Mary L. Lane

TAZEWELL COUNTY, Va. -- Funeral services for Mary L. Lane will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Singleton Funeral Service in Cedar Bluff. Evangelist Clarence Stiltner will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va.
Mrs. Lane, 81, of the Wardell section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in a Tazewell hospital.
She was born in McDowell County, W.Va., a daughter of the late John and Mattie Smith Lamie. She was the widow of Orbin Lane.
Surviving are a son, Harry L. Browning of Lorain, Ohio; two stepsons, Leonard Lane and Fred Lane, both of Fall Branch, Tenn; six sisters, Leona Stanley of Narrows, Va., Lettie Smith of Lorain, Nadine Sexton of Meadowview, Eva Justice of Kentucky, Billie Kennedy of Bartley, W.Va., and Betty Kennedy of Welch, W.Va.; two brothers, John K. Lamie of Jewell Valley, Va., and Howard Lamie of Lorain; 20 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Lane was also preceded in death by a son, Donald Gene Browning; a grandson, Dennis Lee Browning; and a stepdaughter, Shelvia Jean Baldree.
Among survivors is an adopted daughter, Donna Haefer of Lorain.
Mrs. Lane enjoyed raising beautiful flowers and loved fishing.
Pallbearers will be friends.
Singleton Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

George A. Maiden

ABINGDON -- George Allen Maiden, 83, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Meadowview, a son of the late Ernest E. and Elizabeth Caldwell Maiden. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Emory & Henry College and was a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in the Pacific.
He was employed with Mason-Dixon for 43 years and retired in 1981 as senior vice-resident of industrial relations. During his career, he lived in Atlanta until 1958, when he moved to Kingsport.
He was a former member of the Board of Directors of Holston Valley Community Hospital, Broad Street United Methodist Church and Kingsport Rotary Club. He moved to Abingdon in 1992, where he became a member of Abingdon United Methodist Church and the Abingdon Rotary Club. He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International.
Mr. Maiden was a longtime member of the Board of Trustees of Emory & Henry College and a former president of Emory & Henry Alumni Association.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Jewel Mobley Maiden; two daughters, Beth M. Mahaffey of Abingdon and Margie M. Dye of Kingsport; a brother, Wiley Maiden of Memphis, Tenn.; two sisters, Helen Dodson of Nashville and Gretchen Kendrick of Meadowview; and nine grandchildren.
Memorial services celebrating the life of George Allen Maiden will be conducted Sunday at 3:30 p.m. in Emory & Henry Chapel by Farris Funeral Service. The Revs. Bill Rowland and Betty Reiff will officiate. Prior to the memorial service, private graveside services will be conducted in Holston Conference Cemetery. The Rev. David St. Clair will officiate.
Mr. Maiden was also preceded in death by a brother, Roger Maiden.
Among survivors are sons-in-law, John Mahaffey of Abingdon and Donald Dye of Kingsport; and grandchildren, David Dean, Elizabeth Dean, Alice Sword and Emily Davis.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, grandson, grandsons-in-law and nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be the Board of Trustees at Emory & Henry College.
The family will receive friends following the service Sunday in Mason Hall at Emory & Henry College.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Ernest and Elizabeth Maiden Memorial Fund, Emory & Henry College, or to Abingdon United Methodist Church.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Eula T. McGlocklin

CHILHOWIE -- Eula Tuggle McGlocklin, 74, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000.
She was born in Russell County, a daughter of the late Lem Davis and Lou Eller Hunt Tuggle. She was the widow of Gordon Ray McGlocklin.
She was a member of Rush Creek Primative Baptist Church and retired from Harwood Manufacturing of Abingdon. She was a 25-year member of ILGWU.
Surviving are four sons, Oscar David "Mack" McGlocklin and Lecil Ray "Muscles" McGlocklin, both of Bristol Tennessee, Charles G. "Gus" McGlocklin of Emory, Va., and Lem Alden "Red" McGlocklin of Chilhowie; six sisters, Lena Bell Hess, Jesse Adams and Lola Margaret Dixon, all of Chilhowie, Florence Bittkin of Leotto, Ind., Florence Tuell of Blountville and Sarah E. Hess of Marion; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. Elder Eddie Lyles will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday in Farris Funeral Service.

Roy Patton

Roy Patton, 65, of 214 Stafford St., Bristol, Tenn., died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Wise County, Va., and lived in the Bristol area most of his life. He was a retired employee and district manager with American Card Co., a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of American Legion Hackler Wood Post 145.
He was a member of Avoca Christian Church.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Allen (Shirley) Jones of Clinton, Tenn.; a brother, Donald Patton of Bristol Tennessee; a stepdaughter, Debbie Collins of Bristol Tennessee; a stepson, Billy Hensley of Charlotte, N.C.; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at noon at the graveside in National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn., with military honors by VFW Patton Crosswhite Post 6975.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday in Weaver Funeral Home.

