Evelyn E. Davis

PAINTLICK, Va. -- Evelyn Eugene Puckett Davis, 74, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in a Bristol Tennessee hospital.
She was a native of Tazewell County, a lifelong resident of the Painlick area and a member of Midway Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Ed Davis; a daughter, Mrs. Joan Brown, Abingdon; two sons, Larry Lynn Davis, Cedar Bluff, and Lonnie Gene Davis, Pounding Mill; five sisters, Mrs. Pauline Meade and Mrs. Rose Tatum, both of Paintlick, Mrs. Mary Tatum and Mrs. Virginia Tatum, both of Richlands, and Mrs. Nancy Ray, Tazewell; two brothers, Walker Puckett and Melvin Puckett, both of Tazewell; and five grandchildren.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, Richlands, is in charge.

Mary K. Dotson

LEBANON -- Mary Katherine Duty Dotson, 81, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County, was of the Christian faith and the widow of Charlie O. Dotson.
Survivors include seven daughters, Maudie Ella Williams, West Virginia, Phyllis Ann Deskins, Judy Faye Dotson, Agnes Louise Gobble, Norma Jean Fields, Linda Dotson Sword and Brenda Dotson Meade, all of Lebanon; two sons, Robert Lee Dotson, Lebanon, and Sam J. Dotson, Castlewood; three stepchildren, Audrey Cloyd, Jonesborough, Tenn., Lucille Harris and Mattie Fields, both of Nickelsville; a sister, Martha Artrip, Chilhowie; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Lebanon Funeral Home is in charge.

Elizabeth V. Duff

LEBANON -- Elizabeth Viers Duff, 97, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of the Lebanon area, a retired teacher in the Russell County schools for 40 years, and a graduate of the Radford State Teachers College.
She was a member of the Lebanon Memorial United Methodist Church and the widow of Joe H. Duff.
Survivors include a foster son, Haze Clark Jr., Lebanon; a niece, Frances Jackson Elliott, Lebanon; and two nephews, Jimmy Jessee, Florida, and Donald Jessee, Kingsport.
Russell County Funeral Home, Lebanon, is in charge.

Ina B. Griffin

Ina B. Griffin, 89, of 97-I Tulip Grove Circle, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, in Greystone Health Care Center, Blountville.
She was the widow of B.L. Griffin Sr. and owner of Griffin Clothing Company.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Griffin-Anthony, Bristol Tennessee; a son, B.L. Griffin Jr., Independence, Mo.; a sister, Mrs. Paul (Elizabeth) O'Dell, Blountville; a granddaughter, Ina Laura Anthony-James; three grandsons, Michael, Mark and Danny Griffin; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Griffin donated her body to the James H.Quillen College of Medicine, Johnson City, for medical research. Interment will be at a later date.

Ruth D. Hess

MARION, N.C. -- Ruth Davis Hess, 78, formerly of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998, in Marion, N.C.
She had lived in Jacksonville, Fla., for the past 35 years and was a charter member of Virginia Avenue Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Hess Trice, Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Gus A. Hess Jr., Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Gladys "Billie" Scott, Marion, N.C., and Mrs. Carl (Mary Jane) Mumpower, Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Joe H. Davis, Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

J. Henry Kegley

J. Henry Kegley, of Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Wythe County, Va., attended school there and finished his high school training in Portsmouth, Ohio, where he lived with an older brother. He was a graduate of Milligan College and Harvard Business School. During World War II, he was employed with the Holston Munitions Plant, in Kingsport.
Mr. Kegley founded Tenneva Foods, in Bristol, in 1945, and was a pioneer in the distribution of frozen foods. He was active in the food distribution industry and served its national organization, the Frozen Food Forum.
He was active in the Bristol community and served on many civic projects. He was an active member and former president of the Rotary Club of Bristol, and was recently honored for his 60 years of membership in the Mt. Airy Masonic Lodge. He was involved with the Virginia College Fund and was a member of Windsor Avenue Presbyterian Church and the BPO Elks. He was a very active supporter of Milligan College and was frequently recognized by the College for his generous support. He was the first charter member of the Robert Milligan Society and was named Honorary Chairperson for the Milligan College Campaign for the New Millennium.
Mr. Kegley was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Noblin Kegley.
Survivors include a sister, Frances Kegley, Bristol Virginia; a brother, Joe Kegley, Portsmouth, Ohio; and nine nieces and nephews.

Powell R. Lowe

ABINGDON -- Powell R. Lowe, 87, of 11240 Sparrow Road, formerly of Jewell Ridge, Va., and Maxwell, Va., died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Jewell Ridge, had made his home in Abingdon for the past seven years. He had lived most of his life in the Jewell Ridge and Maxwell areas and was a retired miner employed with Jewell Ridge Coal Company, at Jewell Valley, Va. He was a member of the UMWA Local Union No. 7327, of Jewell Valley, a retired farmer and a member of the Yost Chapel Church, in Baptist Valley.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Altizer Lowe.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jack (Nell) White, Marion, Ind., and Mrs. Jack (Eunice) Breeden, Richlands; four sons, Glenn A. Lowe, Kingsport, Joe M. Lowe, Hatchet, Va., Philip R. Lowe, Abingdon, and James E. Lowe, Forest, Va.;. four sisters, Mrs. Ruth Alley, Harrisonburg, Va., Mrs. Lucille Joyce and Mrs. Clara Nunan, both of Richlands, and Mrs. Roberta Williams, Richmond; a brother, M.H. Lowe Jr., Richlands; 18 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Tedd A. Murphy

MARIANNA, Fla. -- Tedd Allan Murphy, 41, formerly of Marion, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1998.
Survivors include two sons, Jason and Justin Murphy, Chilhowie; two stepdaughters, Tanya and Traci Thorpe, Chilhowie; his mother and stepfather, Nancy Murphy Elliott and Robert Elliott, Marion; four aunts; and three uncles.
Barnett's Funeral Home, Marion, is in charge.

Barbara Phetteplace

Barbara Myers Phetteplace, 66, of Bristol Tennessee, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and co-owner of Sisters, Inc. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
Survivors include her husband, Louis H. Phetteplace III; two daughters, Elizabeth Paige Phetteplace Terry, Bristol Tennessee, and Mary Anderson "Missy" Phetteplace Powell, Clemons, N.C.; a son, Louis H. "Butch" Phetteplace IV, Westbend, Wis.; a sister, Mary Anderson Myers Ryll, Bristol Tennessee; five grandchildren; and a nephew.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles W. Repass

RURAL RETREAT, Va. -- Charles Woolen "Willie" Repass, 84, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.
He was an active member of the Cedar Bluff Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Monnie Buck Repass; two daughters, Mr. Roy (Nellie B.) Gullion, Bristol Tennessee, and Mrs. Keith (Rondia) Burdine, Frankfort, Ky.; two sisters, Bertie R. Blankenship, Galax, and Mary R. Grubb, Clinton, S.C.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Seaver- Brown Funeral Service, Marion, is in charge.
