David Wayne Montgomery, 41, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a member of Denton's Valley Baptist Church.
He was a graduate of Holston Valley High School and had been employed for 13 years with the Sullivan County, Tennessee Highway Department.
Survivors include one brother, Paul Kenneth Montgomery, Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Charlotte M. Murphy
DAMASCUS, Va. -- Charlotte Ann Mullen Murphy, 59, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998 at her home.
She was a native of Damascus, and had lived in New Jersey before moving to Damascus in 1988.
She was an employee of Martha Washington Inn, Abingdon.
Survivors include one daughter, M. Kimberly Vanaman, Mannington, N.J.; two sons, Patrick Christopher Murphy, Crestview, Fla., and Michael John Murphy, Ft. Campbell, Ky.; one sister, Betty Margaret Greer, Damascus; three grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.

Richard Joseph Nadeau, 67, of Leisure Park Towers, Bristol, Va., died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998, at his home.
He had lived in Bristol for the past year, was a retired accountant, and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Michael F. (Yvonne) Gilroy, Chicopee, Mass.
A private funeral service was conducted Tuesday in Mountain Home National Cemetery.

ABINGDON -- Cynthia Ann Myers Ray, 33, formerly of Avondale, W.Va., died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Randall Ray, Abingdon; one daughter, Shannon Marie Myers, Abingdon; two sons, Kenny Faulstich and Curtis Myers, Abingdon; her parents, James C. Myers, Bradshaw, W.Va., and Carolyn Jeffcoat Faulstich, Abingdon; her step-mother, Alice Myers, Avondale; five sisters, Florence Myers Parker, Abingdon, Jeannie Kennedy, Rita Davis and Jolene Myers, all of Avondale, and Shenandoah Myers, West Jefferson, N.C.; one brother, Brody Myers, West Jefferson; and one step-brother, Brandon Wiles, West Jefferson.

SEYMOUR, Tenn. -- James Fredrick Sykes, 61, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in the University of Tennessee Hospital, Knoxville.
He was a member of First Baptist Church, Seymour.

Sykes, Seymour; one daughter, Cathy Loughran, Woking, England; his parents, Leonard and Aliese Sykes, Bristol Tennessee; one brother, John Sykes, Poquoson, Va.; two sisters, Jeanie Whitehead, Simpsonville, S.C. and Janet Sykes, Washington, D.C.; and four grandsons.

MARION -- Don Edward Tilson, 60, of Groseclose Street, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a native of Marion and was retired from the State Hospital, Marion.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Tilson; two daughters, Donna T. McKee, Chilhowie, and Denece W. Nowell, Williamsburg; two sons-in-law; two brothers, Walter V. Tilson, Marion, and Robert M. Tilson, Hampton; and five grandchildren.

MARION -- Ora Myrtle Asbury, 88, formerly of Bishop and Sugar Grove, died Wednesday, July 29, 1998, in Des Moines, Wash.
She was the widow of Ira Rufus Asbury.

CARTERTON, Va. -- Mamie T. Burke, 92, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at the home of her daughter in Kinston, N.C.
She was a native of Russell County, a member of the Carterton community and the widow of John T. Burke.
Survivors include one daughter, Nealie Bickley, Kinston, N.C.; two sisters, Eliza Johnson, Lebanon, and Chrissie Hagans, Kentucky; one brother, George Taylor, Radford; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

SALTVILLE -- Mrs. Lois Sword Comer, 66, died Saturday, Aug. 1. 1998, at her home.
She was a graduate of Radford University and retired from the Smyth County School System after 36 years of service. She was a teacher at R.E. Worthy High School, Rich Valley High School and Smyth County Vocational School. She was serving as assistant principal of Smyth County Vocational School at the time of her retirement.
She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Chi Chapter and Madam Russell United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, W. Ralph Comer, Saltville; one son, Jeffrey R. Comer, Saltville; two daughters, Debbi C. Clear, Abingdon, and Jennifer C. Taylor, Madison, Va.; one sister, Freda Olinger, Saltville; five brothers, Pete Sword, Bill Sword, Jim Sword and Eddie Sword, all of Saltville, and Jerry Sword, Stanley, N.C.; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a native of Smyth County and a long-time resident of Washington County, Friendship community.
She was the widow of James W. Freeman and a member of the Friendship Baptist Church. Her long-time avocations were quilting and gardening.
Survivors include four sons, Millard Naff, Indianapolis, William "Bill" Naff, Oakton, Va., Edwin L. Naff, Chilhowie, and Donald M. Lusk, Port Huron, Mich.; two daughters, Kathleen McAbee, Gaffney, S.C., Eloise McCall, Meadowview; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two nieces.
