Buford Baker

BIG STONE GAP -- Buford Baker, 86, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, at the home of his son.
He lived most of his life in Big Stone Gap, was a member of West End Baptist Church and was formerly employed with Stonega Coal & Coke Co., Robinette Steel and the town of Big Stone Gap.
Surviving are five sons, Roscoe Baker, Dickie Baker and Hobert Baker, all of Big Stone Gap, Randy Baker of Smiths, Ala., and Junior Fannon of Lee County, Va.; two daughters, Helen Horton of Lumpkin, Ga., and Beth Collins of Continental, Ohio; a sister, Florey Seymore of Knoxville; 36 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 7 p.m. in West End Baptist Church by Gilliam Funeral Home. The Rev. Garry Arnett of West End Baptist Church will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in American Legion Cemetery in Big Stone Gap.
Mr. Baker was preceded in death by four sons, Lee Baker, Davis Bolden, Mac Bolden and M.L. Willis.
Among survivors are a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Wiley Herron, Don Herron, Hobert Herron, Brian Phillips, Jeff Stype and Bud Lane.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday in West End Baptist Church.
Gilliam Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas C. Bellamy

GRAY, Tenn. -- Thomas Cranston Bellamy, 55, of 243 Clearview St., died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport.
He was born in Oak Ridge, Tenn., a son of Mabel Morrison Bellamy of Gray, and the late Earl C. Bellamy. He spent his childhood in Kingsport and had lived in Gray for 36 years.
He was a 1962 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and attended East Tennessee State University. He was general manager and vice president of Keller Glasco Inc. of Johnson City, and a former vice president of E.C. Bellamy and Co. Railroad of Kingsport.
He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Margaret Church Bellamy; a daughter, Lee Bellamy of Johnson City; and a son, Earl Thomas of Gray.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8 p.m. in Morris-Baker South Chapel in Johnson City. Dr. Gene Lasley will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday at 3 p.m. in Monte Vista Burial Park. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be James L. Moses Jr., Tommy DeBord, Bill Giacometti, Johnny Markland, Danny Simerly, Eddie Palmer, Neil Johnson and David Butler. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Skeens, Travis Keller, Joe Jackson and Tim Street.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Morris-Baker Funeral Home.

Bessie L. Blackwell

SALTVILLE -- Bessie Lester Blackwell, 91, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
She was the widow of Earl Blackwell and a lifelong member of McCready Methodist Church. She had made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Puckett for the past two years.
Surviving are a sister, Lucille L. Waugaman of Salem, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 7:30 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville. The Rev. Robert Cook will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery.
Among survivors is a sister-in-law, Mamie Lester of Saltville.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Sunday prior to the service in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to McCready Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1093, Saltville, VA 24370.

Mary T. Bowers

Funeral services for Mary T. Bowers will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Blevins Funeral Home Chapel in Bristol, Va. The Rev. Larry Stallard and Dr. Kyle E. Barr will officiate. Burial will be in Glade Spring Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Bowers, 87, of Bristol Tennessee, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in NHC Healthcare of Bristol.
She was born in Smyth County, Va., a daughter of the late Daniel A. and Virginia T. White Taylor, and moved to Bristol in 1968. She was the widow of John Henry Bowers and a member of Edgemont Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are a sister, Virginia Ripkowski of Bristol Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bowers was also preceded in death by a young son, Jimmy Bowers.
Among survivors are special friends, Peggy and Cecil Stine.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service in Blevins Funeral Home.

Jettie C. Bowman

POUND -- Jettie C. Bowman, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at her home.
She was a daughter of the late E.O. Stidham and Cora Bolling Stidham, and a retired employee of Maryland Shipyard. She was a member of Independent Bible Church.
Surviving are her husband, Odus Bowman; two daughters, Norma Jackson of Thomaston, Ga., and Donna Horne of Sterling, Va.; a son, Lamarr Bowman of Marshall, Va.; a half-sister, Brazella Sturgill of Pound; two half-brothers, Ewing Stidham of Hinesburg, Vt., and Winston Stidham of Pound; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. in Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of Baker Funeral Home. Elder Donnie West will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Pound.
Mrs. Bowman was also preceded in death by two brothers, Delmar Stidham and Odell Stidham; and her stepmother, Bessie Stidham.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Stidham, Neal Stidham, Greg Roberts, Lynville Bowman, Randall Bowman, Jimmy Bowman, Ricky Bowman and Jimmy Lee Bowman.
The family will receive friends after 5 p.m. Saturday in Baker Funeral Home.

Walter B. DeBord

Walter Ben DeBord, 57, of 516 Old Abingdon Highway, Bristol, Va., died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a son of Ettie J. DeBord of Abingdon and was employed with Kern's Bakery for 32 years.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Julia DeBord; two sons, Jeffrey DeBord of Bristol Virginia and Patrick DeBord of the home; four sisters, Maudeen Blevins of Chilhowie and Mattie DeBord, Glenda DeBord and Brenda DeBord, all of Abingdon; three brothers, Gerald DeBord and Kermit DeBord, both of Abingdon, and Jim DeBord of Chilhowie; three grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Lyons Smith and Roger Hearl will officiate. Burial will be in Valley View Cemetery in Abingdon.
Mr. DeBord was also preceded in death by a brother, Earl H. DeBord.
Among survivors are grandsons, David, Andrew and Timothy DeBord; daughter-in-law, Martha DeBord and brother-in-law, Lloyd Blevins Sr.
Mr. DeBord was an avid fisherman.
Pallbearers will be Gary Davison, Ben Heath, Sheridan Pope, Mike Broome, Bill Chapman and David Nunley. Honorary pallbearers will be William Green and Danny Osborne.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Farris Funeral Service.

Jordan F. Fleenor

Jordan Forrest Fleenor, 50, of Bristol Virginia, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Bristol, a son of Hazel Fleenor and the late Gerald M. Fleenor. He was a former employee of Flav-O-Rich, a sign painter and local artist and craftsman.
He was a member of St. Luke Untied Methodist Church.
Surviving, besides his mother, are three sisters, Geralin Fleenor and Judith F. Harless, both of Bristol Virginia, and Glenna Fleenor of Boston; two brothers, J. Gerome Fleenor of Midlothian, Va., and Gerald Jayde Fleenor of Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 4 p.m. in Mountain View Mausoleum Chapel by Akard Funeral Home. The Rev. Neil Long will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after the service at the cemetery.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond Gibson

BUCHANAN COUNTY, Va. -- Funeral services for Raymond "Hoot" Gibson will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Troy Lester, Dewey Ward and Rick Whitt will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va.
Mr. Gibson, 77, of the Patterson section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Buchanan General Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Paul Eddie Smith, Chad Gibson, Delma Gene Gibson, Leon Davis and Leonard Wayne Keen. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. V. Modi, Dr. K. Modi, Emory Matney, Earl Hess, Buddy Bowman, Clarence Viars, Amos Nickles, Wayne Keen, Junior Keen and Lee Deel.
Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John P. Johnson

WISE -- John Paul Johnson, 64, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee.
He was self-employed as a roofing installer and attended Beverly Hills Tabernacle.
Surviving are his wife, Rose West Johnson; his stepmother, Betty Johnson of Huntington, W.Va.; two brothers, Alfred Johnson of Richmond and Donald Johnson of Grafton, Ohio; and a sister, Linda Kazar of Huntington, W.Va.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise. The Revs. Gene Jennings and Bobby Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Jessee Cemetery in Wise.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

Venus Kelly

BIG STONE GAP -- Venus Kelly died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Baptist Hospital in Knoxville.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Gilliam Funeral Home.
