Barbara Ann Hammett, 64, of Bristol Tennessee, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, at her home.
She was a native of Gadsden, Ala., and had lived in Bristol since 1969. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a daughter, Theresa Ann Dickson, Bristol Tennessee; her father, O.A. King, Gadsden; a sister, Patsy Nooney, Jacksonville, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Shawna Ann Riddle, Columbia, S.C.

Bill Messer Jr., 71, of 525 Montrose Drive, Bristol, Va., died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House.
He was a native of Wise and had lived in Big Stone Gap before moving to the Bristol area, where he had made his home for the past 42 years.
He was a retired supervisor with the Virginia Department of Highways, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of North Bristol Baptist Church.
Mr. Messer was a member of Patton-Crosswhite Post No. 6975, VGEA, and an Associate Member of Virginia Sheriffs Institute.
Survivors include his wife, Betty McFalls Messer; a daughter, Shelia Doyle, Bristol Tennessee; three sons, William Dempsey Messer, Darrell Adrian Messer and Tony Alvin Messer, all of Bristol Virginia; six sisters, Ruth Payne, Wilma Jean
Johnson and Barbara Ann Smith, all of Big Stone Gap, Mary Jane Springston, Baltimore, Carolyn Faye Hartenburger, Sarasota, Fla., and Brenda Hobbs, Hopewell, Va.; five brothers, James Messer, Teddy Wayne Messer and Max Messer, all of Big Stone Gap, Robert Messer, Richmond, and Joseph Messer, Charleston, W.Va.; four grandsons; two granddaughters; a step-grandson; a great-granddaughter; a step-great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Nina Marie Rhodes, 73, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in the Regional Medical Center, Hudson, Fla.
She was a retired from the Warren Consolidated Schools, Warren, Mich., where she was a cafeteria employee and custodian.
She was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, North Warren, Mich.
Survivors include her husband, Raymond J. Rhodes; a daughter, Judy Lynn Fogo, Knoxville; two brothers, Robert L. Farmer, Coeburn, and George E. Farmer, Carsonville, Mich.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

JASPER, Va. -- Ray Russell, 68, died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in Lonesome Pine Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Lee County, retired from Daniel's Plumbing and Heating and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lucy Wade Russell, Duffield; four daughters, Judy Morelock, Kingsport, Jewel Hobbs, Dryden, Va., Penny Arwood, Jasper, Va., and Linda Strong, Duffield; a son, Augusta "Pedro" Wade, Falls Branch, Tenn.; four sisters, Lucille Russell and Estelle Moore, both of Maryland, Margaret Swecker, Jasper, Va., and Delia Spears, Kingsport; two brothers, Homer Russell, Jasper, Va., and Hascue Russell, Maryland; 18 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Carol L. Dishman, 57, of 21310 Plantation Road, Bristol, Va., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Chester County, Pa., and had lived in Lancaster County, Pa., until moving to Bristol in 1986. She had operated a health care business since 1972, and was a member of the Family Worship Center, Kingsport.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Dishman; two daughters, Donna Martinez, Kingsport, and Audrey Hossier, Lancaster, Pa.; a stepdaughter, J. Lynne Dixon, Philadelphia; two sisters, Ada Almodavor, Manhein, Pa., and Kermeda Welch, Parksburg, Pa.; two brothers, Kermit Stoltzfus, Honey Brook, Pa., and Milton Stoltzfus, Seaford, Del.; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT -- Lue Deema Housewright Garland, 66, of 1916 Granby Road, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital.
She was a native of Hawkins County, the widow of Howard Wayne Garland and a member of the West View Baptist Church, in Kingsport.
Survivors include two sons, Danny Garland and Howard Wayne Garland Jr., both of Kingsport; two brothers, Clarence "Bud" Housewright, Morristown, and Ralph Housewright, Ariz.; a sister, Esther Bombailey, Church Hill; and two grandchildren.

James C. Matlock
PENNINGTON GAP -- James C. "Cam" Matlock, 58, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in Lee County Community Hospital.
He was an educator with the Lee County School System for 29 years and was serving as Mayor of Pennington Gap.
He was a member of the Belcher's Chapel Baptist Church, where he was chairman of the Board of Trustees, chairman of the Building Committee and a Sunday School teacher. He was U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Dotty Matlock; a son, Jim Matlock, Raleigh, N.C.; a stepdaughter, Terry Anderson, Kingsport; his father, Oda Matlock, Rose Hill, Va.; a brother, Boyce Matlock, Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Maureen Hopkins, Rose Hill, Sarah Olson, Radford, and Ruby Bruns, Seattle; and an aunt.

CASTLEWOOD -- Arthur S. Meade, 60, of Route 2, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Russell County Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Russell County, a graduate of Castlewood High School and a member of Lake View Union Church.
Survivors include a brother, Troy Martin Meade, Castlewood; four sisters, Dorothy Jessee, Kingsport, Roberta Osborne and Marie Hurd, both of Castlewood, and Loretta Waycaster, Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
