Andy R. Yates Sr.
Andy Russell Yates Sr., 74, of Bristol Virginia, died Monday, Dec. 28, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Washington County.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was decorated with the Silver Star.
He was a retired employee of Raytheon Corp. after 33 years of service.
He was a member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 162, AF&AM and had been a member of E.H. Gill Royal Arch Chapter.
He was also a member of
Johnson Commandery No. 14 and the Jerico Shrine Temple.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his wife, Pauline Rutherford Yates; a daughter, Sheila Wilson, Daytona, Fla.; two sons, Andy R. Yates Jr., Bluff City, and David A. Yates, Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Audry Easterling, Gulf Port, Miss., and Mollie Arden, Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

MARION -- Glenda Glass Bushnell, 48, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Survivors include a daughter, Heather Hawkins, Marion; her parents, Preston and Mildred Glass, Marion; three brothers, Butch Glass, Atkins, Petey Glass and Jody Glass, both of Marion; three sisters, Mrs. Marc (Susie) Sprinkle, Rural Retreat, Mrs. Jeff (Shirley) Pennington, Marion, and Mary Glass, Mouth of Wilson, Va.; her grandmother, Mabel Vernon, Marion; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Zehpha O. Clark
MEADOWVIEW -- Zehpha Octaria Clark, 85, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Cincinnati.
She had lived in Mendota and Meadowview most of her life before moving to Cincinnati in 1994. She was of the Pentecostal faith and a former employee of Johnston Memorial Hospital as a CNA.
She was the widow of Earl W. Clark.
Survivors include a daughter, Leaona Kinnick, Rockmart, Ga.; two sons, William Gordon Clark, Cincinnati, and Ivan Rodger Clark, Abingdon; three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth "Lib" Caudill, Mrs. Ida Humphreys and Mrs. Mae Parris, all of Meadowview; 15 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Clarence L. Compton
DAMASCUS -- Clarence Lloyd Compton, 86, a resident of Riverside Apartments, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was a native of Abingdon, had lived in Washington County, Va., and Houston, before moving to Damascus in 1963. He was a former owner of a service station and store in Damascus.
He attended the Palestine Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Bessie Whitely Compton, Chilhowie; a daughter, Mrs. Billie Lorraine Compton Thomas, Ladson, S.C.; a son, Stephen Wansfell Compton, LaPort, Texas; seven stepchildren; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

Earl F. Densmore
MEADOWVIEW -- Earl Fred Densmore, 55, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a member of the Damascus Holiness Church and a member of the Southfork Express Band.
He was a former employee of Emory & Henry College and most recently was a business partner in Fred and Wiley Home Repair Service.
Survivors include his wife, Sally Densmore; a son, James Edward Stout, Bristol Virginia; a daughter, Barbara Joe-Ann Bott, Abingdon; his mother, Myrtle Sizemore; two sisters, Linda Carr, Abingdon, and Tramel Dinsmore, Bristol Virginia; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Edith M. Frye
NORTON -- Edith Mae Tomlinson Frye, 79, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in Blount Memorial Hospital, Maryville, Tenn.
She was the widow of Richard C. Frye and was of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include a son, Richard "Tenner" Frye, Cary, N.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Brenda Kay) McCulley, Maryville; a sister, Mrs. Worley (Retta) Carter, Clinchport, Va.; four grandchildren, Tina, Julia and Genevieve Frye, and Joey McCulley; and several nieces and nephews.

Mary Harmon
Mary LaVerne Sharp Harmon, 75, of 312 Cherokee Road, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Indianapolis and moved to Bristol in 1953. She worked extensively with health and physical activities for senior groups in YMCA and Bristol Virginia Parks and Recreation Department.
She was a member of St. Anne's Catholic Church, a 60-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, 8 and 40, WOW, the Senior Adult Parks and Recreation Choir, and RSVP. She was a Senior Citizens Field Liaison and involved with the USO for several years.
Survivors include her husband, George "Bud" Harmon; three sons, Michael Harmon, Lawrence, Kan., Pat Harmon, Tustin, Calif., and Tom Harmon, Perth, Australia; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Jones Jr., 52, of 346 Seneker Lane, died Saturday, Dec. 19, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Scott County and employed by Davis Pipe.
Survivors include a son, Chris Jones, Blountville; three sisters, Emma Lou Stratton, Blountville, Betty Ann Staubus, Bristol Tennessee, and Susan Hensley, Bristol Virginia; four brothers, Donald W. Jones, Richard
Jones and Edward L. Jones, all of Blountville, and Lawrence A. "Monk" Jones, Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

KEEN MOUNTAIN -- Hobert Minton Jr. 80, died Friday, Dec. 18, 1998, at the home of his daughter in Lebanon.
He was a native of Coal Field, Tenn., a retired coal miner, formerly employed with Island Creek Coal Company and a member of United Mine Workers of America.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Grace Baptist Church, Stiltner's Creek, the Sandy Valley Masonic Lodge No. 17, Grundy, and the Kazim Shrine Temple, Roanoke.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia Belle Hagerman Minton.
Survivors include a son, Hobert "Pete" Minton III, Abingdon; two daughters, Mrs. Jan Minton Nichols, Lebanon, and Mrs. Judy Minton Huffman, Brandon, Fla.; a sister, Mrs. Marie Abbott, Keen Mountain; and six grandchildren.

MARION -- Helen Lee Powell, 86, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998, in Cooper River Nursing Home, Pennsauker, N.J.
She was the widow of Sebra Powell.
