Baxter Cook

NORTH TAZEWELL, Va. -- Baxter Cook, 72, of Route 4, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in a Bluefield, W.Va., hospital.
He was born in Cleveland, Va., a son of the late Goffrey and Bessie Wilson Cook. He was a U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army veteran and a member of Barnes-Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell and the Pruner Lodge 254 AF&AM of Honaker. He was of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Baxter Cook Jr. of Meridian, Miss.; three sisters, Leo McCoy and Trula Poskas, both of North Tazewell, and Betty Boyd of Dublin; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Clyde Lambert and Ancil Childress will officiate. Entombment will be in Grandview Memory Gardens Mausoleum on the Bluefield-Tazewell Highway with military honors by Barnes-Beavers VFW Post 7136 of Tazewell.
Mr. Cook was also preceded in death by three brothers, Ed Cook of Honaker, Ellis Cook of Tazewell and an infant brother; and a sister, Marie Cook of Cleveland, Va.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Mary Cook of Meridian; brothers-in-law Mike Poskas of North Tazewell and Byron Boyd of Dublin; and special friend Darlis Maxfield.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Honaker Funeral Home.

Robert P. Davis

CLAYPOOL HILL, Va. -- Funeral services for Robert Paul Davis will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Stafford Compton will officiate. Entombment will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum. Pope Air Force Ceremonials Knights Honor Guard will conduct military services.
Mr. Davis, 70, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at his home.
Pallbearers will be the Pope Air Force Ceremonials Knights Honor Guard and Larry Worrell, Rick Bleivns, Bill Sizemore, Richard Slate, Raymond Brown and Preston Canady. Honorary pallbearers will be W. Ray Compton, Carl E. McAfee, Dr. Emory Robinette, Dr. Maged Farah, Gene Hearl, Lloyd Smith, active and retired U.S. Air Force members worldwide, numerous government officials and co-workers of MSHA at Claypool Hill.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald J. Fields

HONAKER -- Funeral services for Ronald James Fields will be conducted Thursday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. Elders Danny Smith, Darrell Davis and Delford Ward will officiate. Burial will be in White Rose Cemetery near the home.
Mr. Fields, 42, of the Drill section, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Josh Fields, J.B. Powers, David Hurt, Daniel Hurt, Adam Randolph, Tommy Joe McGlothlin, Mike Seale and Eric Stilwell.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Honaker Funeral Home.

Sylvia Ann Hurt

RICHLANDS -- Sylvia Ann Hurt, 88, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in a Richlands hospital.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff.

Geneva M. Mams

WYTHEVILLE -- Geneva Lorraine Myer Mams, 80, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Wythe County Community Hospital.
She was born in Salem, W.Va., a daughter of the late Delbert and Alcinda Norris Myer. She was the widow of Carl F. Mams Sr. and a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis and Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va.
For more than 20 years, she taught school in McDowell County and other West Virginia school systems. After moving to Wytheville in 1964, she taught at Spiller Elementary School until retirement. She was a member of Virginia Retired Teachers Association, St. Mary's Catholic Church and a former member of Wytheville Women's Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Tamera Anne Mams of Denver; a son, Carl Mams Jr. of Lexington, Ky.; a sister, Marvadell Myer of Florida; a brother, Eugene Myer of Severna Park, Md.; and a granddaughter.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Rene Castillo as celebrant. Entombment will be in West End Cemetery Mausoleum.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Linda Mams of Lexington and granddaughter Ashley Nichole Mams of Lexington.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends may call at the home.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association.
Barnett Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Donald A. McGlothlin Sr.

GRUNDY -- Funeral services for Donald Allen McGlothlin Sr. will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Buchanan Funeral Service Chapel at Keen Mountain. The Rev. Ancil Childress will officiate. Graveside services will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock with military honors by John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion.
Mr. McGlothlin, 74, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000.
Pallbearers will be Edwin Bunn, James Bunn, Ronald Cole, Ike Ratliff Jr., Terry Trivett and Fred Walters. Honorary pallbearers will be Hunter Andrews, Nick Persin, Claude Swanson, Victor Breeding, John Bowman, Jack Buchanan, Ed Grimsley, Rufus "Bud" Harman, Dr. Thomas McDonald, Russell Presley and W.H. Trivett.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Donald Allen McGlothlin Sr. Scholarship Fund, c//o Carl Puckett, Trustee, Dent K. Burk Associates, P.C., 513 State St., P.O. Box 129, Bristol, VA 24203-0129.
Buchanan Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Doris A. Minton

