She was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and the widow of Edgar E. Spradlin.
Survivors include four daughters, Jan O'Quinn, Saltville, Betty Murray, Zenith, Ohio, Rita Pennington, White Top, and Brenda Ashley, Chilhowie; a brother, Leonard King, Kentucky; 19 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

BIG STONE GAP -- Josephine"Jo" Bardsley, 91, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998, in Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home, Duffield.
She was a native of Bluefield, W.Va., and had lived most of her life in Appalachia and Big Stone Gap.
She was a long-time member of the Appalachia United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was the widow of John Bardsley.
Survivors include two sons, John W. Bardsley, Fall Branch, Tenn., and James J. Bardsley, Murrells Inlet, S.C.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

KINGSPORT -- Della Mae Barger, 94, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Indian Path Hospital, Kingsport.
She was a native of Russell County, a resident of Kingsport since 1918, of the Pentecostal faith, and the widow of Raymond R. Barger.
Survivors include a son, Howard Barger, Bristol Virginia; a daughter, Betty Conley, Kingsport; a sister, Rosa Artrip, Lebanon; two brothers, Rufus Franklin, Kingsport, and Woodrow Franklin, Knoxville; two grandsons; a great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

GRUNDY -- Lorene Wilkins Barnard, 97, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital, Grundy.
She was a native of Mulenburg, Ky., had been a resident of the Grundy area most of her life and was a member of Grundy Church of Christ.
She was a retired store clerk, a seamstress and the widow of H.L. Barnard.
Survivors include two daughters, Nell McGuire, Grundy, and Jessie Sue Brown, Williamson, W.Va.; two sons, W.C. Barnard, Tampa, Fla., and Lawrence Barnard, De Bary, Fla; 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

RICHLANDS -- Mr. Leecester Beavers, 65, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Tazewell County, a former employee of Bailey Lumber Company, Richlands, and a member of the Lake Park Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Beavers, Cedar Bluff, and Kevin Beavers, Baptist Valley, Va.; five brothers, Lloyd Beavers and Claude Beavers, both of Bandy, Va., Robert Beavers, New Richmond, W.Va., Whitley Beavers, Joppa, Md., and Eugene Beavers, Cedar Bluff; two sisters, Ruby Beavers, Richlands, and June Beavers, Bandy, Va.; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

GRUNDY -- Evelyn Quinley Blankenship, 58, of the Little Prater section, died Friday, Jan 1, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Buchanan County, a member of Deliverance Tabernacle Church and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Wheeler Blankenship; a daughter, Mrs. David (Barbara) Justice, Grundy; four sons, Danny Blankenship, Wheeler Fitzgerald Blankenship, Sherman Lee Grose and Irvin Thomas Grose, all of Grundy; her mother, Mrs. Linnie Viola Ratliff Quinley, Grundy; a sister, Mrs. Acie (Jearldine) Blankenship, Grundy; four brothers, Arvil Quinley Jr., Rural Retreat, Earnest Lee Quinley, Ralph Quinley and Bailey Darrel Quinley, all of Grundy; and three grandchildren.

NORTON -- Nelle A. Bright, 92, died Friday, Jan. 1, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She had been a resident of Norton since 1947, was a retired school teacher with Norton and Wise School Systems, and was a volunteer with the Wise Appalachian Regional Hospital.
She was a member of the Norton Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two nieces; and a cousin.

COEBURN -- Archie Kermit Childress, 62, died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1998.
He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a member of the UMWA Local 1476, and retired from Clinchfield Coal Company.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry Childress and Tam Childress, both of Coeburn; two brothers, Bobby Childress, Coeburn, and Mack Childress, McClure; four sisters, Effie Browning and Judith Kelly, both of Coeburn, Edith Hamilton, Clintwood, and Lou Pianta, Michigan; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
