Martha E. Mancuso

ABINGDON -- Mrs. Martha Elizabeth Mancuso, 75, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Cedar Lawn Convalescent Home.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Survivors include a son, William Runion, Lubbock, Texas; a daughter, Linda Lee Vickers, Bristol Virginia; a brother, Richard L. Edwards Sr., Blountville; a sister, Thelma Lee, Abingdon; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

David J. Milton

LITTLE CHALFONT, England -- Col. David John Milton, 64, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at his home.
He received his military officer's training at Royal military Academy, Sandhurst followed by military postings in Cyprus, Germany, and the Middle East. He was chief instructor at the School of Signals, Blandford, U.K., and held high posts in the Ministry of Defense. Upon leaving the Army he served in the British Cabinet Office in Whitehall until he retired in 1993.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jennifer Milton; two sons, Christopher Milton, Bronsgrove, England, and Hugh Milton, Farnsfield, England; a sister, Mrs. Audrey Perkins, Lebanon, Va.; and a grandson.
Funeral services will be held Monday in Latimer Buckinghamshire followed by private cremation.

O. Ralph Moore

O. Ralph "Buster" Moore, 81, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Indian Path Hospital, Kingsport.
He was a native of Russell County and came to Bristol at an young age. He was employed with S.E. Massengill Company, Bristol, for 28 years, and then with Iodent Chemical Company, Elizabethton, for ten years. He was the owner of Country Saw and Fix-it Shop, Elizabethton.
He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of First Assembly of God, Elizabethton.
Survivors include his wife, Madeline Moore; a daughter, Jerry Weaver, Kingsport; a son, Ralph Moore Jr., Elizabethton; two sisters, Vera Moore, Bristol Virginia, and Rebecca Shaw, Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Fred Moore, Salem, Va., Carson Moore, Lakeland, Fla., and Don Moore, Bristol Tennessee; a grandson; three granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and several nephews.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Ralph C. Mumpower Sr.

ABINGDON -- The Rev. Ralph C. Mumpower Sr., 96, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Northside Hospital, Johnson City.
He was a native of Tennessee prior to moving to Swannanoa, N.C., where he had lived most of his life before moving to Abingdon eight years ago to make his home with his son.
Survivors include a son, Ralph Mumpower Jr., Abingdon; a daughter; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Nelson Patrick

CASTLEWOOD -- Nelson Patrick, 80, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Russell County, a retired farmer and was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edna Willis Patrick; three daughters, Mrs. Gaye Hall, Lebanon, Mrs. Ann Chafin, Bristol Tennessee, and Mrs. Connie Sizemore, Castlewood; two sisters, Mrs. Nellie Skeen, Kingsport, and Mrs. Lucy Wolford, Honaker.
Russell County Funeral Home, Lebanon, is in charge.

Victor N. Perkins

SWORDS CREEK -- Victor Nelson Perkins, 68, of the Miller Creek section, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in a Richlands hospital.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Swords Creek, a retired coal miner, having retired from Pittston Coal Company, and a member of the UMWA Local 1594.
He was of the Free Will Baptist faith and attended several area churches. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Richardson Perkins.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Dye Perkins; a daughter, Mrs. Jimmie (Patricia) Horn, Swords Creek; a stepdaughter, Brenda Dye, Bristol Virginia; three stepsons, Douglas Wayne Dye, Abingdon, Clinton Dye and Kevin Dye, both of Swords Creek; two sisters, Pauline Ray and Kathleen Perkins Price, both of Swords Creek; a brother, Harlan Perkins, Swords Creek; a granddaughter; a grandson; a great-grandson; and nine step-grandchildren.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge.

Virgie A. Powers

GARY, Ind. -- Virgie Alice Powers, 92, of McDowell Continuous Care Center, formerly of Elkhorn, Ind., died Thursday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Welch Emergency Hospital.
She was a native of Chilhowie and had been a resident of Elkhorn most of her life.
She was a member of the Crozier Baptist Church and a former member of the Grosses Creek Baptist Church, Chilhowie. She was the widow of James Luther "Luke" Powers.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. John (Eula Mae) Tiller, Knoxville, Mrs. Kenneth (Lois) Smith, Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Robert (Betty) Jenkins, West Grove, Pa., Mrs. James (Joyce) Stitt, Woodford, Va., Mrs. Russell (Della) York, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. Wayne (Shirley) Barton, Elkhorn; a son, Milfred "Bud" Powers, Princeton, W.Va.; a brother, Dale Brewer, Avondale, Pa.; a sister, Rose Powers, Chilhowie; ten grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Hal Ramsey

PINEY FLATS -- Hal Ramsey, 55, of 272 Hideaway Farm Road, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Piney Flats and was employed with the Sullivan County Highway Department for the past 27 years. He was of the Presbyterian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Velma Ramsey; a daughter, Alice Ramsey, Piney Flats; two sons, Frankie Ramsey, Johnson City, and James Ramsey, Boones Creek; a brother, Donald Ramsey, Piney Flats; two nieces; a nephew; two great-nieces; and three great-nephews.

Edgar W. Simpson

POUNDING MILL -- Edgar Walden Simpson, 96, formerly of the Adria and Burke's Garden section of Tazewell County, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Thompson Valley section of Tazewell County, a retired drill foreman with Pounding Mill Quarry and a member of Cedar Bluff Community Church. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Lou Brewster Simpson.
Survivors include two sons, William E. "Bill" Simpson and George A. Simpson, both of Pounding Mill; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Elizabeth Brewster, Newhall, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Ernest C. Snow Jr.

Ernest Cecil Snow Jr., 70, of 19605 Greenbrier Drive, Bristol, Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Logan County, W.Va., had lived in Bristol Virginia for the past eight years and was retired from Powelton Coal Company, Mallory, W.Va.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving with the 5th Air Force, 8th Fighter Squadron, 49th Fighter Group. He was of the Protestant faith.
Survivors include his wife, Lola M. Snow, Bristol Virginia; a stepson, James K. Gillespie, Kingsport; three sisters, Anna Mae Wilds, West Palm Beach, Fla., Daisy Baisden, Crown, W.Va., and Geraldine Dyson, Blowing Rock, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.
