Oliver Rose

CASTLEWOOD -- Graveside services for Oliver "Jr." Rose will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. The Rev. John A. Kiser will officiate.
Mr. Rose, 70, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be Larry Woods, Travis Woods, Dwayne Aldridge, Lee Hammons, Dennis Fraley, Robbie Rose, Jason Clark, Skipper Proffitt and Kevin Proffitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray Woods, Anthony Woods, Mark Woods, Howard Woods and Bill Wampler.
The family will receive friends after 11 a.m. Monday in Castlewood Funeral Home.

Eula R. Shell

BIG STONE GAP -- Eula M. Rhoton Shell, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 1999, in Johnson City Medical Center.
She had lived in Johnson City for the past 25 years, moving from Big Stone Gap. She was a homemaker and the widow of Thurman Shell.
Surviving are a son, Ron Rhoton of Clarksville, Tenn.; a stepson, Carroll Shell of Piney Flats; two daughters, Cookie Huff of Johnson City and Charmaine Phillips of Big Stone Gap; a brother, Albert Elliott of Big Stone Gap; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 14 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Hagan McClellan, pastor of East Pine Grove Park United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Gilliam Funeral Home.

Paul Stanley

COEBURN -- Paul Stanley, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Norton Community Hospital.
He was a son of the late Egbert and Georgia Cochran Stanley, a retired UMWA coal miner and a member of Local Union 1098. He was a member of Rachel Chapel Freewill Baptist Church and Dickenson County Fox Hunters Club. He was the widower of Sis Blevins Stanley and Mary Hartsock Stanley.
Surviving are five sons, Allen Lee Stanley of Ringgold, Ga., Paul Ray Stanley, Kenneth Reed Stanley and Rickey Stanley, all of Coeburn, and Jerry Wayne Stanley of Clintwood; five daughters, Beulah Mae Marshall of Coeburn, Rosella Harris of Orlando, Fla., Patty Sue Cass of Rockford, Ill., Virginia Weidig of Davenport, Fla., and Connie Babb of Church Hill, Tenn.; three brothers, Herbert Stanley, McKinley "Stan" Stanley and Hobart "Big Pap" Stanley, all of Coeburn; five sisters, Nina Stanley, Martha June Hamilton, Bertha Stanley and Sarah Belle Rose, all of Coeburn, and Pauline Stanley of Norton; 37 grandchildren; and 40 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Rachel Chapel Freewill Baptist Church by Clintwood Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Phipps and Lester Mullins will officiate. Burial will be in Paul Stanley Cemetery, Route 2, Coeburn.
Mr. Stanley was also preceded in death by a daughter, Reda Gale Stanley; three brothers, Ted Stanley, Emory Ray Stanley and Billy Stanley; two sisters, Polly Ann Stanley and Mary Jane Stanley; and a great-grandchild, Carl Dylan Lyall.
Among survivors are daughters-in-law Kay Stanley of Ringgold, Dorothy Stanley and Debbie Stanley and Sandy Stanley, all of Coeburn, and Colleen Stanley of Clintwood; and sons-in-law Banner Marshall of Coeburn, John Harris of Orlando, Jerry Cass of Rockford, Larry Weidig of Davenport and Darrell Babb of Church Hill.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be sons-in-law.
The body will be taken to the church at 5 p.m. Monday, where friends may call. There will be services in the church Monday at 7 p.m.
Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Renda M. Stevens

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Renda F. Montgomery Stevens will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Denton Valley Baptist Church. The Revs. Timothy Stevens and Floyd Nelson will officiate. Burial will be Montgomery Cemetery.
Mrs. Stevens, 91, of 481 Bradley St., died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000.
Pallbearers will be Everett Stevens, Charles Stevens, C.H. Denton, Sam Price, Lewis Montgomery, Carroll Howard, Tom BaumGardner and Larry Rowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Virgil A. Motley, Dr. David H. Smith, Dr. William J. Baker, Lewis Heniger, Shannon Denton and Herbert Widener.
Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Diana T. Thomas

