Courtney Paige Lester, infant daughter of Jimmy Lewis II, and Anna Jean Whitaker Lester, of 32 Westlawn St., Bristol, Va., died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Survivors in addition to her parents include her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Freddy Whitaker, Bristol Tennessee; her paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Lester I, of Bristol Virginia; her maternal great-grandmothers, Anna Lee Whitaker, Bristol Tennessee, and Betty Jean Edwards, Blountville; her paternal great-grandmothers, Hilda Herndon and Virgie Lester, both of Bristol Virginia; and her maternal great-great-grandmother, Pansy Cox, Bristol Tennessee.

BIG STONE GAP -- Giovanni L. "Jean" Phillips, 73, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, in Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap.
She had lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap, was a member of the Church of God and a 20-years member of WIBC.
Survivors include her husband, Ed Phillips; two sons, Leland Phillips, Appalachia, and James E. Phillips Jr., Big Stone Gap; a daughter, Charlotte Gilly, Big Stone Gap; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Jonathan "Tennessee" Grant Powers, died Nov. 21, 1998.
He was a native of Ashland, Ohio.
Survivors include a son, Jon Travis Powers; two daughters, Heather L. Walizer and Michelle Werkheiser; his parents, Jack and Barbara Powers and Carroll and Sarah Cosner; three brothers, Joseph Marciano, Sam Marciano and Tom Marciano; three sisters, Lee Ann Baxter, Lynn Flesner and Marian White; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday in Eternity Funeral Home, 1650 Art Museum Drive, Jacksonville, Fla.
Margie W. Sheppard
SALTVILLE -- Margie Walls Sheppard, 92, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at her home.
She was a member of the Quarry Methodist Church and the widow of Thomas A. Sheppard.
Survivors include three sons, Thomas J. Sheppard, James R. Sheppard and Roy Lee Sheppard, all of Saltville; four daughters, Evelyn Lee, Betty Cornett and Mary Weir, all of Saltville, and Hilda Cannon, Glade Spring; two brothers, Robert Walls, Rocky Mount, Va., and Lensie Walls, Florida; a sister, Myrtle Ridde, Bristol Virginia; 15 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren.

COEBURN -- The Rev. Curtis Eugene Varble Sr., 50, died Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at his home.
He attended the Message of Truth Church, in Jonesville, Va., and the Happy Valley Church, in
Johnson City.
Survivors include his wife, Mittie Varble; a son, Curtis Eugene Varble Jr., Wise; four daughters, Ann Marie Lyttle, St. Paul, Tina Lynn Varble, Big Stone Gap, Virginia Sue Varble and Crystal Gail Varble, both of Coeburn; two brothers, George Woodrow Varble, Swanton, Ohio, and Conley N. She was a native of Pardee, Va., and had lived in Calvin, Va., and Chicago before moving to Gate City.
Survivors include three sisters, Elizabeth Nails, Las Vegas, Nev., Sophia Duff, Morehead, Ky., and Betty Hill, Church Hill; five brothers, Paul Bobrosky, Keokee, Steve Bobrosky, Big Stone Gap, Joe Bobrosky, Glen Burnie, Md., Bill Bobrosky, Batesville, Ark., and McArthur Bobrosky, Clinchport, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

ABINGDON -- Mrs. Virgie L. Buchanan, 93, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was the widow of Perry Thompson Buchanan.
Survivors include two sisters, Nannie Belle Lamie, Abingdon, and Hallie Smith, Wytheville; three grandchildren, Cathy Buchanan, Saltville, Roger Buchanan, Glade Spring, and J.B. Buchanan, Abingdon; four great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law.

James H. Call Sr.
ABINGDON -- The Rev. James Henry Call Sr., 90, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998.
He was a native of Smyth County, Va., and had lived in Washington County for 40 years.
He was a member of Washington Chapel United Methodist Church and had pastored Virginia congregations in Montgomery, Lee, Washington and Smyth counties, and
Johnson County, Tenn.
He was a member of the International Order of Oddfellows.
Survivors include his wife, Anna B. Call; four sons, James H. Call Jr. and Arthur "Whitey" B. Call, both of Yorktown, Va., Albert Roy Call, Newport News, Va., and Robert Paul Call, Hampton, Va.; four daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Dorothy) Haynes, Cleveland, Tenn., Mrs. Roy (Anna) Wright, Meadowview, Acquilla "Kit" C. Eldreth and Mrs. Joe (Millie) Mansfield, both of Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Thomas E. Call, McDonough, Ga.; 23 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

HONAKER, Va. -- Mrs. Joyce Cruse, 67, of New Garden Road, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 1998 in Russell County Medical Center, Lebanon.
She was a native of Drill, Va., and had lived in the Honaker area her entire life.
She was a graduate of Honaker High School and a member of Full Gospel House of Prayer, Drill.
She was the widow of James Joseph "Gypsy" Cruse.
Survivors include three daughters, Claudia Dickens, Roanoke, Leisa Wright and Sharon Duty, both of Honaker; a son, James Joseph Cruse Jr., Roanoke; two sisters, Jean Owens, Honaker, and Margie Artrip, Dayton, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

CLINCHO, Va. -- Viola Mae Fuller, 894, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, in Dickenson County Medical Center, Clintwood.
She was a member of Faith Bible Church of Clinchco.
She was the widow of Claude Carson Fuller.