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Doris Aven Minton will be conducted Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. in Bethel Presbyterian Church by Campbell Funeral Home. The Revs. Robert Thornton and Earle Barron will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery.
Mrs. Minton, 87, of the Bethel community, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and a daughter of the late Grover and Louise Aven. She was the widow of Raymond C. Minton. She was educated at Martha Washington College, Virginia Intermont College and four other colleges. She was a teacher in the Washington County School System for 37 years. Mrs. Minton was a volunteer in area organizations and was named Volunteer of the Year in 1992 by both United Way and the American Cancer Society.
She was president of Martha Washington Alumnae and served on the Board of Directors of Emory & Henry Alumni Association. She was a member of Abingdon Senior Citizens and the American Cancer Society. She was a past board member of Big Brother//Big Sister, the Washington County Fair and Burley Festival, the BPW and Extension Homemakers. She was a lifelong member of Bethel Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are three sisters, June Elizabeth M. Smith, Winston-Salem, N.C., Ruth Ann M. Henry of Abingdon and Betty Gene Minton of Ruckersville; two sisters, Gene A. Seals of Matthews, N.C., and Lila A. Smith of Abingdon; a brother, Max Aven of Greenville, Ala.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Among survivors are son-in-law David Henry; sister-in-law Mary M. Caldwell; brother-in-law Harry Minton; grandchildren Britton Smith of Kernersville, N.C., Bill Smith of High Point, N.C., David Henry Jr. of Abingdon and Will Henry of Morristown, N.J.; and great-grandchildren Davis Smith, Ray Smith and Alexander Smith, all of North Carolina, and Hannah Henry of Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Bob Seal Jr., Curt Cook, Wallace E. Smith, Tim Smith, Tom Caldwell, Billy Caldwell, Johnny Aven, Blair Keller Jr. and Tony Fritz.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Campbell Funeral Home.

Gladys Jones Morton

Gladys Jones Morton, 85, of Bristol Tennessee died Monday, Feb. 2l, 2000, in NHC.
She was a daughter of the late William M. and Susie Jones and had spent most of her life in the Bristol area. She retired from Sperry Cafeteria and was a member of Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, where she served in the United Methodist Women. She was the widow of Paul W. Morton.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan E. Morton of Bristol Tennessee; a son, Larry Morton of Bristol Tennessee; a granddaughter, Amy Alvey of Jackson; a grandson, Randall P. Morton of Bristol Virginia; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Randall P. Morton and Laura Rasor will officiate. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Glenwood Cemetery.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Patsy Morton of Bristol Tennessee; grandson-in-law Bob Alvey of Jackson; granddaughter-in-law Robin Morton of Bristol Virginia; great-grandchildren Meredith Alvey, Rob Alvey, Emily Morton and Caleb Morton; and several in-laws.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Arnold, Phil Parris, Jim Smith, Bob Alvey, Dr. Phil Longus, Harry Whisnant and Brandon Whisnant.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday prior to the service in Weaver Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church, 1127 Virginia Ave., Bristol, TN 37620.

Warren B. Muzzleman

BANDY, Va. -- Funeral services for Warren Blake Muzzleman will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Revs. Sam Altizer and Danny Starling will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill with military rites by Casey Shortt VFW Post 9640 and Tazewell County Chapter 31 DAV.
Mr. Muzzleman, 79, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, in a Bluefield, W.Va., hospital.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Singleton Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Vivian L. Necessary

BLOUNTVILLE -- Graveside services for Vivian Deleen Leonard Necessary will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in East Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Necessary, 80, of 352 Highway 75, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late Samuel and Hesbia Leonard, a homemaker and a former employee with Bristol Memorial Hospital. She was a member of Charity Baptist Church and the widow of W. Lester Necessary.
Surviving are three sons, Charles L. "Chuck" Necessary of Blountville, Harold D. Necessary of Chipley, Fla., and Jack L. Necessary of Bristol Tennessee; a daughter, Teresa "Terri" Carr of Kingsport; two sisters, Violet Keyees of Maryville, Tenn., and Norma Feagins of Pittsburg, Kan.; five brothers, Trenton Leonard of Bristol Tennessee, Sam Leonard of Houston, Alaska, Winfred Leonard of Clyde, N.C., Bill Leonard of Drew, Miss., and Don Leonard of Chipley; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Among survivors are daughters-in-law Donna Necessary and Teresa Necessary; and son-in-law Bobby Carr.
Pallbearers will be Chip Necessary, Chad Necessary, Brandon Eanes, Casey Carr, Seth Necessary and Ken Segrest. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Keyees, Michael Dean, Stanley Hodges, Tim Vickers, Ted Williams, Gray Taylor, Hank Green, Larry Smith, John Hardin, Jack Ketron and friends and neighbors.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Charity Baptist Church, 123 Oak St., Blountville, TN.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edgar A. Nooning Sr.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Edgar A. Nooning Sr., 77, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, in Jewish Hospital.
He was born in Pittsburgh. He was a retired die sinker for the old International Harvester Co. and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church.
Surviving are five sons, Thomas, Edgar Jr., Gerald, John and William Nooning; four daughters, Marian Mingen, Catherine Nooning, Elizsabeth Eaton and Nora Rogers; a sister, Olive Jones; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Thursday in Louisville.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Karen M. Nooning; granddaughter, Erin Whiteaker; and special great-grandson Zachary Whiteaker.
Nunnelley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
