HOLYFIELD
Margaret F. Holyfield, 89, of Richmond, widow of Cecil George Holyfield Jr., died Friday, January 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by a son, George William Holyfield; a daughter, Nancy H. Smith; and is survived by a daughter and her husband, Shirley H. and Rodney E. Horsley; her grandchildren, Lizzy Dean Holyfield, George W. and Margaret (Margi) Smith, Robert H. and Anthony R. Horsley, Nancy M. and James H. Macklin II; her great-grandson, Kamin R. Horsley; and a niece, Claudia Cosgrove. Mrs. Holyfield was a member of Allstar Chapter #1, O.E.S. in Oak Lawn, Ill. for 58 years, and Patterson Avenue Baptist Church. Family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, January 15, at the Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Rd. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

HOOGENDONK
Mr. William Peter "Bill" Hoogendonk, 79, of Midlothian, died Friday, January 12, 2001 at Southerland Place. He retired in 1985 as a Senior Research Chemist with Dupont after 22 years with the company. He was a member of the Salisbury Presbyterian Church, The Salisbury Country Club, and The Virginia Chess Association. Surviving are his wife, Albertina E. (Betty) Hoogendonk whom he married March 14, 1945; and a son and daughter-in-law, William P. (Pete) and Marti Hoogendonk of Salisbury, N.C. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, in the Salisbury Presbyterian Church by the Rev. Gordon Mapes. Burial will follow in Westhampton Memorial Park at 12:30 p.m. The family will receive friends in the Narthex of the church following the service. Memorials may be made to Salisbury Presbyterian Church. Arrangements by the Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home.

HUGHES
Barbara Tyler Hughes, 55, of Mechanicsville, died Friday, January 12, 2001. She is survived by her husband, Major C. Hughes; two daughters, Lisa Carol McNeil, Sheila Broache Turner; three grandchildren, Ashley Renea, Shannon Nicole and Brandon Lee. Her remains rest at Bliley Funeral Home's Staples Mill Chapel, 8510 Staples Mill Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, and where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.

HUNNICUTT
Margaret Reed Hunnicutt of Richmond died Thursday, January 11, 2001. She is survived by a niece, Shirley Young and her husband, Carlson of Roanoke; and a devoted friend Arline Kramer of Richmond. Miss Hunnicutt was retired from Prudential Insurance Co. She loved horses and used to be an avid rider. Miss Hunnicutt enjoyed writing poetry. Remains rest at the Central Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 3215 Cutshaw Ave., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, January 15, in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

ILNICKY
James Fulton Ilnicky, age 26, died on Wednesday, December 27, 2000, in an automobile accident at Greenwater, Wash., near Mt. Rainier. James resided in San Francisco, Calif. He previously resided in Tampa, Fla., and Highland Park and Bridgewater, N.J. He was the beloved son of his mother and father, Carol and Anthony Antonio of Blacksburg, Va. James is survived by his uncle, Richard F. Jones and his wife, Clair, and his cousin, Julie of Free Union, Va.; his brother, D. Scott Ilnicky and his wife, Helen, two nephews and one niece of Richmond, Va.; and his sister, Beth I. Shaffer and her husband, Jake, three nieces and one nephew of Pulaski, Va. James graduated from the University of Michigan in 1996 and was a financial analyst at Sun Microsystems. His wide range of interests, from coaching youth soccer to his avid participation in outdoor activities such as skiing, climbing and camping combined with his love of music and travelling, gave him a huge rolodex of friends all over the country. James has brought joy and meaning to our lives and his loss is deeply felt by his family, his beloved Deanna Rossi of Long Valley, N.J., and his many friends. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be sent to American Lung Association, 3512 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke, Va. 24018. Earmark for "Asthma Camp for 5-12 Year Olds".

JACOBSON
Elva Fowlkes Jacobson, 93, daughter of Ella Lewis Fowlkes and Sterling Fowlkes, died January 9, 2001 in Americus, Ga. Mrs. Jacobson, a native of Petersburg, is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth S. Mueller of Albany, Ga.; four grandchildren, Sheryl M. Smith of Richmond, Paige M. Tosta of Honduras, Norma M. Pope of Douglas, Ga. and Frank N. Mueller of Fayetteville, N.C.; six great-grandchildren, Joy S. Patton and James N. Smith of Richmond, Guillermo Tosta of Orlando, Fla., Norman Tosta, who is currently stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, Herbert Tosta of Honduras and Shonda Wilbourn of Atlanta, Ga.; and a great-great-grandson, Nicholas Alexander Patton of Richmond. Mrs. Jacobson worked all her life as a medical assistant to physicians, was a member of the American Medical Assistants Society and a past president of the Virginia Medical Assistants Society. She was also a member of the AARP and Porterfield United Methodist Church of Albany, Ga. The funeral will be held in the chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home in Petersburg on Monday, January 15 at 11 a.m. with Mrs. Jacobson's grandson-in-law, Noval A. Smith Jr. presiding. Burial will follow in Blandford Cemetery.

