BEE, Va. -- W. Arvil Sykes, 90, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Braxie Sykes, and his second wife, Myrtle Sykes.
He was a retired coal miner, a member of UMWA Local 7025, and a member of the Duty View Primitive Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Sykes, Birchleaf, Va., and Terry Sykes, Bristol Tennessee; four daughters, Jeanette Weaver, Elizabethton, Jerlene Lopez, Abingdon, Peggy Mullins and Irene Fuller, both of Bee; a brother, Banner Sykes, Bee; a sister, Eula Jackson, Vansant; 22 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Gospel Tabernacle and the widow of Eugene Carbary.

She was a native of Russell County, had lived in Kingsport for 36 years, was a homemaker and a member of House of Prayer, Nickelsville. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was the widow of Francis Marion Nickels.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Rexford (Ina Mae) Addington, Kingsport; three sons, Doug Nickels and Ray Nickels, both of Kingsport, and the Rev. Ben (Nell) Nickels, Nickelsville; four grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. -- Barbara Mise Scott, 46, formerly of Kingsport, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998.
She attended Lynn View High School, Kingsport, and graduated from Leon High School, Tallahassee, in 1970, as valedictorian of her class. She graduated from Florida State University, majoring in chemistry.
She was employed with Tennessee Eastman, Kingsport, and Sandoz Drug Company, in Houston. Most currently, she was a science teacher for Space Coast Middle School, Titusville, Fla., where she was nominated for Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Scott was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Scott; a son, John A. Scott, Merritt Island; her parents, Lee and Joanna Mise, Tallahassee; and two sisters, Pat Kirik, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Brenda Sexton, Deland, Fla.
Funeral services and burial will be held Sunday in Tallahassee.
