Hubert Kirby
MARION -- Hubert Kirby, 89, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a native and a resident of Smyth County all of his life. He was a longtime member of the Marion Baptist Church and the Convention Bible Class.
He retired from Southwestern State Hospital as superintendent of the building and grounds with 35 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Snavely Kirby.
Survivors include one son, Charles Kirby, Marion; two grandsons, Charles Kirby Jr., Richmond, and Ronnie Kirby, Marion; two great-granddaughters; two step-great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.

RAVEN, Va. -- Mrs. Delsie V. Plaster Mays, 80, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in a Lebanon health care center.
She was a native of Swords Creek, had made her home in the Wardell and Raven areas her entire life and was the widow of her first husband, Stanley Plaster, and her second husband, Carlos Mays.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Plaster, Raven, and Wayne Plaster, Tampa, Fla.; two stepsons, Paul Mays, Grundy, and Danny Mays, Florida; four sisters, Mrs. Carol Cox, Ellenton, Fla., Mrs. Arbutus Forester, Honaker, Mrs. Madeline Whited, Akron, Ohio, and Mrs. Avalene Dye, Fredericksburg, Va.; one brother, Cleve Dye Jr., Newport News, Va.; seven grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

ABINGDON -- Roy E. Self Sr., 64, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice, Bristol.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and retired from Cherokee Construction.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen K. Self.
Survivors include one son, Roy E. Self Jr., Abingdon; one daughter, Helen Ann Morrison, Abingdon; three brothers, Ralph Lee Self, Bristol Virginia, Charlie Self and J.H. Self, both of Abingdon; two sisters, Lucy House, Bristol Virginia, and Dorothy Vicars, Waynesboro, Va.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth Ann Lasley Warren, of 718 Airport Road, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Aug. 20, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Lebanon and moved to Bristol in 1958. She was a member of the Humane Society and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
She was a former employee of Monroe Calculating Company and retired from Bobby Griffin Enterprises. She was a member of West Hills Christian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph I. Warren; three daughters, Mrs. Clyde (Polly) Bass, Hampton, Va., Mrs. Bill (Linda) Harless, Asheville, N.C., and Mrs. Jeff (Eva) Gatscher, Bristol Tennessee; one son, Marcus Lowe, Kingsport; two sisters; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a retired employee of Southwestern State Hospital, a U.S. Army veteran and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Eliza A. Bebber; three sons, Lewis E. Bebber, Atkins, Va., Fred L. Bebber, Damascus, and Sam R. Bebber, Glade Spring; four sisters, Effie Eckards, Conover, N.C., Elizabeth Winkler, Rosie Yoder and Betty Milhorne, all of Hickory, N.C.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

NORTH TAZEWELL -- Stella Blevins, 95, of Riverside Drive, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998, in a Richlands, Va., hospital.
She was a native of Washington County, Va., had made her home in the Tazewell area for the past 60 years, and was the widow of Claude Blevins.
She was a housewife and attended Pisgah United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary Louise Campbell Hymen, North Tazewell; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

ABINGDON -- Mrs. Thelma Juanita Talbert Hershman, 80, died Monday, Aug. 31, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Saltville, had resided in Abingdon for the past 20 years and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary W. Hogston, Abingdon, and Bernice W. Falligant, Savannah, Ga.; one sister, Helen T. Felty, Salem, Va.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