KELLEY
Florence Louise Powell Kelley, age 86, of Blackstone, widow of Leonard Daniel Kelley, died Saturday, January 13, 2001. She is survived by four brothers, John G. Powell of Blackstone, Walter Lee Powell of Norfolk, Gene Powell of Norfolk and Glenn Powell of Sutherland; three sisters, Cornelia Hudgins of Amelia, Betty Jane Elmore of Pulaski and Nancy Carol Hardaway of S. Pasadena, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside funeral services will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. January 16, 2001 in the Lakeview Cemetery, Blackstone, with the Reverend Tom Collins officiating. The family will receive friends Monday, 7 to 8 p.m. at Hamner-McMillian Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Nottoway Co. Emergency Squad or Blackstone Baptist Church.

LARCEN
Donald Wayne Larcen, 79, of Richmond, died after a long illness on January 13, 2001. He is survived by his beloved wife, Beatrice Buckley Larcen; two sons, Stephen W. Larcen and his wife, Susan Graham of Niantic, Conn., and Garth B. Larcen and his wife, Barbara Barrett Larcen of Richmond; one daughter, Anne D. Smith and her husband, Charles R. Smith of Midlothian; and four grandchildren, Maxwell Larcen, Elizabeth Blair Larcen, Austin Smith and Lindsay Anne Smith. A native of Denver, Colo., Mr. Larcen graduated from the University of Colorado as a chemical engineer in 1944. He also received a B.S. degree from the Colorado School of Mines and completed studies of graduate school at Harvard, MIT and the University of Pennsylvania. He served as a U.S. Navy electronics maintenance officer in the Pacific Theater in World War II and the Korean Conflict. A member of St. Benedict's Catholic Church, he was the founding President of the Richmond Serra Club and was District Governor for Serra International in 1965-66. He was a former 3rd degree Knight of Columbus. In 1960, Mr. Larcen established D.W. Larcen and Co., Inc. of Richmond, a manufacturer's representative for mechanical equipment and automatic controls. He was a member of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Past President of the Richmond Hopewell Instrument Society of America, Past President of the Richmond Chapter of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Fraternity and a Past Director of the Engineer's Club of Richmond. He had also been a member of the Richmond MENSA Society. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Benedict's Church on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. Donations may be made towards Mass cards of the Church of your preference.

LEWIS
Gene Autry Lewis, 61, of Lottsburg, died January 12, 2001. He was a member of Melrose United Methodist Church, Warsaw-Bauman Lodge #332, AF&AM and Betty Lewis Chapter, OES #107, Kinsale. Surviving are a sister, Virginia Bennett; a devoted friend, Gladys M. Bryant; a niece and nephew, Earl and Cynthia Herbert. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Jones-Ash Funeral Home, Rainswood. Interment Melrose United Methodist Cemetery, Lottsburg with Masonic Rites. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday with an Eastern Star Memorial Service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

MAYNARD
Grace Lee Maynard, age 92, of Richmond, Va., and formerly of Cheraw, S.C., died Friday, January 12, 2001. She had been a resident of St. Mary's Woods and Our Lady of Hope since 1995. She was a member of the River Road Presbyterian Church. She was born in Wade, N.C., January 19, 1908, the oldest child of the late Junius and Ada Lee. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Gary Maynard Sr.; and her daughter, Barbara Bryant. She lived in Cheraw, S.C., from 1934 to 1995. An active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw, "Miss Grace", as she was lovingly called, was President of the Women of the Church, a recipient of the Honorary Life Membership of the Presbyterian Women award, and a long time member of the Women's Bible Class. She also played the piano for the Men's Sunday School class for many years. A member of the Civic League Garden Club, she loved to share her cut flowers and vegetables. Her church, gardening and beautiful yard were her principal hobbies. She is survived by her son, J. Gary Maynard Jr.; and her daughter-in-law, Sally Maynard of Richmond, Va., their children, Sara Sommers, Catherine Armstrong, John Gary Maynard III, Mason Maynard; and her previously deceased daughter's children, Mary Ann Yow, Barbara Hardwick, Patricia Bolton, Griffin Bryant, Laura McDonald; 16 great-grandchildren and four sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 17, 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw, S.C., with interment in Chatham Hill Memorial Garden. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Cheraw, South Carolina, P.O. Box 552, Cheraw, S.C. 29520.

MOYER
John C. Moyer, age 75, of Mechanicsville, widower of Shirley C. Moyer, died Friday, January 12, 2001. Survived by his children, Deborah Moyer Quinter of Florida, Doug Moyer of Mechanicsville, and Larry Moyer of Richmond; also six grandsons; his sister, Catherine Johnson of Mechanicsville. Remains rest Laburnum Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 2110 E. Laburnum Ave., where the family will receive friends 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, and where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday. Interment Forest Lawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hanover Presbyterian Church.