Noah Reynolds

VANSANT -- Funeral services for Noah "Node" Reynolds will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home in Grundy. The Revs. Ronnie Sliger, James Chapman and Eddie Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.
Mr. Reynolds, 71, of the Leemaster section, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, in Clinch Valley Medical Center in Richlands.
Pallbearers will be Duke Ratliff, Brent Ratliff, Larry McClanahan, Derek Reynolds, Erick McClanahan, Heath McClanahan, Kenney Reynolds Jr., Chris Reynolds, Ray Clevinger and Chad Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Hess, Ronnie Sliger, Hurley Meadows, Mack Ratliff, James Paul Ratliff, Raymond Clevinger, Wallace Caperton and Verner Lester. Flowergirls will be Angie Reynolds and Mandy Reynolds.
Services will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday in Shortridge-Ramey Funeral Home Chapel.

Emily H. Summers

ELBERTA, Ala. -- Funeral services for Emily Jane Hale Summers will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Harry Moore will officiate. Entombment will be in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon.
Mrs. Summers, 86, formerly of Gardner community near Honaker, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in Foley, Ala.
She was born in Gardner, a daughter of the late S.F. and Minnie Lou Hubbard Hale, and lived in Alabama for the past 21 years. She was a former resident of Welch, W.Va., Abingdon and Jacksonville, Fla. While living in Welch, she was employed as a telephone operator.
She was a member of Perdido Beach Baptist Church in Alabama and the widow of James G. Summers.
Surviving are a son, John Summers of Elberta, Ala.; three sisters, Dorothy Bare of Greensboro, N.C., Ree Mize of Honaker and Blanche Louise Breeding of Lebanon; a brother, Howard Hale of Honaker; and two granddaughters.
Mrs. Summers was also preceded in death by two sisters; two brothers; two half-sisters; and a half-brother.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law, Marlene Summers of Elberta; and granddaughters, Shana Summers and Tanya Summers.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends.
Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Honaker Funeral Home.

Hargue Watts

Hargue "Gus" Watts, 83, of Bristol Tennessee, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired employee from Curtis Wright in Patterson, N.J., as an engineer with 40 years of service. He held patents for several aircraft and space projects.
He had lived in Bristol since 1987 and was a member of Cornerstone Chapel Church, where he served as a deacon.
Surviving are his wife, Fay Watts; two sisters, Wanda Collier and Patsy Watts, both of Kingsport; three brothers, Navarre Watts Jr. of Kingsport, Don Watts of Jonesborough, Tenn., and William Watts of Fort Blackmore, Va.; his stepmother, Zola Watts of Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Nathan Bayly will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Jackson Day Cemetery in Cranks, Ky.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. prior to the service Saturday in Akard Funeral Home.

Vanessa A. Wilson

ROCKTON, Ill. -- Vanessa M. Adrian Wilson, 40, died Friday, Jan. 7, 2000, in Swedish American Hospital.
She was born in Rockford, a daughter of Rowland and Doris Miners Adrian of Saltville, and was formerly employed with World Cup Packaging.
Surviving, besides her parents, are her husband, David Wilson; a son, Alexsander Akers of Rockton; a daughter, Tanja Buss of Rockton; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Renee) Newland of Rockton; two brothers, Dennis Adrian of Rockford and Michael Adrian of Fort Collins, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted Sunday at 5 p.m. in Fitzgerald & Associates Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. The Rev. Joanne Nolan, chaplain, Swedish American Hospital, will officiate.
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by a son, Brett Akers; a brother, Terry Adrian; and grandparents.
Among survivors are sisters-in-law, Penny Adrian of Rockford and Marcia Adrian of Fort Collins; several aunts and cousins; and a very special friend, Mrs. Steve (Leah) Otten of Rockton.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. William R. Schultz and the staff of Rockford Hematology and Oncology, as well as the staff of Swedish American Hospital seventh floor, west.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of service Sunday in Fitzgerald & Associates Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel.

Madeline H. Barker

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Madeline Hawthorne Barker, 87, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge.
She had lived in Baton Rouge since 1981 and was a daughter of the late Donna Wallace Hawthorne and George Wiley Hawthorne.
Surviving are her husband, Silas Richard Barker; a daughter, Mrs. Gerald J. (Judith B.) Landry; three granddaughters, Mrs. David M. (Charmain L.) Touchstone, Suzanne Barker Landry and Felicia Kay Landry; and a great-grandson, William Wallace Touchstone.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon. Burial will be in Holston Conference Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Farris Funeral Service.

Mary T. Bowers

Funeral services for Mary T. Bowers will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Blevins Funeral Home Chapel in Bristol Virginia. The Rev. Larry Stallard and Dr. Kyle E. Barr will officiate. Burial will be in Glade Spring Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Bowers, 87, of Bristol Tennessee, died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2000, in NHC Healthcare of Bristol.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday prior to the service in Blevins Funeral Home.
