Homer H.Fritz
ABINGDON -- Mr. Homer H. Fritz, 74, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Tennessee and lived most of his life in Washington County.
He was a member of Roberts Chapel Baptist Church. He was a Baptist minister, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a former Commander of the Abingdon VFW Post 1994.
He retired from Pet Milk and was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Fritz. Survivors include two sons, Jerry Fritz and Don Fritz, both of Abingdon; one daughter, Betty Fritz, Abingdon; four brothers, Carl Fritz and Jim Fritz, both of Abingdon, and Dean Fritz and Bob Fritz, both of Damascus; one sister, Ann Phillips, Abingdon; three grandsons; two step-granddaughters; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Freddie D. Garrett Sr.
Freddie Don Garrett Sr., 63, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in Holston Valley Medical Center, Kingsport.
He was a native of Clinchco and had lived in Bristol for 37 years.
He retired as president of Garrett Radio and was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran receiving the Carniege Medal of Honor in 1961.
Survivors include his wife, Jean
Johnson Garrett; two sons, Freddie Garrett Jr., and Billy Wayne Garrett, both of Bristol Virginia; one daughter, Katrenia E. Garrett, Bristol Virginia; one sister, Nell V. Frye, Bluefield, W.Va.; two brothers, Robert T. Garrett, Clintwood, and Willie M. Garrett Pensacola, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

James T. Harris
HONAKER -- James Thurman "J.T." Harris, 62, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in a Lebanon hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Russell County, and was of the Free Will Baptist faith.
He was a disabled coal miner employed with Anchor Coal Company for over 20 years.
Survivors include his wife, Terry Lee Harris; four daughters, Lucille Lathan, Jefferson, N.C., Brenda Lee Stiltner, Honaker, Linda Machelle Bond, Taylorsville, N.C., and Jessica Darlene Harris of the home; one son, James Edward Harris, Lebanon; one sister, Patty Sue Harris, Honaker; four brothers, Orville Lee Harris, Robert Harris and David Earl Harris, all of Honaker, and Chester Harris, Big Rock; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Nancy F. Humbert
Nancy Fannon Humbert, 68, of Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, in Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap.
She was a native of Inman, Va., had lived in the Bristol area since 1974, and was a homemaker.
She was the widow of Ralph "Tar Baby" Humbert.
Survivors include one son, Ralph "Tar Jr." Humbert, Dayton, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Samuel (Debra) Zirkle Jr., East Stone Gap, Mrs. Sonny (Connie) Miller, Blountville, and Mrs. Eric (Michelle) Clark, Bristol Virginia; five brothers, Richard "Bud" Fannon, Big Stone Gap, Dillard Fannon and Allen Fannon, both of Stonega, Bill Fannon, Roda, Va., and Robert "Shorty" Fannon, Dryden; four sisters, Jo Underwood and Glynis Aistrop, both of Big Stone Gap, Annett (Nina) Morton and Shirley Rosenbaum, both of Bristol Tennessee; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

RICHLANDS -- Arvel Johnson, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in a Blacksburg Virginia hospital.
He was a native of Richlands, had made his home in the Tazewell County area most of his life and was a retired carpenter.

KONNAROCK, Va. -- Stella Marie Megredy, 72, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She graduated from State College High School, State College, Pa., class of 1942, and was a graduate of McClains College, Bluefield, W.Va., in 1947.
She was founder and owner of Lake World Realty,
Smith Mountain Lake, and later became the broker for Owens and Company,
Smith Mountain Lake. She retired in 1990.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Leland E. Megredy; two daughters, Sharon Robeson, Mechanicsville, Va., and Charlotte Walsh, Midlothian, Va.; one son, Thomas A. Megredy, Konnarock, Va.; two brothers, Charles J. Riley, Hollidaysburg, Pa., and James M. Riley, Bellafonte, Pa.; one sister, Peggy Fausett, Kokomo, Ind.; and five grandchildren.

OLIVER SPRINGS, Tenn. -- John Preston Murray died Saturday, Aug. 1, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Washington County, Va., moved to Oliver Springs, in 1965, and was retired from Tennessee Tool after 17 years of service.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Murray; two sons, Douglas Preston Murray, Knoxville, and James Ray Murray, Oliver Springs; one stepdaughter, Joann Bell, Knoxville; one brother, Leon R. Murray, Blountville; and three grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday in Oak Ridge.

Bill D. Parks, 69, of Bristol Virginia, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, in Cambridge House, Bristol Tennessee.
He was a native of Campbell, Mo., and a resident of Bristol for over 30 years. He was retired from the Dollar General Corporation with 30 years of service and was a member of North Bristol Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Joyce Hopwood Parks; one daughter, Rhonda Parks Clarke, Kingsport; two sons, Billy Steven Parks, Pine Bluff, Ark., and Michael Ralph Parks, Bristol Virginia; two brothers, John Lewis Parks, Campbell, Mo., and Ronald Gene Parks, Whitesburg, Ky; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