NOEL
Bessie Tignor Noel, age 80, of Richmond, died Friday, January 12, 2001 at M.C.V. Hospitals. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Clifton S. Noel; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret Ann and Alvin "Pudgie" Jenkins of Oak Grove; grandson and wife, Michael and Betty Jenkins of Marietta, Ga.; granddaughter and husband, Kris and Gary Inscoe of Oak Grove; one great-granddaughter, Allison Inscoe; three great-grandsons, Andrew Jenkins, Gary Wayne Inscoe and Calvin Inscoe; six brothers, Daniel "Chicken" Tignor and John Tignor of Caret, James Tignor and Clarence Tignor of Milford, George Tignor of Bowling Green and Bobby Tignor of Poquoson. She was a member of New Highland Baptist Church. She recently retired from Fairfield Middle School of Henrico Co. after 25 years of service. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, January 15, 2001 at Upper King and Queen Baptist Church, Helmet, Va. The family will receive friends at the B.W. White Funeral Home, Aylett, Va. from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Highland Baptist Church Building Fund, 9200 New Ashcake Rd., Mechanicsville, Va. 23116 or Oak Grove Baptist Church Building Fund, 8096 Leedstown Rd., Oak Grove, Va. 23443.

PASTORE
Dr. John Nicholas Pastore Sr., 88, of Richmond, passed on peacefully January 13, 2001 at Henrico Doctors' Hospital after a long illness. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ellen Dickerson Pastore; a daughter, Susan D. Pastore; a son, John N. Pastore Jr. and his wife, Karen; and three grandchildren, Brandy, Aliea and John III. Originally from Bluefield, W.Va., Dr. Pastore moved to Richmond in 1934, graduated in 1936 from the University of Richmond, graduated from Richmond Professinal Institute (now VCU) program in Public Welfare in 1939, and received a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the Medical College of Virginia in 1947. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army in World War II and the U.S. Air Force during Korea. A retired Oral Surgeon who practiced at various Richmond hospitals and held chairs in Oral Maxiofacial Surgery at several, he was a member of the Richmond Medical Society, Richmond Dental Society, Virginia Dental Association, Amerian Equalibration Society, American Dental Association, and the South Eastern Society of Oral and Maxiofacial Surgeons. He also served on the Medical Advisory Committee of the Virginia Department of Rehabilitative Services. After retiring from active practice in 1982, Dr. Pastore consulted with three insurance companies and pursued his life long interest in history as Chair of Restoration of Dr. Ben Sheppard's medical office at Meadow Farms. Later, he was the founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Henricus Foundation, with the goal of restoring the city of Henricus, which inclues the first hospital in the United States. His remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Central Chapel, 3801 Augusta Ave., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday at All Saints Episcopal Church, 8787 River Rd. Interment Westhampton Memorial Park.

PAULUS
Eldena Higgins Paulus, 76, of Enon, died January 13, 2001 in John Randolph Medical Center. Mrs. Paulus was born in Rockbridge County, Va., a daughter of the late Robert G. and Vernia Lee Knick Higgins. She was a retired operator from Allied-Signal Corp. A friend to all, she is survived by her husband, Henry Paulus of Enon; her loving and committed stepdaughters, Patricia Mulkey of Greeneville, Tenn., Jolene Dell of Bristol, Tenn.; nephews, Timothy L. Wilson of Wyomissing, Pa., Stephen L. Wilson of Petersburg; niece, Tanya Tedder of Colonial Heights; four sisters, Pauline H. Wilson of Colonial Heights, Jerry Sartain of Chesterfield, Adale Mundy of Surry, Va., Bernice McKimy of Laurel, Md.; and a half brother, Robert L. Higgins of Rockbridge County. Numerous other family members also survive. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 16 in the Hopewell Chapel of J.T. Morriss & Son Funeral Home, 9th and Broadway, with Rev. Randal Aldred and Rev. Kevin Breham of Bermuda Pentecostal Holiness Church officiating. The interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

PORTWOOD
Audrey Louise Hampton Johnson Portwood, 78, of Richmond, passed away December 24, 2000. She is survived by two sisters, Mildred H. Musselman and Dolores V. Stanton, both of Richmond; son, Vernon Randolf Portwood of San Francisco; two stepchildren, Chris and Diane Portwood; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday in Oakwood Cemetery.

POWELL
Alice Crawley Powell, 81, of Richmond, died Friday, January 12, 2001. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh; son, Cecil S. Powell; and her brother, James Clifford Crawley Jr. Survivors include one son, Franklin Hugh Powell and his wife, Nona; daughter-in-law, Evelyn Sawyer; one sister, Pauline Crawley Frank of Rice, Va.; three grandsons, Blaine, Kendall and Brent Powell; and two great-grandsons, Cody and Austin Powell; and several nieces and nephews. Her remains rest at the Bliley Funeral Home's Chippenham Chapel, 6900 Hull St. Rd., where the family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday. Interment Sunset Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Manchester and/or Bensley-Bermuda Vol. Rescue Squads.
