Bernard R. Hays

SPENCER, W.Va. -- Bernard Reading Hays, 90, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Roane General Hospital.
He was born in Arnoldsburg, W.Va., a son of the late George Warren and Myrtle Reading Hays. He served as director of Traders Bank for 38 years, was vice-president from 1977-81 and remained as director emeritus upon retirement.
He was founder of Hays & Co., and served as chairman of Roane County Democrat Executive Committee during Gov. Okey Patterson's administration. He was a member of the State Building Committee and served as state executive board member for the 4th District. He was named Roane County Democrat in 1988.
He served 11 years on the Roane General Hospital Board of Directors, where he was a vice president.
He was a veteran of World War II, a member of Spencer State Guard Unit prior to serving in the armed forces, and taught school in Calhoun County. He attended Shephard College.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Johnson Custer Hays; a brother, Ross Hays of Tampa, Fla.; two nieces; two nephews; 15 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home. The Revs. Larry Albright and Randy Whited will officiate. Burial will be in Eventide Cemetery in Spencer.
Among survivors are nieces, Carol Ann Odum of Bristol Tennessee and Barbara Hays Tebay of Parkersburg, W.Va.; two nephews, Roessing Hays of Tampa and Robert Hays of Hartsville, S.C.; and a very special friend, Huck Hardman of Spencer.
Mr. Hays, who was active in politics, was known as a gentleman, never forgetting to tip his hat. He was a humanitarian and a philanthropist.
He was founder of Hays & Co. which began business in 1953 as a proprietorship and was incorporated in 1955 to serve the independent oil and gas industry.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 .m. Friday in Taylor-Vandale Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Skilled Nursing Facility, Roane General Hospital, 200 Hospital Drive, Spencer, WV 25276, where he was hospitalized for the past two and a half years and received much loving care.

John D. Jackson

Funeral services for John Daniel "Danny" Jackson will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Valley View Baptist Church by Weaver Funeral Home. The Revs. Kenneth Widner and Lewis Dye will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery.
Mr. Jackson, 28, of 19585 Pairgin Road, Bristol, Va., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Hale, Joey Hale, Keith Taylor, Phil Dowell, Gregg Jackson and Wayne Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will be Freddy Jackson, Billy Thomas III, Jason Able, Harold Hall, Bobby Harless, Bobby Taylor and Bradley Harless.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mary L. Lane

TAZEWELL COUNTY, Va. -- Mary L. Lane, 81, of the Wardell section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in a Tazewell hospital.
She was born in McDowell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Mattie Smith Lamie. She was the widow of Orbin Lane.
Surviving are a son, Harry L. Browning of Lorain, Ohio; two stepsons, Leonard Lane and Fred Lane, both of Fall Branch, Tenn; five sisters, Leona Stanley of Narrows, Va., Lettie Smith of Lorain, Nadine Secton of Meadowview, Eva Justice of Kentucky and Betty Kennedy of Welch, W.Va.; two brothers, John K. Lamie of Jewell Valley, Va., and Howard Lamie of Lorain; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff. Evangelist Clarence Stiltner will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va.
Mrs. Lane was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Gene Browning; a grandson, Dennis Lee Browning; and a stepdaughter, Shelby Jean Baldree.
Among survivors is an adopted daughter, Donna Haefer of Lorain.
Mrs. Lane enjoyed raising beautiful flowers and loved fishing.
Pallbearers will be friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in Singleton Funeral Service.

Robert L. McFaddin

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Robert Lee McFaddin will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Campbell Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Leonard Smith and Mark McFaddin will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military honors by VFW Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975.
Mr. McFaddin, 79, of 16166 Richardson Ave., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Robert E. Peters, Kenneth Long, Andy Hall, R.C. Miller, Zane Pierce, Billy Joe Blevins, Eddie McConnell and Richard Duncan. Honorary pallbearers will be Reelia Watson, physicians of Highlands Internal Medicine and Dr. James W. Denton.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Carvosso United Methodist Church, 19429 Rustic Lane, Abingdon, VA 24210.
Campbell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

William Nash

DEARBORN, Mich. -- Funeral services for William "Bill" Nash will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Johnny Kiser will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Nash, 85, died Monday, Jan. 3, 1000, in a Dearborn hospital.
Lebanon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Mae Porchie

