William U. Baker

William Utah Baker, 77, of 14031 Sinking Creek Road, Bristol, Va., died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
He was born in Dante, Va., and had lived in War, W.Va., before moving to Bristol where he lived most of his life. He was a truck driver and member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Mildred "Polly" Baker; a daughter, Sandra Williams of Piney Flats, Tenn.; a brother, Robert Dickenson of Bristol Virginia; three grandsons, Todd Norris, Chris Norris and Eli Rose; and a great-granddaughter, Rhea Christian Norris.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Howard Robinson will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by a son, Carlos Utah Baker; and a daughter, Carol B. Rose.
Among survivors are sons-in-law Don Williams and Bob Rose.
Pallbearers will be Gene Allen Conner, Eddie Conner, Freddy King, Eddie Carter, Stan Cook and Ted Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be drivers from Roadway Express of White Pine, Tenn.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends may call any time at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wellmont Hospice House, 280 Steele's Road, Bristol, Tenn.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Crystal R. Breeding

LEBANON -- Crystal Gayle Roberts Breeding, 21, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Russell County, a daughter of Rodney W. and Donna Farmer Roberts of Lebanon. She attended Green Valley Baptist Church and was a 1977 graduate of Lebanon High School.
Surviving, besides her parents, are her husband, Gary J. Breeding; a daughter, Deanna Paige Breeding of the home; a sister, Jessica Jolene Osborne of Lebanon; grandmother, Jeri Farmer of Lebanon; and great-grandmother, Bertha Farmer.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Darrell Fletcher and Tom Edwards will officiate. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Breeding was preceded in death by grandfather A.C. Farmer.
Among survivors are her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ronald and Sue Breeding of Cleveland, Va.
Pallbearers will be Stephen Osborne Jr., James Phillips, Michael Phillips, Sidney Helton, Jeff Woods and Ashley Young. Honorary pallbearer will be Samuel E. Harrison.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Sunday in Lebanon Funeral Home.

Ruby G. Butler

BLUFF CITY -- Ruby Dean Grayson Randolph Butler, 87, of 167 Elm Lane died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
She was born in Watauga County, N.C., a daughter of the late J. Luke Grayson and Bulah Johnson. She was a graduate of Appalachian State Teachers College and taught for 40 years, most recently at Thomas Jefferson in Bristol Virginia and Avoca in Bristol Tennessee before retirement. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Lloyd K. Butler; two daughters, Johnnie R. Barnette of Bluff City and Pamela J. Randolph of Mountain City, Tenn.; three brothers, Brandon Eggers of Zionville, N.C., Frank Grayson of Mountain City and Jim Grayson of Bluff City; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private. The Rev. John Thrasher will officiate.
Mrs. Butler was also preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Randolph; two sisters, Mary Sue Dishman and Jean Grayson; and a brother Stacy Grayson.
Among survivors are grandchildren Richard Barnette and Anthony Barnette; son-in-law Tony Barnette; great-grandchildren Grayson, Samuel and Alexandria Barnette; sisters-in-law Dorothy Bowman and Rachel Eggers; brothers-in-law Mack Dishman and George Randolph; and a special friend, Doug Dorschug.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Johnson City Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Richard Barnette, Anthony Barnette and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that flowers be sent to your loved ones, or memorial contributions may be sent to a charity of choice.
Oakley-Cook Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

R. Ross Collins

KINGSPORT -- R. Ross Collins of 2017 Sherwood Road, died in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Surgoinsville, Tenn. He had resided in Kingsport most of his life and retired from Dobyns-Taylor. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 688 F&AM, a 50-year member of the Masons, a member of Kingsport Moose Lodge and the United Commercial Travelers. He was a member of First Broad Street United Methodist Church and the Dobyns Sunday School Class.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Tate Collins of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel, downtown. The Rev. Joe-d DowlingSoka will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Collins was preceded in death by two sisters, Mabel Roller and Lois Fleenor; and a brother, C.R. Collins Jr.
Pallbearers will be Mack Byington, Jim Reeves, Tom Winstead, Bob Slagle, Bill Carmack and Gerald Winstead. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Dobyns Sunday School Class, special friends, Breakfast Group, Claude Hoover and Olan Jones.
The family will receive friends from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday in Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Holston United Methodist Home for Children, P.O. Box 188, Greeneville, TN 37743.

Myrtle Cowden

NORTON -- Funeral services for Myrtle Jones Cowden will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Hagy Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Cowden, 68, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Hagy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lettie Fleenor

KINGSPORT -- Lettie Fleenor, 59, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000.
She was a daughter of the late William and Annie Mae Musser. She was a member of Cedar Creek Independent Missionary Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Charles "Charlie" Fleenor; a daughter, Tammy Frost of Church Hill, Tenn.; two sons, Tommy Fleenor of Kingsport and Ricky Fleenor of Bristol Tennessee; five sisters; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown. Pastors Jackie Bradley and Donald Denton will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Fleenor was also preceded in death by a brother.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.

Melvin Thomas Garrett

Entombment for Melvin Thomas "Tom" Garrett will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Abingdon.
Mr. Garrett, 44, of Bristol Tennessee died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, at his home.
Honorary pallbearers will be Buck Snyder, Billy Jack Trivett, Bill White, Jamie Clark, Don Carmack and Tim Broyles.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Harriett Gregory

HONAKER -- Funeral services for Harriet Edna Ramey Gregory will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ralph Bostic and pastor Larry Brooks will officiate. Burial will be in Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon.
Mrs. Gregory, 88, of the New Garden Road section, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in a Lebanon hospital.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Slate, Mike Dye, Raymond Conley, Harold Gregory, Jerry Hess and John Andrews. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Gregory, Jim McGlothlin, Ron Jackson, the Rev. Lawrence Harrison and William R. Young.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Flora Dickenson Hensdill

FAIRFIELD, Pa. -- Funeral services for Flora Dickenson Hensdill will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Keith Williams will officiate. Burial will be in Knollkreg Memorial Park in Abingdon.
Nrs. Hensdill, 94, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2000, in Brethren Home community.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service Sunday in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel.

Nora D. Howell

LEBANON -- Nora Lee Dorton Howell, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a duaghter of the late Joseph and Minnie Etta Statzer Dorton. She was a teacher in the public schools of Floyd and Pulaski counties and retired from Russell County Schools. She was a 75-year member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Katherine H. Powers of Lebanon; three sons, James A. Howell of Graham, N.C., Allan Garrett Howell of Acme, Pa., and Larry Lee Howell of Greensboro, N.C.; a sister, Frances Dorton Jackson of Lebanon; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Russell County Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Chris Musick and Earnest Jessee will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Howell was also preceded in death by two sons, Grover C. Howell Jr. and William E. Howell; and a grandson, William Charles Howell.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Russell County Funeral Home.