HAYSI, Va. -- Funeral services for Diana T. Thomas will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Haysi Funeral Home. The Rev. Danny Sluss will officiate. Burial will be in Thacker Cemetery, Route 1, Haysi.
Mrs. Thomas, 44, died Friday, Dec. 31, 1999, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Viers

PAYNESVILLE, W.Va. -- Raymond Viers, 81, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, in a Bluefield, W.Va., hospital.
He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late Josh and Mattie Griffith Viers. He was a member of UMWA Local 7327 District 28 and the widower of Lillie Keene Viers.
Surviving are nine sons, Lewis Viers, Freddie Viers and Ralph Viers, all of Paynesville, Clarence Viers and Josh Viers, both of Patterson, Va.; Rufus Viers of Pilgrim Knob, Va., Berlin Viers of Clifton Fork, Va., Jimmy Viers of Tazewell, Va., and Tommy Hess of Grundy; seven daughters, Mary Jane Stacy and Patsy Daniels, both of Grundy, Florence Mullins and Brenda Vance, both of Paynesville, June Sweeney of Tazewell, Lois Blankenship of Harman, Va., and Judy Dale of Richlands; 33 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Maple Grove Church of Christ in Keen Ridge Road, Va., by Buchanan Funeral Service of Keen Mountain, Va. Hobart Kennedy and Burb Rife, pastors, will officiate. Burial will be in Noah Stewart Cemetery in Keen Ridge Road, Va.
Mr. Viers was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday in the church.
Buchanan Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mattie E. Watson

Mattie Easter Watson, 97, of 213 Wallace Lane, Bristol, Tenn., died Wednesday, Dec. 29, 1999, at her home.
She was born in Bristol. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are a son, Eldridge F. Watson of White Lake, S.D.; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Carl Cox will officiate.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Don E. Wornser

CHILHOWIE -- Don E. Wornser, 46, formerly of Daytona Beach, Fla., died Saturday, Jan. 2, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was the son of Art and Crossette Goebel of Hendersonville, N.C.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Carol Lester Wornser; two daughters, Sandra Griffin of Chilhowie and Tabetha Spradling of Daytona, Fla.; three brothers, Paul Goebel and Bruce Goebel, both of Illinois, and Mark Goebel of Port Orange, Fla.; his grandmother, Teresa Germann of Hendersonville; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no services.
Among survivors are grandchildren Kimberly and Brandon Griffin of Chilhowie; and son-in-law William Griffin of Chilhowie.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at their home, 114 Town Springs Road, Chilhowie.
D.R. Henderson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia Wright

ST. PAUL -- Virginia Wright, 76, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Wise County. She was the widow of the Rev. Hobert Wright.
Surviving are four daughters, Peggy Hillman of Laquinta, Calif., Brenda Strong of St. Paul, Glenna Osborne of Cadiz, Ohio, and Carol Hall of St. Paul; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. John McFalls and Harold Shortridge will officiate. Burial will be in Brewer Cemetery in St. Paul.
Mrs. Wright was also preceded in death by a son, Jackie Allen Wright; and a daughter, Lois Jean Wright.
Among survivors are three adopted daughters, Bernice Hill, Dorothy Burke and Edith Hayes, all of St. Paul.
Pallbearers will be Ernie Keith, Kelly Chafin, John Henry Johnson, Bobby Hill, Vearl Hileman and David Hileman.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Castlewood Funeral Home.

Sena J. Akers

MEADOWVIEW -- Sena Johnson Akers, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000, at her home.
She was born in River Bridge community, a daughter of the late D.J. and Mary Jane Johnson. She had lived all of her life in the Lindell community. She was the widow of Roosevelt Akers, of the Methodist faith and a former member of Yellow Springs Home Demonstration Club. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are a sister, Hattye J. Counts of Abingdon; six nephews; and 10 nieces.
Graveside services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. in Knollkreg Memorial Park by Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. The Rev. Wayne Parsons will officiate.
Mrs. Akers was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nettie J. Henderson and Lillian J. Steele; and four brothers, Walker Johnson, Harlow Johnson, Lester Johnson and Ervin Johnson.
Among survivors is a foster family member, Mary Jane Henderson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Clinch Valley Volunteer Fire Department.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.
