Hazel G. Jones, 84, of Bristol Virginia, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998.
She was a native of Pike County, Ky., and had been a resident of Bristol since 1940.
She was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church, a member of the Senior Saints of the church and the widow of Jesse James Jones.
Survivors include a daughter, Phyllis Brannan, Bristol Virginia; a son, Avery Jones, Fredricksburg, Va.; eight grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; nine great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

Marvin W. Keen
GARDEN CREEK, Va. -- Marvin Willard Keen, 78, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a member of John Ratliff Post No. 164 of the American Legion and Childs Gentry Post No. 7360 of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, Grundy.
He was a member of Sandy Valley Lodge No. 17, Grundy, a charter member of Garden Baptist Church and a charter member of the Oakwood Volunteer Fire Department. He was a retired manager of Kelsey Tire Company.
Mr. Keen was preceded in death by his wife, Chloe "Rema" Ownbey Keen.
Survivors include a son, Dr. J.E. Keen, Davenport, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Joe (Rebecca) Mullins, Abingdon, and Mrs. Dave (Nancy) Short, Garden Creek; three sisters, Mrs. Ollie Keen, Portsmouth, Va., Mrs. Pearl Wade, Windsor, Va., and Mrs. Beulah Messineo, Carlstadt N.J.; two granddaughters; and two great-grandsons.

Jalna S. Larkey
WATKINSVILLE, Ga. -- Jalna S. Larkey, 66, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998.
She was a native of Indiana, grew up in Mountain City, Tenn., where she resided for many years, and had resided in Watkinsville, Ga., for the past four years.
She attended Emory & Henry College.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh C. Larkey; a daughter, Michele Geery, Braselton, Ga.; two sons, Daniel Larkey, Alphjaretta, Ga., and Michel Larkey, Lawrenceville, Ga.; a brother, Patrick Spurgeon, Statesboro, Ga.; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Sandy Springs, Ga.

Clyde E. O'Quinn
VANSANT -- Clyde Ernest O'Quinn, 71, of Route 1, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Buchanan County, a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA.
He was a member of Coleman Methodist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Gay Owens O'Quinn; a daughter, Sharon Edwards, Clinchco; six sons, Harold O'Quinn, Andy O'Quinn and David O'Quinn, all of Vansant, Ray O'Quinn, Clinchco, Jerry Deel, Birchleaf, and Otis Deel, Phoenix, Ariz.; two brothers, Johnny O'Quinn, Powhatan, Va, and George O'Quinn, Vansant; 17 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

CASTLEWOOD -- Odrick Olen Salyers, 77, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 1998, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home.
He was a retired coal miner and timber man and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Salyers was preceded in death by his wife, Ollie Salyers.
Survivors include three sons, Larry Salyers, Castlewood, Ronnie Salyers, Strasburg, Va., and Terry Salyers, Front Royal, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Pete (Patsy) Bush, Castlewood, and Linda Cannon, Damascus; four brothers, Maynard Salyers, Abingdon, Ray Salyers, Strasburg, Vernon Salyers, Cleveland, Va., and Glen Salyers, Front Royal, Va.; two sisters, Hester Head, Glade Spring, and Beula Stevens, Saltville; 13 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Lester William Smithson, 81, of 796 Beidleman Creek Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and retired from the Bristol Virginia Utility Board after 40 years of service.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Graybeal, Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Marion Smithson, Bristol Tennessee, Woodrow Smithson, Finley, Ohio, and J.C. Smithson, Bluff City; and a granddaughter.

Johnson CITY -- Helen Frances Whitt, 74, of 2021 Sherwood Drive, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, in Appalachian Christian Village,
Johnson City.
She was a native of Wythe County, Va., and a member of Mountain View Baptist Church, in
Johnson City.
She was a member of the Bluff City Senior Citizens Center and served as a volunteer at the Appalachian Christian Village.
Survivors include two nieces, Brenda Stanley and Linda McClelland, both of Bluff City; and two nephews, Jerry Diamond and Dennis Hicks.
