Ronald P. VanDyke

RICHLANDS -- Ronald P. Vandyke, 49, of 221 Bryan Lane, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
He was born in Richlands, a son of C.B. and Dorothy McGlothlin VanDyke of Honaker. He had lived in Richlands for the past nine years, moving there from Honaker, and was a member of Pisgah Holiness Church. He served in the U.S. for three years and was former owner of Ron's Motors at Swords Creek and VanDyke Trucking Co.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Mary Ruth Robinson VanDyke; three daughters, Mrs. Dean (Rhonda) Thomason of Claypool Hill, Mrs. Steve (Christy) Bunker of Bluefield, Va., and Teresa Marie VanDyke of the home; a brother, Jack VanDyke of Rosedale; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Michael D. Altizer, Phillip Deane and Roger Boyd will officiate. Entombment will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Claypool Hill with military rites in the mausoleum chapel by Casey Shortt VFW Post 9640 of Richlands and DAV Chapter 31 of Tazewell County.
Among survivors are grandchildren Skylar Brett VanDyke, Mary Grace Thomason, Ronald Dean Thomason, Benjamin Patton Thomason and Austin Tyler Bunker.
Pallbearers will be Larry Hagy, Larry Worrell, Lanny Moore, Albert Stilwell, Bobby Joe Clark, Dexter Dye, John Grounds and Warren Radford.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harry R. White

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Harry Ramsey "Red" White, 82, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Moses Cone Extended Care.
He was born in Cincinnati, spent most of his life in Greensboro, N.C., and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was employed with Dillard Paper Co. for 53 years.
Surviving are his wife, Catherine "Catty" Webb White; four sons, Harry Ramsey White Jr. of Abingdon, John Webb White of San Francisco, Thorne Nicholson White of Aluchia, Fla., and David Reid White of Greensboro; a grandson; and three granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Monday in North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Boys and Girls Home of North Carolina, P.O. Box 127, Lake Waccamaw, NC 28450 or to a charity of choice.
Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Kelly W. Wright Sr.

COEBURN -- Kelly William Wright Sr., 87, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Health South Rehabilitation Hospital in Kingsport.
He was a son of the late William Floyd Wright Sr. and Ethel A. Kerley. He was a retired miner and a member of UMWA District 28. He was a 50-year member of Coeburn Masonic Lodge 97 AF&AM, IOOF High Latham Lodge 107 and the National Rifle Association. He was of the Methodist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Metcalf Wright; a son, Kelly W. Wright Jr. of Coeburn; three brothers, Frank Sanford Wright of Virginia Beach, William Floyd Wright Jr. of Norfolk and James Wright of Virginia; six sisters, Ruth O'Dell of Atlanta, Myrle Esther Hall of Miamisburg, Ohio, Bernice Alice Hobbs of Richlands, Minnie Helen Walker of Dayton, Ohio, Anna Scott Hylton of Lambric, Ky., and Barbara Albrecht of Tipps City, Ohio; a grandson; a granddaugther; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John McCarroll will officiate. Burial will be at 1 p.m. in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Richlands.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, where Masonic services will be held at 8 p.m. by Coeburn Masonic Lodge 97 AF&AM.
Sturgill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fred W. Crumley

ABINGDON -- Fred W. Crumley, 69, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Green Springs Rest Home.
He was born in Bristol, a son of Fred W. and Margaret Harkleroad Crumley. He had lived in New York for many years. Upon returning to this area, he served as minister of music at St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon and organist at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Bristol. He was organist emeritus at St. John Lutheran Church. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State and Union Theological Seminary and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
There are no surviving family members.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church in Abingdon. The Rev. Frank G. Honeycutt will officiate.
Mr. Crumley was also preceded in death by a sister, Joy Crumley.
Among survivors are many friends within the community. He leaves behind his constant companion, his dog, Sarah.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. John Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 657, Abingdon, VA 24212.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Angela Delp

BIG STONE GAP -- Angela Delp died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Gilliam Funeral Home.

Fred R. Edens Sr.

