Johnson CITY -- Irene Feathers Scott, 88, of 488 Lane Hollow Road in Watauga, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in
Johnson City Medical Center.
She was a native of Watauga and had lived most of her life there. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Lick Creek Christian Church and the widow of Carl E. Scott.
Survivors include six sons, Bob Scott, Louis Scott and Gene Scott, all of Watauga, Herman Scott of Littlestown, Pa., Wallace "W.D." Scott and Ray Scott, both of Piney Flats; two daughters, Patsy Bupp of Gainesville, Fla., and Brenda Scott of the home; three brothers, Paul Feathers of
Johnson City, Arron Feathers of Little Rock, Ark., and Owen Feathers of Piney Flats; two sisters, Hattie Baker of
Johnson City, and Juanita Wight of Seattle; 27 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

WISE -- Francis C. "Frank" Smith, 70, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
He was the former owner of Norton Pharmacy and retired from the Russell County Medical Center as Director of Pharmacy.
He was a 1952 graduate of Auburn University, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Wise, a member and elder of the Norton Presbyterian Church, and a member of the Lonesome Pine Country Club.
Mr.
Smith was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War.

FALL BRANCH, Tenn. -- Richard Keith "Orville" Steadman, 42, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999.
He was a lifelong resident of Fall Branch, an administrative specialist in the U.S. Air Force, having served ten years, and was employed with Fingerhut in Piney Flats.
He was a member of New Life Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Kim Lady Steadman; a stepdaughter, Whitney Archer of the home; his mother and stepfather, Mescal Steadman Robbins and Ray Robbins of Fall Branch; a sister, Teresa Harper of Kingsport; a brother, Michael D. Steadman of Fall Branch; his maternal grandmother, Irene Daugherty of Greeneville, Tenn.; his foster grandmother, Opal Mays of Fall Branch; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

WYTHEVILLE -- Melvin E. Steele Sr., 57, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in the Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was employed with ABB, Inc. in Bland.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Steele; two sons, Ryan Steele of Wytheville, and Melvin Steele Jr. of Florida; two daughters, Stephanie and Kim, both of Washington State; two sisters, Barbara Orrison of St. Augustine, Fla., and Dolores Dempsey of Marion; three brothers, Sam Steele and Richard Steele, both of Vero Beach, Fla., and Tom Steele of Marion; and four grandchildren.

Rex H. Wolfe
MARION -- Rex H. Wolfe, 93, died Monday, March 8, 1999, in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
He was a native of Smyth County, attended Bluefield College and played football in the days before helmets were worn. He was widely known for his boxing and is listed in one of Sherwood Anderson's writings as having the biggest biceps and being the strongest man Anderson had ever seen. A picture of his arm was sold to Arm & Hammer Baking Soda and is still featured on their boxes. His arm is also still featured in /{Atlas Magazine/}.
Mr. Wolfe is known for building 12 Barn Dinner Theaters located over the Southeastern United States, road building throughout the U.S.A., and helping build the Pan America Highway in Costa Rica. He is known for raising Champion American Saddlebred horses, for organizing the Red Coats Equestrian Team at Radford University, and his willingness to defend the right.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Tilley Wolfe.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Peter R. (Dorothy Nell) Ventresca of Marion; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

KINGSPORT -- Ruth Austin Young, 88, died Tuesday, March 9, 1999, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was a native of Dickenson County, a former resident and the retired Postmaster of Trammel, Va., and a former resident of Yuma, Va.
She was a member of Holston View United Methodist Church in Weber City, and the widow of A.E. Young.
Survivors include a sister, Thelma Mann of Honaker; a niece and care giver, Mrs. Don (Mary W.) Billings; and several other nieces and nephews.

BIG STONE GAP -- Scott T. Barker, 75, died Wednesday, March 10, 1999 in Wellmont Lonesome Pine Hospital in Big Stone Gap.
He was a lifelong resident of the area and a member of West End Baptist Church.
He was employed with Robinette Iron & Metal Works.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Barker; a son, Cecil Barker of Big Stone Gap; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Wanda) Collier of Wise; a sister, Nora Reynolds of Appalachia; a grandson; a granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews.

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Hubert Beverly, 71, died Monday, March 8, 1999.
He was retired from OCSC after 35 years and was a member of Second Community Church, St. Marks No. 7.
He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; a son, Scott Beverly; four brothers, Jack, Ernest, Joe and Gilmer Beverly; three sisters, Audrey Beverly, Mrs. Carl (Margaret) Wood and Mrs. John (Charlotte) Houchins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday in Columbus.

Arlie W. "Tommy" Bullock, 70, of Bristol Tennessee, died Monday, March 8, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Bristol Tennessee, a U.S. Army veteran, and a retired employee of Beecham Laboratories with 37 years of service.
He was a member of Central Holston Christian Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry Bullock of Bristol Tennessee; a sister, Doris Jane Davis of Bristol Tennessee; two brothers, Billy H. Bullock of Bristol Tennessee, and James H. Bullock of Morrow, Ga.; two grandchildren; four aunts; several cousins; and several nieces and nephews.
