Juanita Sturgill

BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for Juanita Sturgill will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Tetrick Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Bawgus will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Cemetery in Bristol Virginia. Minister, pallbearers and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to the cemetery.
Mrs. Sturgill, 82, of 1221 Old Elizabethton Highway, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Kentucky, a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Minerva Creech Dixon. She was a member of Tri-City Church of God in Piney Flats and the Bluff City Senior Citizens Center. She was the widow of Evins Foster Sturgill.
Surviving are two sons, Chester Sturgill of Bluff City and Burnice L. Sturgill of Cottage Grove, Minn.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Mrs. Sturgill was also preceded in death by two sisters; and three brothers.
Among survivors are daughters-in-law Eleanore Sturgill of Bluff City and Julia J. Sturgill of Cottage Grove.
The family would like to offer a special thanks to Dr. Istifan, Dr. LeCraw, Dr. Williams and the staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and other times at the home of the son, 1134 Weaver Branch Road in Bluff City.
Tetrick Funeral Home Bluff City Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Martha C. Tester

BLUFF CITY -- Martha L. Carty Tester, of 669 Egypt Road, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Weaver Funeral Home.

Elizabeth M. Whitaker

Funeral services for Elizabeth M. Whitaker will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Euclid Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. Jim Best will officiate. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitaker, 79, of 700 Park St., Bristol, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Tim Buchanan, Stan Wagner, Walter Conley, Bill Thomas, Clyde Rouse and Danny Whitaker. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Stewart, Dr. John Green, Dr. Robert Blanton, Tim Outlaw, Robert Coleman and the men of Euclid Avenue Baptist Church.
Blevins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jack Whittaker

A memorial service for Jack Whittaker will be conducted Tuesday at 7:45 p.m. at the home of Mary "Jerri" Montona, 95 Pace Drive, Bristol, Va. The Rev. Walter L. Statzer will officiate. Friends and family may call at the home after 4 p.m. Tuesday. The body has been sent to Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver.
Mr. Whittaker, 65, of Bristol, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Bristol, a son of the late Harley Millard Whittaker and Margaret Susan Feathers Whittaker. He had lived in Indiana and Washington state for many years, returning to the Bristol area in 1998. He was a former employee of Malcolm's Meat Market.
Surviving are a daughter, Patricia Leonard of North Carolina; three sons, Bryan Whittaker of Bluff City, Greg Whittaker and Bubba Whittaker; three sisters, Katherine Booher of Bristol Tennessee, and Frances Hayter and Mary "Jerri" Montona, both of Bristol Virginia; four brothers, Lewis Whittaker of Bristol Virginia, Gene Whittaker of Cornelius, Ore., and Frank Whittaker and Fred Wittaker, both of Vancouver, Wash.; three grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Blevins Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

William P. Bentley Jr.

CASTLEWOOD -- William Payne Bentley Jr., Route 1, Box 45K, died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000.
He was born in Etty, Ky., a son of the late William Payne Bentley Sr. and Nancy Stewart Bentley. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Big Stone Gap. He attended Hemphill School in Jackhorn, Ky., was a retired coal miner and a machine operator.
Surviving are his wife, Roberta Bentley; a son, Otho Dwayne Bentley of the home; two daughters, Ramona Ann Golden and Melissa Michelle Hammond, both of Coeburn; three brothers, Wilburn Bentley of Virgie, Ky., Ballard Bentley of Neon, Ky., and Ed Bentley of Jackhorn, Ky.; two sisters, Millie Bentley of McRoberts, Ky., and Bonnie Jean Hall of Dean, Ky.; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Church of Christ in Big Stone Gap. The Rev. John Hurley will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park in Coeburn.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in the church.
Nicholson Funeral Home in Statesville, N.C., and Gilliam Funeral Home in Big Stone Gap are in charge of arrangements.

Ethel E. Boyd

BELMONT, Miss. -- Funeral services for Ethel Easter Boyd were be held Sunday in Belmont.
Mrs. Boyd, 79, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, in Red Bay Hospital in Red Bay, Ala.
She was born in Virginia, a daughter of the late Vince and Josie Davis Wilson. She was a housewife and the widow of Guy Boyd. She was a member of Calvary Family Worship Center at Red Bay.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Eddie (Peggy) Hall of Belmont, Mrs. Rick (Brenda) Richter and Mrs. Robert (Aretta) Sullivan, both of Indianapolis; four sisters, Eunice Dunford and Louise Pierce, both of Indianapolis, Ann Stevenson of Graham, N.C., and Betty Booher of Bristol Tennessee; three brothers, Walt Wilson of Saltville, and Andrew Wilson and Edwin Wilson, both of Abingdon; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Deaton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Beulah M. Brown

SPEEDWELL, Va. -- Beulah M. Brown, 70, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
Surviving are her husband, Everett H. Brown; three daughters, Betty Nelson of Honeybrook, Pa., Barbi Kroplesky of Coatesville, Pa., and Linda Stern of Lititz, Pa.; two sons, Eddie Brown of Speedwell and David Brown of East Earl, Pa.; two sisters, Hazel Falkie of Marion and Peggy Johnson of Crozet; three brothers, Eugene Hester of Verona, Ray Hester of Ceres and Rodney Hester of Free Union; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Seaver- Brown Chapel. The Rev. Don Tate will officiate. Burial will be in Roseweood Memorial Gardens in Rural Retreat.
Among survivors is mother-in-law Minnie Brown of Speedwell.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Seaver- Brown Chapel.

Verna R. Bruce

ROANOKE -- Verna Irene Rasnake Bruce, 69, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Chippenham Hospital in Richmond.
She was a daughter of Mildred Rasnake of Bastian and the late Asa Rasnake. She graduated as a registered nurse from St. Mary's Hospital in Huntington, W.Va. She was a retired nursing supervisor from Roanoke Memorial OB-GYN Clinic and a member of Bastian Union Church. She was the widow of Robert Donald Bruce.
Surviving, besides her mother, are a daughter, Jennifer B. Breckinridge of Salem; a son, Gary Donald Bruce of Richmond; a sister, Ila Jean Kitts of Bastian; and two granddaughters.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Bastian Union Church by Newberry Funeral Home in Bland. The Rev. Lee McIntosh and Marion Harris will officiate. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery.
Among survivors are son-in-law Cary Breckinridge of Salem; daughter-in-law Fran Bruce of Richmond; granddaughters Brandi Bruce and Candice Bruce, both of Richmond; brother-in-law Arnold Kitts of Bastian; and a dear friend, Rose Bussey of Salem.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Bastian Union Church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Bastian Union Church or the Bland Rescue Squad.
Newberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas C. Caldwell

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Thomas Charles "T.C." Caldwell will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Bethel Presbyterian Church by Farris Funeral Service. The Revs. Robert Thornton and Earle Barron will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mr. Caldwell of 28170 Minton Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be David Henry Sr., Kyle Reed, Charles Rice, John Roberts Sr., D.L. Stout, John Wright and Rhea Jones. Honorary pallbearers will be John Eden Sr., Fred G. Parker, C.M. Rice and E.P. Widener Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Damascus Volunteer Rescue Squad, 32094 Government Road, Damascus, VA 24236 or the American Lung Association of Virginia, Southwest Region, 1228 W. Main St., P.O. Box 1249, Abingdon, VA 24210.
