Sarah M. Michaels
ABINGDON -- Sarah Mazie Wilcox Michaels, 65, a resident of 19575 Lakeview Road, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a native of Scott County, had lived in Abingdon since 1972, and was a member of Gardner's Chapel Church, in Scott County.
Survivors include her husband, John R. Michaels; two stepdaughters, Tiny Fisher, Knoxville, and Gaynell Michaels, Martinsville, Va.; four stepsons, Roy Michaels, Bristol Virginia, Delwood Michaels, Bluff City, Bill Michaels, Abingdon, and Bradley Michaels, Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Edna Quillen, Laura Burke and Audrey Dickson, all of Kingsport; two brothers, James H. Wilcox, Kingsport, and Tom Wilcox, Bristol Tennessee; several step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Campbell Funeral Home, Abingdon, is in charge.

Marie C. Miller
GLADE SPRING -- Marie Callahan Miller, 75, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in Westhaven Retirement Center.
She was a native of Bluefield, W.Va., and lived most of her life in Washington County. She was a member of Old Glade Presbyterian Church and a former owner//operator of Miller Roller Rink, Glade Spring.
She was the widow of Norman E. Miller.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Miller Gentry, Roanoke, and Kay Miller Williams, Kennesaw, Ga.; two sisters, Ann Surber, Damascus, and Charlotte Counts, Abingdon; and four grandchildren.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Robert W. Miller Jr.
BLOUNTVILLE -- Robert W. "Sonny" Miller Jr., 35, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Blountville, a 1981 graduate of Sullivan Central High School and an employee of Sullivan County School Maintenance Department.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Humbert Miller; his parents, Bob and Lois Miller, Blountville; a sister, Terry Miller, Blountville; a brother, Billy Miller, Blountville; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Iva S. Moretz
Iva Shaffer Moretz, 80, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a native of Washington County, Va., had lived in the Bristol area all of her life and had resided in Bristol Nursing Home the past two years.
She was a retired employee of the L.C. King Company and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include three daughters, Lona Houser and Joan Roark, both of Bristol Virginia, and Jeannie Hamrick, South Carolina; two sons, Phil Barker, Bristol Virginia, and Ralph Moretz, Chesapeake, Va.; a brother, Warren Shaffer, Bristol Tennessee; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Chaddie N. Rainey
HAYSI -- Chaddie N. Rainey, 60, died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, the home of her sister.
She was a native of Dickenson County, the widow of Onnie James Rainey and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include a son, Rodney James Rainey, Redington Beach, Fla.; a daughter, Mrs. Douglas (Theresa) Geisel, Perrysburg, Ohio; two brothers, Don Fuller, Toledo, Ohio, and Arville Fuller, Haysi; four sisters, Myrtle Owens and Delora Wood, both of Haysi, Jean Anderson, Pikeville, Ky., and Billie Miller, Toledo, Ohio; and a grandson.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge.

Okla B. Singleton
Okla Boger Singleton, 93, of 409 Old Jonesboro Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Dec. 6, 1998, in The Cambridge House.
She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was of the Baptist faith. She was the widow of Stewart Morgan Singleton.
Survivors include a daughter, Violet Campbell, Bluff City; two sons, Glay Singleton and David Singleton, both of Bristol Tennessee; several grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Robert L. Wyatt
OWENTON, Ky. -- The Rev. Robert Lee "Jack" Wyatt, 70, of 3430 Highway 22 East, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1998, in Owen County Hospital, Owenton.
He was a native of Bristol Tennessee and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, serving as assistant chaplain.
He was a former minister of Grace Baptist Church, Bristol Virginia and the Gratz Baptist Church, Kentucky and had served as a minister in Virginia and elsewhere in Kentucky. He was a social worker for the Department of Human Resources.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Elizabeth Howard Wyatt; a son, Michael Wyatt, Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Libby Wyatt, Newport News, Va.; a brother, Sam Wyatt, Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Mrs. George (Goldie) Bevins, Bristol Tennessee; and four grandchildren.
Funeral and graveside services were held Monday in Owenton.
McDonald Funeral Home, Owenton, was in charge.

Katherine S. Evans
WYTHEVILLE -- Mrs. Katherine Shelton Evans, 47, formerly of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at her home.
She was a member of Joy Baptist Church, Chilhowie.
Survivors include her husband, James A. Evans; two sons, James M. Evans and Rodney A. Evans, both of Wytheville; her mother, Mandy Hayden Shelton, Chilhowie; two brothers, Ernest M. Shelton and Roby E. Shelton, both of Bland; four sisters, Elaine Shelton Sparks, Bland, Nancy Shelton Galliher and Francis Shelton Galliher, both of Chilhowie, and Sandra Shelton Eller, Marion; and several nieces and nephews.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Freddie Hicks
CHILHOWIE -- Freddie Hicks, 48, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, at his home.
He was an employee of the Appalachian Power Company for 27 years.
He was a member of the Chilhowie Christian Church and was a member of the Moose Lodge, Seven Mile Ford.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Hicks; a son, Brian Allen Hicks, Abingdon; two daughters, Jaylnn Cassie Hicks, of the home, and Melissa Burkett Vance, Marion; his mother, Charlotte Louise Hicks, Saltville; two sisters, Nell Branson, Emory, and Barbara Harrison, Lawton, Okla.; a grandson; a nephew; and three nieces.

Oscar R. Hurd
EAST STONE GAP, Va. -- Oscar Ray Hurd, 69, died Tuesday, Dec. 8, 1998, in Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital.
He was a native of Inman, Va., and was a resident of East Stone Gap for the past 26 years.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Fraley's Inc.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in Germany and a life-time member of the Col. C.H. Hagy Chapter No. 45 of DAV, Big Stone Gap.
He attended East Stone Gap Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Hurd; two sons, David Hurd, of the home and Nicholas Hurd, Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters, Kathy Spoon, Benton, Ark., and Donna Stevens, Alexandria, Ark.; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers, Claude Hurd, East Stone Gap, Roy Hurd, Bristol Tennessee and Howard Hurd, Jenkinsburg, Ga.; a sister, Helen Braekevelt, Fraser, Mich., and several nieces and nephews.
Holding Funeral Home is in charge.

John R. Jackson
John R. Jackson, 84, of 10408 Goose Creek Road, Bristol, Va., died Monday, Dec. 7, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a retired employee of L.C. King Manufacturing Company.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Elvin Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Dowell, Bristol Virginia; three sons, Arlen Jackson, George Jackson and John Jackson, all of Bristol Virginia; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
