Paul E. Culotta II

FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- Paul E. Culotta II, 25, of 3761 Cherokee Road, Jonesborough, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 199, in Williamson Medical Center.
He was a native of Johnson City and a lifelong resident of Jonesborough.
He was employed with Mitch Cox Construction Company, where he was assistant to the manager.
Mr. Culotta was a volunteer assistant baseball coach with both Lamar and David Crockett High Schools. He was a 1991 graduate of David Crockett High School, where he was a member of the baseball, football, wrestling and golf teams. He served on the student council and was a former member, and currently involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He formerly attended Northeast State Technical Community College.
He was a member of Lone Oak Christian Church in Johnson City, and a member of the United Emmaus Community. In 1997, he served on a short term mission trip to Tecate, Mexico. He attended "Stand In the Gap" with Promise Keepers.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Cathy A. and Brian D. Collins of Jonesborough; his father and stepmother, Paul E. "Pete" and Lisa M. Culotta of Church Hill; his paternal grandmother, Hattie Gouge of Jonesborough; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Appalachian-Hartman Funeral Home of Johnson City is in charge.

Stanley W. Dishner

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Stanley W. Dishner, 70, of Ocean Shore Boulevard, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at his home.
He was a native of Bristol Tennessee, a supervisor with Bryant Electric in High Point, N.C., and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Jericho Shrine Temple in Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma "Judy" Dishner; two sons, Harold of Johnson City and Jeff of Bluff City; a daughter, Deborah Hart of Bristol Tennessee; four brothers, Charles, Lester and Phillip, all of Bristol Tennessee, and Cecil of Kingsport; three sisters, Missouri Shelton and Ruth Varzea, both of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Elizabeth Cronan of Bristol Tennessee; and six grandchildren.
Dale Woodward Funeral Home of Ormond Beach is in charge.

Bonnie V. Duty

BEE, Va. -- Bonnie V. Duty, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
She was a native of Dickenson County and had made her home with her sister for the past 21 years. She was the widow of Roy C. Duty and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Silas (Euna) Hay of Bee; and three grandsons, Richie Counts, Mark Counts and Kenny Counts; four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge.

Maynard Greear

NORTON -- Maynard M. Greear, 67, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, at his home.
He was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Helen Greear.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda Burke of Cocoa, Fla.; a brother, J.T. Greear of Scott County, Va.; a sister, Gladys Rash of Mims, Fla.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Hagy Funeral Home of Norton is in charge.

Claude L. Hunt

ABINGDON -- Claude Lee Hunt, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Russell County, had spent most of his life in Abingdon, and was a U.S. Air Force veteran.
He attended the Duncanville Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Corbett Hunt of Abingdon; two daughters, Patricia Boardwine and Barbara Boardwine, both of Abingdon; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon is in charge.

Allen C. Lee

Allen Clayton Lee, 79, of Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was Past Commander of the American Legion Post No. 145. He was retired from Raytheon and a member of the First Christian Church.
Mr. Lee was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Smith Lee.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Brumet of Atlanta, and Joyce Gray of Nashville; a son, Kenneth Lee of Madison, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Blevins Funeral Home is in charge.

William Long

Charles William "Bill" Long of Bristol Tennessee died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, in Houston.
Survivors include a daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Long of Houston; two sons, Jeffrey William Long and John Robert Long, both of Houston; his parents, Theodore Edward Long of Johnson City, and Martha L. Leach of Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, Fred Thomas Long of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Theodore Edward Long Jr. of Hickory, N.C.
A memorial service will be held Feb. 14, 1999.

Virginia L. Long

HARRISONBURG, Va. -- Virginia "Ginger" Luttrell Long, 83, formerly of Richlands, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, in Sunnyside Presbyterian Home in Harrisonburg.
She was a native of Pikeville, Ky., and a graduate of Richlands High School.
She was a member of Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church, where she held many leadership offices, served on many committees and was awarded lifetime membership in the Women of the Church organization.
Mrs. Long was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Howard R. Long Sr.
Survivors include a son, Howard R. Long Jr. of Richlands; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Nell) Lee of Cedar Bluff; a brother, Jess Luttrell of Cedar Bluff; two grandsons, Howard R. "Howie" Long III and Benjamin "Ben" Long, both of Richlands; and several nieces and nephews.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home, Richlands, is in charge.

Ralph M. McCroskey

ABINGDON -- Ralph M. McCroskey, 93, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Valley View Baptist Church.
He was a retired farmer and livestock dealer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Lala Rebecca McCroskey.
Survivors include four sons, Fred McCroskey, James McCroskey, Jack McCroskey and Ralph Spurgeon McCroskey, all of Abingdon; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a niece; and four nephews.
Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon is in charge.

Louise W. Pannell

KNOXVILLE -- Louise Worley Pannell, 80, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 in Brakebill Nursing Home.
She was a native of Fort Schriven, Ga., but had lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and served in the Big Stone Gap and Appalachia Chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was the widow of Clyde Roy "Suds" Pannell.
Survivors include a son, Frank Pannell of Melbourne, Fla; three daughters, Jenny Gilliam of Melbourne, Susie Boggs of Knoxville, and Robin Sturgill of Big Stone Gap; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Rose Mortuary, Inc. of Knoxville is in charge.

Pearl H. Phelps

Pearl Hutton Phelps, 97, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999, in Charlottesville.
She was a native of the Benhams area of Washington County, Va., and had lived in Charlottesville since 1988.
She had been a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church since 1918, served as circle chairman and was a charter member of the Woman's Society of Christian Service.
Mrs. Phelps was employed with Inter-Mountain Telephone Company and was a clerk with H.P. King Company for a number of years before being a sitter at Johnston Memorial Hospital in the 1970s.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. J. David (Pauline Phelps) Deck of Charlottesville; a son, James Bradley Phelps of Miami; five grandchildren, Mrs. David (Sarah Deck) Stevens of Afton, Va., J. David Deck Jr. of Richmond, James S. Phelps of Miami, Stewart L. Deck of Arlington, Mass., Mrs. Paul (Emily Deck) Harrill of Columbia, S.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Saturday in Abingdon.
Anderson Funeral Service of Crozet, Va., is in charge.
