ROWE, Va. -- Mrs. Margie Keen Street Ratliff, 78, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in a Richlands hospital.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Buchanan County and a member of the Rowe Free Pentecostal Holiness Church.
She was the widow of Woodrow Street.
Survivors include her husband, Claude R. Ratliff; six daughters, Jean Dobrick, Colonial Heights, Va., Mrs. Neal (Gaye) Blankenship, Oakwood, Mrs. Johnny (Shirley) Stacy, Grundy, Mrs. Rondal (Wanda) Phillips, Woodbridge, Va., Mrs. Eggie (Charlotte Ann) Follon, Stafford, Va., and Mrs. Dennie (Peggy) Bailey, Rowe; four sons, Jack Street, Mavisdale, Lester "Duke" Street and Gary Stacy, both of Rowe, and James Street, Honaker; a sister, Susie Street, Ohio; a brother, John Keen, Honaker; 24 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge.

Gladys V. Roop

JONESVILLE, Va. -- Gladys V. Roop, 86, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Ridgecrest Manor, Duffield.
She was a native of Jonesville, a retired school teacher, teaching in Castlewood High School and Flatwoods High School in Russell County, and Dryden High School in Lee County.
She was a member of Bowling Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include a sister, Annie Simmons, Mt. Airy, N.C.; a brother, Harold Roop, Jonesville; and several nieces and nephews.
Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Jonesville, is in charge.

Trula N. Skeen

WISE -- Trula Nash Skeen, 91, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center, Kingsport.
She was a charter member of Nash Chapel Baptist Church and a devoted homemaker. She was the widow of Tate I. Skeen.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vernoy (Shirley) Moore, Wise; two sisters, Helen Mayo, Wise, and Ruble Stevens, Richmond; two grandsons; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Sturgill Funeral Home, Wise, is in charge.

Betty M. Stacy

GRUNDY -- Betty Mae Charles Stacy, 54, of the Slate Creek section, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Buchanan General Hospital.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include her husband, James Otis Stacy; a daughter, Mrs. Eric (Patricia) Williams, Paynesville, W.Va.; a son, Douglas Stacy, Elkorn City, Ky.; a sister, Christine Delacruz, Lexington, N.C.; three brothers, Billy Ray Charles, Rogers, Ark., Ken Charles, Valley City, Ohio, and Bert Charles Jr., North East, Md.; and four grandchildren.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home, Grundy, is in charge.

Betty C. Stallard

COEBURN -- Betty Carol Stallard, 59, died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, in the Inova Fairfax Hospital, Falls Church, Va.
She was the widow of Fred Stallard.
Survivors include two sons, Michael Stallard, Denver, and Mark Stallard, Louisville, Ky.; her mother, Thelma Stallard, Coeburn; two brothers, Tracy Stallard, Wise, and Noel Stallard, Coeburn; a sister, Madge Pope, Manassas, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen G. Wright

ELIZABETHTON -- Helen Geneva Wright, 75, of Life Care Centers of America, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Johnson City Medical Center Hospital.
She was a native of Bristol, a former resident of Newport, and had lived in Johnson City for a number of years. She was the widow of the Rev. Neal J. Wright.
She was a member of Piney Grove Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Pierce, Smyrna, Tenn.; six sons, Michael Wright, Bristol Tennessee, Charles Wright, Simon Wright and Wesley Wright, all of Johnson City, Johnny Wright, Gray, and Terry Wright, Newport; two sisters, Mary Godsey, Johnson City, and Georgia Tadlock, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Morris-Baker Funeral Home, Johnson City, is in charge.

Joella R. Adams

GLOUCESTER POINT, Va. -- Joella Richardson Adams, 68, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, in Riverside Regional Medical Center.
She was a native of Pennington Gap, retired in 1974 from Newport News School System, and was a member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, John J. Adams Jr.; a daughter, Mrs. Horace (Teresa Adams) Kelley; two sons, J. Javan Adams Jr., and William W. "Bill" Adams; a grandson; a granddaughter; an aunt; an uncle; and several cousins.
Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point, is in charge.

Thomas J. Clear

DE FUNIAK SPRINGS, Fla. -- Thomas Jefferson Clear, 53, who also had a home in Saltville, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in a Pensacola, Fla., hospital.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home, Saltville, is in charge.

Robert E. Davis

GATE CITY -- Robert Everett "Bob" Davis, 59, of 108 Parker Estate Road (Hilton Road), died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a native of Hickory, N.C., lived in Richmond from 1960 to 1971, before moving to Hiltons, Va. He attended Bluefield High School, Bluefield, W.Va., and was a graduate of Barber College, Richmond. He and his wife were co-owners of Holston Barber Shop, Weber City. He had been a barber for 36 years. In the 1970s he served on the Virginia State Board of Barbers, changing the rules and regulations of state board exams.
Mr. Davis was a member of Hiltons United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Gate City Civitan Club.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Baker Davis; a son, Robert "Shane" Davis, Gray, Tenn.; two sisters, Shirley Ann Davis, of the home, and Mrs. Ed. (Nora Lee) Warfield, Lewisburg, W.Va.; a half-sister, Jerri Smith, Covington, Va.; six nephews; and five nieces.
Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, is in charge.

Palmer J. Dorton

BIG STONE GAP -- Palmer J. "Shake" Dorton, 77, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999.
He was a native of Wise County, but was a lifetime resident of Big Stone Gap, and retired from Westmoreland Coal Company. He was a 50-year member of the UMWA District 28, Local No. 8181.
He was a Wise County Deputy Sheriff, under Sheriff McClouglin, and a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Patsy) Daugherty, Big Stone Gap; a brother, Howard Dorton, Big Stone Gap; a sister, Eva Terry, Danville; two grandchildren, William Morrison and Gina Lovell, both of Big Stone Gap; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, is in charge.

William T. Elkins

CLINTWOOD -- William Tilden "Wig" Elkins, 63, died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital.
He was of the Baptist faith, a self-employed mechanic for many years in Indiana, before moving back to Virginia in 1972 and going into the coal mining industry.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Kay Stanley, Clintwood, Donna Kate Brown, Chesee, S.C., and Christy Elkins, Palatka, Fla.; six brothers, Cossie Elkins, John A. Elkins, Kermit Elkins, Troy Elkins, Hurshel Elkins and Cova Elkins, all of Clintwood; two sisters, Norma Hendricks, LaFollette, Tenn., and Ann Rose, Big Stone Gap; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mullins Funeral Home, Clintwood, is in charge.