Johnson CITY - Dr. Fred R. Edens Sr., 76, of 4118 Aztec Drive, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
He was born in Big Stone Gap, a son of Eva Wells Fischer of Norton and the late John Houston Edens. He had lived in Johnson City since 1975. He was a general practitioner in Sullivan Gardens from 1953-59 and practiced dermatology in Johnson City from 1975 until his retirement in 1988. He was a retired captain in the U.S. Navy, with 30 years of service, including World War II.
He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church in Johnson City.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Nina M. Edens; five sons, Fred Ray Edens Jr. and J. Wesley Edens, both of Johnson City, John Ed Edens of Gray, Tenn., and Christopher A. Edens and Timothy S. Edens, both of Bluff City; a daughter, Theresa A. Jelley of Johnson City; his stepfather, Joe Fischer of Norton; nine grandchildren; two nephews; and a niece.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the East Chapel of Appalachian Funeral Home. The Revs. Maurice Lay and Anthony Mills will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Washington County Memory Gardens with full military honors. Those planning to attend the graveside services are to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday to proceed to the cemetery.
Dr. Edens was also preceded in death by a half-sister.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday in Appalachian Funeral Home Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 918, Johnson City, TN 37601.

Cindy Fritts

Ethel "Cindy" Taylor Harless Fritts, 62, of Bristol Tennessee died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Scott County, Va., a daughter of the late Patrick and Ida Hill. She had lived in Bristol Tennessee for the past 28 years.
Surviving are four daughters, Charlotte Blevins of Bluff City, Cynthia Winters and Lisa Mumpower, both of Bristol Virginia and Sonya Taylor of the home; four sons, James Taylor, Jackie Taylor and Jeffrey Taylor, all of Bristol Tennessee, and Shawn Harless of Piney Flats; two sisters, Geneva Jennings and Brilla Calton, both Clinchport, Va.; three brothers, Thurman Hill, Cecil Hill and Frank Hill, all of Clinchport; 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. Mike Able and Roger Carter will officiate. Burial will be in Crumley Cemetery.
Mrs. Fritts was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Hill.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Dollar, Ricky Depew, Ralph Fleenor, Jabbo Fleenor, Wayne Mumpower and Doug Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Connally, Donny Hatcher, Don Wheeler, Randy Wheeler and Dr. David Gwaltney.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Weaver Funeral Home.

Ruth M. Jessee

MEADOWVIEW -- Funeral services for Ruth Marie Jessee will be conducted Monday at 4 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Tim Graham and Bill Graybeal will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Mrs. Jessee, 71, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Leo Mabe

Funeral services for Leo H. Mabe will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Raymond Ross will officiate. Burial will be in the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn., with military honors by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 of Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Mabe, 73, of Bristol Tennessee, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, at his home.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home or other times at the home of the Rev. Raymond and Martha Ross, Valley Drive, Blountville.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Trula P. Meyer

CYRSTAL LAKE, Ill. -- Trula Phipps Meyer, 55, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Memorial Center in Woodstock.
She grew up in Bristol, a daughter of the late Hugh and Ardella Young Phipps. She was a 1962 graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School and Virginia Intermont College. In 1965, She was employed as a flight attendant for United Airlines based in Washington, D.C., and Miami.
Surviving are her husband, Dave T. Meyer; a daughter, Mrs. James (Lori) Thome of Algonquin; a son, Michael Meyer of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Nancy Phipps of Johnson City, Tenn.; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Dec. 17 in Crystal Lake.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Holly.
Among survivors are grandchildren Jacob and Ariel Thome; a cousin, Dorothy Stevenson of Bristol Tennessee; uncle Donald Phipps of Bristol Virginia; and many very dear friends.
Memorial contributions may be sent to the March of Dimes.

John E. Osborne

BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for John Eugene Osborne will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Howard Campbell will officiate. Graveside services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Rooty Branch Cemetery.
Mr. Osborne, 90, of 429 Old Thomas Bridge Road, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Holston Valley, Tenn., and had lived all his life in Bluff City and Blountville. He was a retired groundskeeper at Glenwood and Shelby Hills cemeteries and later employed with Simerly Concrete Products. He was also a farmer and a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Julia K. Osborne; a daughter, Mary Sue Phillips of Bluff City; five sons, John Osborne Jr. of Kennesaw, Ga., Richard Osborne of Kingsport, James Osborne of Bluff City, Billy Osborne of Bristol Tennessee and Danny Osborne of Meadowview; eight grandchildren; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Osborne was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Jane Osborne.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Monday before the chapel service in the funeral home or other times at the home.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
