CASTLEWOOD -- Joseph "Jay" Heranney III, 24, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in St. Mary's Hospital, Norton.

George W. Pierson
George W. Pierson, 98, of Grand Court, Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House.
He was a native of Gate City and had lived most of his life in Bristol. Following his graduation from King College, he served the college as a professor, business manager and treasurer. After World War II, he practiced public accounting until his retirement in 1985. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as treasurer for over 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie Rutherford Pierson.
Survivors include one daughter, Nancy Cavett, Maitland, Fla.; two sons, Richard Pierson, Richmond, and Robert Pierson, Omaha, Neb.; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Gladys E. Reynolds
Gladys E. Reynolds, 86, of National Healthcare of Bristol, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, in National Healthcare of Bristol.
She was a charter member of Fellowship Chapel, having donated, along with her husband, the land where the original Fellowship Chapel was built. She was a retired employee of Univac and a well-known seamstress. She was the widow of Roy Reynolds.
Survivors include one son, Dewey Reynolds, Blountville; one sister, Mae Phipps, Bristol Virginia; one half-sister, Ruth Waterman, Blountville; one half-brother, Henry Bellamy; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Claude S. Yates
HAYSI -- Claude S. Yates, 69, died Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, in Dickenson County Medical Center, Clintwood. He was a retired miner and was of the Old Regular Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Yates; six daughters, Carolyn Young, Joyce Yates, Verlene Borom and Dorlene Yates, all of Richmond, Darlene Telbolt, North Carolina, and Gay Edwards, Haysi; one son, Dallas Yates, Richmond; five stepchildren; eight sisters, Rose Mullins, Stella Yates, Sarah Mullins and Italy Mullins, all of Haysi, Dollie Rose, Coeburn, Aminda McCowan, Detroit, Rena Fuller, Galion, Ohio, and Vertie Fuller, Hanover, W.Va.; three brothers, Cain Yates and Bart Yates, both of Haysi, and Trinkle Yates, Clintwood; and several grandchildren.

Ruby Brockwell
Ruby Brockwell, 72, of 3156 Avoca Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Mountain City, moved to Bristol in 1942, and was the widow of Carl Brockwell. She was a member of Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three daughters, Loretta Ann Tibbs, Bristol, Mrs. Donald (Mary Jean) Hicks, Blountville, and Mrs. Neil (Brandy) Harris, Warren, Mich.; two sisters, Pauline Mullins and Lacy Wagner, both of Virginia; two brothers, Stacy Wagner, Virginia, and William Reece, North Carolina; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Edward W. Burchette
Edward Wayne Burchette, 75, of Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol Tennessee.
He was a native of Kirkwood, Ill., and spent most of his life in Washington County, Va. He was a U.S. Army veteran and retired from Norfolk-Southern Railroad Corporation.
Survivors include his wife, Mabel Burchette; one son, Dr. Bobby W. Burchette, Lexington, Ky.; one sister, Helen B. Morgan, Damascus; and one granddaughter, Kellie B. Goldstein, Arlington, Va.

Opal L. Faust
Opal E. Leonard Faust, 73, of 733 Randolph Street, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Abingdon, had lived all her life in the Bristol area, was a member of Fellowship Chapel and attended Gospel Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence D. Faust; one son, Roger Faust, Bristol Tennessee; one sister, Inez Barrett, Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, J.C. Leonard, Blountville, Russell Leonard, Abingdon, and H.S. Leonard, Chattanooga; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

ALEXIS, N.C. -- Elzie Alvin Haney, 77, of Big Creek Hollow Road, died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in Rehab and Health Center, Gastonia, N.C.
He was a native of Marietta, Ga., an auto mechanic and was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Sherin Haney.
Survivors include three sons, John Haney, Atlanta, Chuck Haney, Bristol Virginia, and Roger Haney, Charlotte; two daughters, Glenda Jacobs, Charlotte, and Betty Haney Gravitt, Atlanta; one stepson, Ernest Currie, Belmont, N.C.; five stepdaughters, Gail Buchanan, Charlotte, Joann Hedrick, Mathews, N.C., Patsy Parker, Kings Mountain, N.C., Phyllis Homesley, Stanley, N.C., and Brenda Harris, Waco, N.C.; one brother, Bill Haney, Atlanta; nine grandchildren; and 12 step-grandchildren.
Cryptside services and burial will be held Friday in Lincolnton, N.C.

CASTLEWOOD -- Con Arch Johnson, 100, of the Molls Creek Community died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in Maple Grove Health Care Center, Lebanon.
He was a lifelong resident of Russell County and a farmer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Nannie Belle Osborne Johnson.
Survivors include two daughters, Virginia Ellen

Survivors in addition to her parents include her paternal grandfather, Ronnie Rogers, Bristol Tennessee; her maternal grandparents, Roger and Nancy Owens, Abingdon; two maternal great-grandmothers, Mervil Rowe and Dorothy King, both of Abingdon; her paternal great-grandparents, Willie and Jay Rogers, Bristol Tennessee; her maternal great-great-grandmother, Lily Stiltner, Grundy; two uncles; one aunt; and several cousins.

RICHLANDS -- Kenneth Earl Lemon, 41, of 1437 Farmer St., died Wednesday, Sept. 9, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native of Winterset, Iowa, a graduate of Adel-DeSota High School, Adel, Iowa, and had lived most of his life in Gwinnett County, Ga. He had made his home in the Richlands area for the past two years and was a construction worker for Concrete, Inc., Lebanon.
Survivors include his former wife, Linda Cole Lemon; two daughters, Miss Ashley Rose Lemon and Miss Tessa Dawn Lemon both of the home; his parents, Earl and Rose Ann Penick Lemon, DeSoto, Iowa; four sisters, Mrs. Cheryl Fieguth, Alturas, Calif., Mrs. Crystal Laird, Minburn, Iowa, Mrs. Carla Willcoxen, Honolulu, and Mrs. Ceclia Cox, VanMeter, Iowa; two brothers, Kevin Lemon, Madrid, Iowa, and Keith Lemon, Grimes, Iowa; and his maternal grandparents, John and Rose Mary Penick, Bayard, Iowa.
