BLUFF CITY -- Walter Jay Baker Jr., of 1424 Mount Holston Road, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, retired from Sperry Univac and was a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn "Netta" Cox Baker; four daughters, Mrs. Larry (Margie) Fleenor and Mrs. Gary (Donna) White, both of Bluff City, Mrs. Reggal (Susan) Edwards, Piney Flats, and Mrs. Vincent (Connie) Stidham, Centreville, Va.; two sons, David Baker and Larry Baker, both of Bluff City; three sisters, Mary Watson and Marie Wilson, both of Bluff City, and Sarah Presnell, Birmingham, Ala.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Isabelle Buchanan
COEBURN -- Isabelle Buchanan, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Coeburn, a member of Trinity Life Center and the widow of Emory Buchanan.
Survivors include two sons, Emory Buchanan, Amelia, Va., and William Buchanan, Coeburn; a daughter, Mary Collins, Coeburn; two brothers, Robert Hall and Alfred Hall, both of Coeburn; three sisters, Alice Castle, Coeburn, Marcella Jones, Marion, N.C., and Georgia Vess, Old Fort, N.C.; four granddaughters; and three grandsons.

R.L. Culbertson
CASTLEWOOD -- R.L. Culbertson, 77, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998.
He was a lifelong resident of Wise and Russell Counties, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a had a 42-year career in the automobile business.
He was a member of Fort Gibson United Methodist Church, Castlewood, the Coeburn Masonic Lodge No. 97 AF&AM, and the Clinch Valley Chapter No. 12 Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Culbertson; a daughter, Dr. Jan L. Culbertson, Norman, Okla.; a son, Robert L. Culbertson Jr., Knoxville; a sister, Bess Michael, Princeton, W.Va.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Nora M. Dye
SWORDS CREEK -- Mrs. Nora Mae Dye, 63, of the Lynn Springs section of Route 1, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in Columbia Clinch Valley Medical Center, Richlands.
She was a native of Drill, had resided in the Swords Creek area her entire life, and attended Fuller's Chapel Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Worley Dye; a daughter, Mrs. Rick (Carolyn) Saunders, Swords Creek; four sons, Raymond Dye, Randall Dye, Gary Dye and Rafty L. Dye, all of Swords Creek; seven sisters, Peggy Perkins and Ruby Dye, both of Swords Creek, Shirley Hess, Honaker, Sue Hess and Annie Hess, both of Blackford, Va., Shelby Lowe, Wilmington, N.C., and Geraldine Hess, Newberry, S.C.; four brothers, Jimmy Hess, Lebanon, Bobby Hess and Billy Hess, both of Honaker, and Winston Hess, Swords Creek; and ten grandchildren.

James B. Herring
POPE, Miss. -- James B. "Jimmy" Herring, 71, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, at his home.
He was a native of Panola County, a retired supervisor with International Harvester and a member of Goodhope Baptist Church.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of VFW and a member of the Independent Order of Oddfellows, Chickasaw Lodge No. 8, Memphis.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Douglas Herring; a son, James Bryant Herring Jr., Bristol Tennessee; and two grandchildren, Bradley James Herring and Savannah Elizabeth Herring, both of Bristol Tennessee.
Services will be held Saturday in Goodhope Baptist Church, Batesville, Miss., with burial in Goodhope Cemetery.

Burbridge B. Hurley
PRINCETON, W.Va. -- Burbridge B. "Bug" Hurley, 88, formerly of Jolo, W.Va., died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in a Princeton hospital.
He was a native of Baileysville, Wyoming County, W.Va., and was preceded in death by his first wife, Audra
Smith Hurley, and his second wife, Sadie Epling Hurley.
He was a member of the Bradshaw United Methodist Church, Bradshaw, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and a member of the Iaeger Masonic Lodge 148 AF&AM where he received a 50-year pin.
Mr. Hurley was a retired store owner of H.H. Store, at Three Forks, and lived in Jolo until 1985. He was a member of the Bradshaw American Legion Post 175, Bradshaw.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Don (Joan) Alsever, Warren, Mich., and Mrs. Walter (Carol) Holcomb, Jewell Ridge; a son, Dwight Hurley, Bramwell, W.Va.; a sister, Sadie Blankenship, Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Princeton.

Billette P. McFadden
WISE -- Billette Perry McFadden, 57, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in the University of Virginia Hospital, Charlottesville.
She was a former cashier with the Post Exchange System of Civil Service in Alaska, a former licensed practical nurse with Heritage Hall Nursing Home for 15 years, and received a registered nurse degree from Mountain Empire Community College, Big Stone Gap, Va.
She was a member of Mountain View Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of George McFadden.
Survivors include her mother, Lura Reba Mullins Perry, Kingsport; three brothers, Gerald Perry and Donnie Perry, both of Kingsport, and Julian Jessee, Norton; and several nieces and nephews.

Franz H. Minton
COTTONTOWN, Tenn. -- Franz Hurt Minton, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998.
She was a retired school teacher in Washington County, Va., and Ohio.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Minton; two daughters, Jane McElyea and JoAnn Cirko; a brother, Emory Hurt, Dearborn, Mich.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in White House, Tenn., with burial Sunday in Sumner Memorial Gardens, Gallatin, Tenn.

POUND -- The Rev. Emmitt Charles Mullins, 63, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in Norton Community Hospital.
He was Pastor of Crab Orchard Freewill Baptist Church and served in the ministry for 29 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Freewill Baptist Ministers Conference.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Mullins; six daughters, Donna Mullins, Angelia Bowman, Jennifer Mullins, Stephany Mullins and Tammy Whitt, all of Pound, and Robin Murr, Morristown, Tenn.; a son, Charles Mullins, Pound; a sister, Loretta Adkins, Clintwood; five brothers, Roger Mullins, Blountville, the Rev. Danny Mullins, the Rev. Tommy Mullins, David Mullins and Mike Mullins, all of Pound; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Nora L. Sandidge
Nora Long Sandidge, 91, of 212 Amity Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She had been a resident of Bristol for 50 years and was a member of the Red Cross Gray Ladies. She was of the Methodist faith.
She was the widow of Clyde M. Sandidge.
Survivors include three daughters, Margaret Taylor, Faye Borst and Pat Booher, all of Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Mitch Sandidge and Sam Sandidge, both of Bristol Tennessee; three sisters, Nell Woods, Abingdon, Estelle Wood and Monet Fair, both of Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Jack Long, Andover, Va.; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
