Carolyn B. Hittle

Carolyn B. Hittle, 51, of Bristol Tennessee died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Dunbar, Va., a daughter of Helen Mullins Day of Dunbar and the late James Ralph Day. She lived in Bristol for six years. She was a member of Dunbar United Methodist Church and attended Church of The Glad Tidings in Bristol.
Surviving, besides her mother, are her husband, James L. Hittle; two sisters, Debi Heske of Bristol Tennessee and Jennifer Lambert of Dunbar, Va.; three brothers, Ronald E. Day and Glenn A. Day, both of Dunbar, and Michael W. Day of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Hagy Funeral Home Chapel in Norton. The Revs. Timothy Rice and Tony Nunley will officiate. Burial will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens.
Among survivors are an uncle and several aunts and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Hagy Funeral Home.

Florence G. Huffine

Florence Gibson Huffine died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in National HealthCare of Bristol.
She was born in Jonesville, Lee County, Va., a daughter of the late C.B. and Margaret Gibson, and lived most of her life in Bristol. She was a member of Addilynn Memorial United Methodist Church and the widow of Bruce Huffine. She was a librarian at Avoca Library and retired from the Bluff City Public Library.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlotte Sams of Bluff City; a son, Charles Huffine of Roanoke; and five grandchildren, Patricia Sams and Chad Sams, both of Knoxville, David Huffine and Dr. Christine Huffine, both of Roanoke, and Richard Huffine of Washington, D.C.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum in Glenwood Cemetery by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. Dr. Ross Dampier, Mr. Sid Tiller and the Rev. Steve Brown will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Among survivors are a son-in-law, Linville Sams; a daughter-in-law, Clara Gillette Huffine; a special friend, Doris Fish; a brother-in-law, Jim Huffine of Johnson City; and a sister-in-law, Mabel Huffine of Johnson City.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in the funeral home and other times at the home of daughter Charlotte Sams.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rosalie B. Hutton

ABINGDON -- Rosalie Bell Hutton died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late James W. Bell and Rosa Lee Hurt Bell and the widow of Judge Thomas L. Hutton. She attended Randolph Macon Women's College in Lynchburg, Va., and graduated from art school in New York City. She was a lifelong member of Sinking Spring Presbyterian Church in Abingdon. She was a founding member of Virginia Highlands Arts Festival.
Surviving are a daughter, Anne P. Hutton of Abingdon; a son, Thomas L. Hutton Jr. of Abingdon; several nieces and nephews; and a great-niece.
Graveside services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park by Campbell Funeral Home. The Rev. Dr. Robert N. Lominack Jr. will officiate.
Mrs. Hutton was also preceded in death by two sisters, Rachel Bell Maiden and Dorothy Bell; and a brother, Wellford Bell.
Among survivors are a great-niece, Terrell Wagman of Abingdon; and several cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Campbell Funeral Home.

Floyd B. Lawrence

SALTVILLE -- Floyd Beattie Lawrence died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was the widower of Ruth Roberts Lawrence.
Surviving are two sons, Floyd Beattie Lawrence Jr. of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Douglas Bruce Lawrence of Roanoke; four grandchildren, Nansha McGee of Studio City, Calif., Brian K. Lawrence of Channel Island, Calif., Anthony Scott Lawrence of Thousand Oaks and Antoni Bayne Lawrence of Richmond; three great-grandchildren, Tyler McGee of Studio City, Whitney Lawrence of Thousand Oaks and Alicia E. Lawrence of Richmond; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Henderson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
Among survivors are a daughter-in-law, Ramona E. Lawrence of Gladys, Va.; and a nephew, Richard Harold Lawrence and wife Shirley of Bluff City.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Saltville Rescue Squad.

William C. Massingill

BLOUNTVILLE -- William Carl Massingill of 518 Shadow Town died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Weaver Funeral Home.

Allen E. Maxwell

Funeral services for Allen E. "Gene" Maxwell Sr. will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel in Bristol Tennessee. The Rev. Walter Statzer will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Maxwell, 69, of 9463 Chelsea Lane, Bristol, Va., died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Shipp, Scott Key, Bobby Hutton, Danny Murray, Frankie Childress and Tony Blair. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Key, Johnny Grubb, Dr. Michael Rowell, Dr. Thomas W. Green and Garry Lovins.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ted C. Meadows

STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- Funeral services for Ted Carl Meadows will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel in Grundy, Va. Evangelist Michael Trent will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock, Va.
Mr. Meadows, 54, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, in Henry Medical Center in Stockbridge.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Sunday in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel.

Samantha Mullins

CLINTWOOD -- Samantha Mullins, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, the widow of Cowan Mullins and a member of Rachel Chapel Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving are three sons, Alfred Mullins, Bill Mac Mullins and Remire Mullins, all of Clintwood; two daughters, Alta Peak of Lebanon, Ohio, and Ruby Gibson of Wyandotte, Mich.; a brother, Ted Mullins of Coeburn; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Parkis Mullins will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood, Va.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends and a song service conducted at 7 p.m. Monday in Clintwood Funeral Home.

Phyllis W. Nunley

Funeral services for Phyllis Ward Nunley will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Knollkreg Memorial Park by Weaver Funeral Home. The Rev. Gary Garland will officiate.
Mrs. Nunley, 59, of 3357 Avoca Road, Apt. 75, Bristol, Tenn., died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leslie R. Rasnake

ABINGDON -- Graveside services for Leslie Remire Rasnake will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens by Farris Funeral Service. Pastor Eric Godfrey will officiate. military rites will be conducted by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post No. 6975.
Mr. Rasnake, 77, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home or any time at the home of Curtis Rasnake, 11902 Garrett Creek Road, Abingdon.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry J. Ratliff

DAVENPORT, Va. -- Jerry James Ratliff, 60, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home.
He was born in Grundy, a son of Ora Ratliff of Little Prater, Va., and the late Ben Dillard Ratliff. He was a founding member of Cumberland Mountain Boys and a member of the Road to Glory Gospel Group. He attended Tiller Town Free Will Baptist Church.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Janet Blankenship Ratliff; four daughters, Mrs. Marty (Tammy) Stiltner and Mrs. Tim (Robin) Barton, both of Davenport, Va., Mrs. Steve (Renea) Walls of Manassas, Va. and Margaret "Kathy" Ratliff of the home; a son, Jason Dillard Ratliff of the home; a sister, Mrs. Victor (Mabel) Mullins of Slate Creek, Va.; three brothers, Harold Shortridge of Grundy, Wesley Ratliff of Little Prater, Va., and Randy Ratliff of Bland, Va.; two grandsons; and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Kyle Ratliff and Roy Lee Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Hibbitts Cemetery in Grundy.
Mr. Ratliff was also preceded in death by a grandson, Timmy Lenza Barton Jr.
Among survivors are grandsons, James Taylor Walls of Manassas and Jerry Robyn Barton of Davenport; four step-grandchildren, Stevie Walls, Abbie Walls and Nick Walls, all of Manassas, and Derek Barton of Davenport.
Pallbearers will be Michael Blankenship, Kevin Blankenship, Ray Boyd, Jimmie Horn, Lewis Stiltner, Bernard Stiltner, Herman Bostic and Victor Breeding. Honorary pallbearers will be the Cumberland Mountain Boys, Jerry Runyons, Ralph Stanley, Dr. Clinton Sutherland and Dr. Robert Blanton.
Friends may call any time before the funeral in Honaker Funeral Home.