BIG STONE GAP -- Edna Mae Porchie, 78, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at her home.
She lived most of her life in Big Stone Gap, was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith. She was a member of First Assembly of God and the widow of Joseph Porchie.
Surviving are a son, Jim Porchie of Big Stone Gap; a daughter, Dorothy Sue Fritz of Big Stone Gap; a brother, Robert Weatherly of Appalachia; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in First Assembly of God in Big Stone Gap by Gilliam Funeral Home. The Rev. Rick Whitten will officiate. Burial will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Martha C. Presnell

Graveside services for Martha C. Presnell will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Florence Union Cemetery.
Mrs. Presnell, 56, of 346 Deck Valley Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
Honorary pallbearers will be Cbarles Gates, Walter Thomas, Carl Durham, Charles Eades, Ed Moody, Billy Kerns, Rick Kerns, Jay Chesnut and Mike Martin.
Weaver Funeral Home Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

John D. Ratliff Jr.

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for John Dewey Ratliff Jr. will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Grundy Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelist Michael Trent will officiate. Burial will be in Ratliff Family Cemetery on Deskins, Vansant, with full military rites by members of John Ratliff Post 164 of the American Legion.
Mr. Ratliff, 78, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000, in Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News, Va.
He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late John Dewey and Buggie Looney Ratliff. He had lived in Buchanan County several years before moving to Pennsylvania and Abingdon. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II in the 91st Infantry Division, serving in the European Theater. He was a retired employee of the Army Depot in Tobyhanna, Pa., and the widower of Mary Agnes Mooney Ratliff.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary Jean Wiley of Southhampton, Pa., and Charlene Bearden of Gambrills, Md.; a son, Paul Ratliff of Hayes, Va.; four sisters, Virginia Boyd of Vansant, Tora Latragna and Lorene Jantzen, both of Bristol Virginia, and Loretta Albert of Annapolis, Md.; six brothers, Curtis E. Ratliff and Frank H. Ratliff, both of Abingdon, Ralph C. Ratliff of Rosedale, Ray Ratliff of Bristol Virginia, Clinton G. Ratliff of Vansant and Claude Ratliff of Falls Church; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Mr. Ratliff was also preceded in death by two sisters, Faye and Ruth Ratliff.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Ratliff, James Ratliff, Butch Bearden, Jim Ratliff, Bryan Ratliff and Jeffery Wiley.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel, where a service will be held at 7 p.m.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Noah Reynolds

VANSANT -- Noah "Node" Reynolds, 71, of the Leemaster section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late Noah Reynolds and Margaret Lester Reynolds. He was a member of Guiding Light Freewill Baptist Church and a retired coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Belle Sparks Reynolds of Richlands; three daughters, Mrs. Mack (Jean) Ratliff of Vansant, Mrs. Raymond (Linda Sue) Clevinger of Grundy and Sherry Looney of Richlands; two sons, Monty Lee Reynolds of Maxie, Va., and Kenney Reynolds of Grundy; a sister, Georgie Richie of Texas City, Texas; two brothers, Robert Reynolds of Bristol Tennessee and Isacc Reynolds of South Carolina; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home in Grundy. The Revs. Ronnie Sliger, James Chapman and Eddie Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.
Mr. Reynolds was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tina Reynolds; and eight brothers and sisters.
Among survivors are daughters-in-law, Ginger Reynolds of Maxie and Sherry Reynolds of Grundy.
Pallbearers will be Duke Ratliff, Brent Ratliff, Larry McClanahan, Derek Reynolds, Erick McClanahan, Heath McClanahan, Kenney Reynolds Jr., Chris Reynolds, Ray Clevinger and Chad Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Hess, Ronnie Sliger, Hurley Meadows, Mack Ratliff, James Paul Ratliff, Raymond Clevinger, Wallace Caperton and Verner Lester. Flowergirls will be Angie Reynolds and Mandy Reynolds.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home, where services will be held at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daisy Reynolds

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- Graveside services for Daisy Reynolds will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell by Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands. The Rev. Eddie Noe will officiate.
Mrs. Reynolds, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Westside Baptist Church, 3361 South Jenkins Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981, or Cedar Bluff United Methodist Church, Box 209, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609.
