill Baptist churches and was a member of the Ministers of the Appalachian Freewill Baptist Association.
He owned and operated a small hosiery mill.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Ruth Greene Blevins, of Hermitage Nursing Home, Elizabethton; four daughters, Mrs. Tommy (Audrey) Welch, Columbia, S.C., Mildred Rash, Winston-Salem, N.C., Mrs. N.T. (Joyce) Campbell, Chattanooga, Tenn., and Mrs. Wayne (Joan) Campbell, Elizabethton; one son, Wayne Houston Blevins, Abingdon; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

BOONSBORO, Md. -- Carson Cole, 69, of 8842 Old National Pike, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in the Washington County Hospital.
He was a native of Blackwater, Va., was of the Methodist faith and the owner and operator of Cole Drywall Company.
Survivors include his wife, Lorraine M. Ely Cole; one son, Timothy C. Cole, Sharpsburg; one sister, Eva Surber, Chilhowie; one brother, Gale O. Cole, Breezwood, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday in Boonsboro, Md.

Vivian C. Griffin, 80, of 272 Holston Valley Golf Course Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Pine Ridge Nursing Home, Elizabethton, Tenn.
She was a native of Abingdon, had lived most her life in the Bristol area and was the widow of Junior Griffin.
Survivors include three sisters, Hazel Long, Bristol Tennessee, Emily Lilley, Bristol Virginia, and Nancy Williams, Christal River, Fla.; two brothers, Warren Crabtree, Dayton, Ohio, and Boyd Crabtree, Spokane, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

Lodoath Hughes
BLOUNTVILLE -- Lodoath Knell Harper Hughes, 90, of 650 Boozy Creek Road, died late Saturday in Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was a native of Scott County, Va., and moved to the area in 1937. She was a member of Gardner's Chapel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Dysert Hughes.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Mike (Nina) Shelton, Blountville; four sons, Abner Hughes, Ralph Hughes and Ray Hughes, all of Blountville, and James "Jim" Hughes, Kingsport; one sister, Cleo Taylor, Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Sam Harper, Bristol Tennessee, Henry Harper and Ezra Harper, both of Blountville; six grandchildren, several step-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Neva Violet Porter King, 80, of 1122 Corporation Street, Bristol, Va., formerly of NHC Health Care, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker, had lived most of her life in the Bristol area and was a member of First Baptist Mission Center, which is now Norfolk Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Robert Lee King; two daughters, Carolyn Sue Ashley, Bristol Virginia, and Judy Althea Lang, Bristol Tennessee; four sons, Robert Eugene King Sr., and Barney Duke King, both of Bristol Virginia, Louis Malcolm King, Okeechobee, Fla., and Richard Lee King, Douglasville, Ga.; one sister, Ada Rankin, Bristol Virginia; 13 grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Roy A. Meade, 74, of Bristol Virginia, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol.
He was a native of Russell County and had lived in Bristol for the past 31 years. He attended Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Maple Grove Lodge No. 373. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Meade.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Juanita) Sheffield, Bristol Virginia, and Mrs. Gary (Joanne) Booher, Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Richard Meade, Cleveland, Ohio, and Martin L. Meade, Clarksville, Tenn.; one sister, Mrs. A.D. (Thelma) Bateman, Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys Carpenter Monroe, 84, of Bristol Tennessee, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a resident of Bristol most of her life, a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the widow of John Arlie Monroe.
Survivors include two sons, Bernard Monroe, Lewisville, Texas, and Charles Monroe, Bristol Tennessee; one brother, Lloyd Carpenter, Athens, Tenn.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
