Goldie C. Polly

JENKINS, Ky. -- Goldie Caudill Polly, 74, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Jenkins Community Hospital, Jenkins, Ky.
She was a member of WSOJ No. 16.
Survivors include six sons, Jimmy Polly, Donald Polly and Glay Polly, all of Shelby Gap, Ky., Clell Polly and Robert Polly, both of Jenkins, Ky., and Charles Ervin Polly, California; two sisters, Myrdle Kelly and Lillian Johnson, both of Michigan; three brothers, Victor Caudill, George Caudill and Frank Caudill, all of Michigan; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Baker Funeral Home, Pound, is in charge.

Brack A. Slate

CHESAPEAKE, Va. -- Brack A. Slate, 79, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Russell County, had resided in the Honaker area in his youth and was a graduate of Honaker High School
He was a retired U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a retired civil service employee and a member of the Deep Creek Baptist Church, in Chesapeake.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ruth McGlothlin Slate; a daughter, Mrs. Bobby (Ann) Howell, Charleston, S.C.; a son, Bill Slate, Chesapeake; two brothers, Carl Slate, Saltville, and Lawrence Slate, Honaker; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment will be held Wednesday in Chesapeake, Va.

Ballard R. Thomas

GLADE SPRING -- Ballard R. Thomas, 66, died Sunday, Dec. 20, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of the Abingdon Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Anna Millsap Thomas; two sons, Ike Thomas, Abingdon, and Johnny D. Thomas, Chilhowie; a daughter, Mrs. Susan Doss, Glade Spring; three brothers, Fred Thomas, Rural Retreat, Ed Thomas, Glade Spring, and Johnny Thomas, Saltville; three sisters, Mrs. Joann Lloyd, Emory, Mrs. Eunice Bott and Mrs. Wanda Wilson, both of Glade Spring; and three grandchildren.
Farris Funeral Service, Abingdon, is in charge.

Avanell Worley

Myra Avanell Sourbeer Worley, 69, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, in Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol Tennessee.
She was a native of Scott County, had lived most of her life in Bristol and was a member of Miller's Chapel Church, in Bristol Virginia.
Survivors include her husband, James Myrt Worley; a daughter, Linda Chambers, Kingsport; a son, Jonathan Worley, Bristol Tennessee; a grandson, Matthew Worley, Bristol; and several nieces and nephews.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge.

Kemp P. Anderson

MARION -- Kemp Preston Anderson, 61, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was retired from MayMead Construction Company and attended South Fork Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Crewey Anderson; a daughter, Sheilea Coble, Monroe, Ga.; a son, Brenda Anderson, Rural Retreat; a step-daughter, Missy Bowman, Marion; a step-son, Tony Hayes, Marion; four grandchildren; and four step-grandchildren; a sister, Ida Anderson, Galax, Va.; two brothers, Eldridge Anderson, Troutdale, Va., and Rex Anderson, Woodlawn, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Hazel C. Ball

ABINGDON -- Mrs. Hazel C. Ball, 64, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Abingdon and a member of the Charity Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Richard Dean Ball, Abingdon; a son, Richard David Ball, Abingdon; two daughters, Mrs. Robert Franklin (Joyce Dean) Spriggs Jr., and Mrs. John (Sara) Denton, both of Abingdon; three brothers, Freddie Nunley, William Nunley and Robert Nunley, all of Abingdon; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Tommy J. Canter

ABINGDON -- Tommy Jack Canter, 22, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998.
He was a native of Washington County and had lived near Abingdon his entire life.
He attended Abingdon High School and had worked for Home Pride. He was also a farmer.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Ruth) Bott, Abingdon; three brothers, David Canter, Ronnie Canter and Donnie Canter, all of Abingdon; three nieces; and a nephew.
Campbell Funeral Home, Abingdon, is in charge.

Goldie K. Cox

Goldie Kate Cox, 83, of 410 Browns Private Drive, Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998 in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a native of Harr, Tenn., and had lived in the Bristol area most of her life.
She was a homemaker, a member of the Holston Valley Baptist Church and was the widow of Jerry Hubert Cox.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Cox and Roger Cox, both of Bristol Tennessee; four daughters, Mrs. Marie Quinlan, Tacoma, Wash., Mrs. Robert Hardesty, Muncy, Pa., Mrs. Brenda Puckett and Mrs. Dorothy Royston, both of Bristol Tennessee; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Dolly T. Fleenor

HILTONS, Va. -- Dolly T. Fleenor, 66, of Route 1, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Scott County, a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She attended Heritage Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Dan D. Fleenor Sr.; a daughter, Donna Fleenor, Bristol Tennessee; a son, Dan D. Fleenor Jr., Hiltons; three grandchildren, Vikki Stine, Dan Donald Fleenor III, Daniel Fleenor; and several nieces and nephews.

Wallace G. Ford

DORAN, Va. -- Wallace Garnett "Wally" Ford, 74, died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998 at his home.
He was a native of Madison County and on the board of directors and a member of the Sonship Tabernacle Church of Doran.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and participated in the battle of the Bulge, serving in Battery "D" 556 Anti-Aircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion.
He was a former employee of Barnett's Inc., Richlands.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Charlotte Virginia Ford; two daughters, Mrs. Bruce (Connie) Shepherd, Madison, Va., and Mrs. Cass (Janie) Beal, Sanibel, Fla.; six step-children, Mrs. Gary Wayne (Patricia) Davis, Bishop, Va., Mrs. Sandra Vandyke, Richlands, Mrs. Mahlon (Shirley) Aylor Jr., Madison, Mrs. Doris Dye, Ruckersville, Va., Mrs. Michael (Joyce) Bartol, Chantilly, Va., and Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Morris, Stanardsville, Va.; two brothers, Thomas Ford, Brightwood, Va., and Jimmy Ford, Madison; a sister, Mrs. Joseph (Vera) Stephens, Culpeper, Va.; and several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.
