Tommy R. Joyce

RICHLANDS -- Tommy Reece Joyce, 57, died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Tazewell County, owner of Tommy Joyce Auto Repair, Claypool Hill, and was formerly employed with Prestige Ford, Richlands.
He was an enthusiastic bowler and captain of the Tuesday Night Men's Team. He was an avid sports fan and hunter.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Kindred Joyce; two sons, Bernard Elliott Joyce and Tommy Reece Joyce Jr., both of Richlands; five brothers, Delbert Joyce, Walter Joyce, Howard Joyce, Hufford Joyce Jr., and Kenneth Joyce, all of Cedar Bluff; and three grandchildren.
Singleton Funeral Service, Cedar Bluff, is in charge.

Hazel E. Kelley

Hazel G. Kelley, of Bristol Virginia, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, in Johnson City Medical Center.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. John S. (Ann B.) Kelley, Bristol Virginia; and a grandson.
Private burial services have been held.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Ray Lundy

OAKWOOD -- Ray Lundy, 87, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, in a Grundy hospital.
He was a native of Virginia, a retired coal miner formerly employed by Red Jacket, and a member of UMWA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Thelma Hill.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. William (Peggy) Ganzeveld, Allen Park, Mich., Mrs. Thomas (Judy) Hunter, Heraldsburg, Calif., and Mrs. Curtis (Laura Beth) Wade, Jewell Ridge, Va.; four sons, Sidney Lundy, Panama City, Fla., Dennis Ray Lundy, Youngstown, Fla., Larry Engardio, Shorts Gap, and Bannon Lundy, Colorado; a stepson, C.J. Ratliff, Haverhaill, Ohio; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Buchanan Funeral Service, Keen Mountain, is in charge.

Robert G. Riner

PROSPERITY, W.Va. -- Robert Glen Riner, 77, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Beckley, W.Va.
He was a native of Kingsport, a former resident of Bristol, and had lived in Baltimore for 30 years before moving to Prosperity, where he had made his home for the past 18 years.
He was a retired insurance agent with Baltimore Life Insurance Company and a former FBI agent working with the Alcohol Tax Unit.
Mr. Riner was Past President of Hawthorne Civic Association, a member of Charleston, W.Va., Moose Lodge 1444, and an avid square dancer.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, and a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Harbo Riner; a sister, Lilly Crawford, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge.

Isaac E. Swiney

Isaac Ernest "Ike" Swiney, 74, of 1513 King College Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Greene County, Tenn., had lived most of his life in Bristol Tennessee, and was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was a retired truck driver with Kerns Bakery with 30 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred June Hamilton Swiney; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Joyce) Jones, Bristol Tennessee; three sons, Sammy E. Swiney, Gary Lynn Swiney and Phillip Dean Swiney, all of Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, William C. Swiney, Blountville, and R.C. Swiney, Bristol Tennessee; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a step-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Blevins Funeral Home is in charge.

Darrell W. White

SWORDS CREEK, Va. -- Darrell Wayne White, 42, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, from injuries sustained in a mining accident.
He was a native of Richlands, a lifelong resident of the Swords Creek area and a member of the Jones Chapel Free Pentecostal Church of God, at Cedar Bluff, where he served as deacon and Sunday School Superintendent.
He was a miner helper for Consol Coal V.P. No. 8, at Garden Creek, and a member of the United Mine Workers of America Local Union No. 2232, Oakwood, Va.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Taylor White; a daughter, Miss Mindy Lynn White of the home; a son, Nathan White, Swords Creek; his father, Clarence White, Swords Creek; six sisters, Mrs. Franklin (Ruth) Smith, Akron, Ohio, Mrs. Jack (Ruby) Lawson, Annapolis, Md., Mrs. Linda Plaster and Mrs. Junior (Wilma) Whitt, both of Swords Creek, Mrs. Lawrence (Shelby) Finney, Cedar Bluff, and Mrs. Jim (Diane) Lakey, Pounding Mill; three brothers, Carl White and Harry White, both of Swords Creek, and Harley White, North Tazewell.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, Richlands, is in charge.

Roberta C. Armstrong
MARION -- Roberta Catron Armstrong, 66, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of Paul Armstrong, was of the Baptist faith and attended the Calvary Baptist Church and Cedars Baptist Church.
Survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Carlton (Nancy) Craig, Mrs. Sammy (Kathleen) Evans, Mrs. Joe (Cynthia) Bennett Sr., and Mrs. Henry (Christine) Cook, all of Marion; a son, Ronald Edward Armstrong, Marion; a sister, Alverta Yates, Bassett, Va.; a brother, John W. Catron, Bassett, Va.; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Seaver- Brown Funeral Service, Marion, is in charge.

Nell A. Bare
LEBANON -- Nell Adams Ireson Bare, 75, died Sunday, Jan. 31, 1999, in the Russell County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County and a member of the Lebanon Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her husband, Lawrence H. "Herb" Bare; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Ashbrook-Goodman, Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Roger H. Ireson and Robert C. Ireson, both of Lebanon; two stepsons, Chris R. Bare, Dahlonega, Ga., and Lawrence W. Bare, Lakeland, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Russell County Funeral Home, Lebanon, is in charge.

Dorothy D. Griffin
BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -- Dorothy Dixon Griffin, 73, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in a Bluefield Hospital.
She was a native of Hinton, W.Va., and a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church. She was a graduate of James Madison College and an elementary school teacher in Mercer County for many years.
Mrs. Griffin was a member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary and was active in the Mercer County Humane Society. She was the widow of Alvin N. "Beanie" Griffin.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Jane) Chudina, Roanoke; a son, Thomas D. Griffin, Bristol Virginia; and two grandchildren, Meghan and Kathryn Chudina, both of Roanoke.
Mercer Funeral Home, Bluefield, W.Va., is in charge.

Calvin G. Herndon
BIG STONE GAP -- Calvin G. Herndon, 80, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in Norton Community Hospital.
He was preceded in death by is wife, Nellie Herndon and was a veteran of World War II.
Survivors include three daughters, Sheila Robinette, Jasper, Va., Mildred Thacker, Kingsport, and Roxie Jervis, Big Stone Gap; a stepson, Walter Woosley, Goldsoboro, N.C.; three stepdaughters, Betty Newsome, Big Stone Gap, Shirley Day, Fresno, Calif., Frances Farris, Findley, Ill; 19 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, is in charge.
