Virginia T. Carlson
Funeral services for Virginia Thomas Carlson will be conducted Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel by Akard Funeral Home. Dr. W. Rand Forder will officiate.
Mrs. Carlson, of Grand Court, Bristol Virginia, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late John B. and Sally Ferguson Thomas and the widow of Bernard "Bus" Carlson.
She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College and a teacher for many years in the Bristol Virginia School System. She moved to Chicago and was a teacher in a Chicago school system for several years before returning to Bristol. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Bristol Virginia and the PEO Sisterhood.
Surviving are a sister, Margaret Thomas Jackson of Springfield, Va.; three nephews; and three nieces.
Mrs. Carlson was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Crowell and Lou Gent Cofer; and four brothers, Herman P. Thomas, J. Gaines Thomas, John A. Thomas and Paul C. Thomas.
Among survivors are nephews, C.J. Crowell Jr. of Bristol Tennessee, James H. Cofer of Charlotte, N.C., and R. Gent Cofer of Bozeman, Mich.; and nieces, Maree Louise Hall of Kingsport, Jan Thomas Brewer of San Francisco and Nancy Thomas Hopping of Bluff City.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday before the services in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel.

SWORDS CREEK, Va. -- Jean Casey, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in a Lebanon hospital.
She was a lifelong resident of Swords Creek and a daughter of the late Bessie Dye. She was a homemaker and attended Pine Creek Pole Church.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil Casey; a son, Brian Casey of Castlewood; and a sister, Bea Compton of Doran.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Ralph Bostic will officiate. Burial will be in Grennhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill.
Mrs. Casey was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Dye.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends.

Walter V. Cornett Sr.
MARION -- Walter V. Cornett Sr., 72, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Catawba Hospital in Catawba, Va.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Hattie Riggles Cornett of Martinsville, Va.; two daughters, Linda C. Shields of Martinsville and Sheila C. Roope of Petersburg, Va.; three sons, Walter V. Cornett Jr. of Marion, Donald V. Cornett and Walter E. Cornett, both of Bassett, Va.; five sisters, Nedaro Authenrieth of Atkins, Va., Viola McElroy of Atlanta, Lena McMillan of Fountain Valley, Calif., Carmen Henley of Florida and Virginia Dare Poff of Greensboro, N.C.; two brothers, Sherwood Cornett of Marion and Robert "Kyle" Cornett of Bristol Virginia; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Seaver-
Brown Chapel. The Rev. Eddie Beck will officiate. Burial will be in Anderson Hill Cemetery in Troutdale, Va., with full military rites by Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Pearl D. Fleenor
ABINGDON -- Pearl Davis Fleenor, 71, of 18180 Rich Valley Road died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Johnston Memorial hospital.
She was born in Bristol Virginia and had lived most of her life in Wallace. She was a former employee of Troy Laundry and a member of Central Baptist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Vicky Ball of Agra, Okla., and Doris Shelton of Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Robert "Benny" Fleenor and Michael Fleenor, both of Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Jack Davis of Blountville; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Claude Canter will officiate. Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Sharretts Cemetery.

W.E. Hammons
SHADY VALLEY, Tenn. -- W.E. "Ed" Hammons, 75, of 2194 Winchester Road, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, Tenn.
He was born in Shouns,
Johnson County, Tenn., a son of the late William Ellis and Ida Payne Hammons, and lived in Piney Flats and Bluff City areas before moving to Shady Valley, where he lived for several years.
He was a retired Sullivan County emergency medical service technician, a member of Shady Valley Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Gertrude "Trudy" Greene Hammons; a daughter, Mrs. George (Marjorie) Wood of Simpsonville, S.C.; a son, Jim Hammons of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Erleen Taylor and Thelma Grindstaff, both of Mountain City; a brother, Ernest Hammons of Mountain City; four grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Shady Valley Baptist Church by Weaver Funeral Home. Ministers Eddie Porter and Luke Martin will officiate. Burial will be Monday in the National Cemetery in Mountain Home, Tenn.
Among survivors are grandchildren, Valerie Sinn, Amy Hammons, Robin Hammons and Carl Wood; and great-grandson, Christopher Hammons.

Mr. Harris, 77, of 308 McDowell St., Bristol, Va., died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Philip P. Hennessee
Philip Patrick "Chiz" Hennessee, 75, of Bristol Tennessee died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Coffee County, Tenn., a son of the late Patrick and Lena Rogers Hennessee. He had lived in Sullivan County since 1945.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired employee of Adams and Whitson Construction Co.
Surviving are his wife, Nina Cheathem Hennessee; a daughter, Avis E. Stephany of Indianapolis; a son, Glenn A. Hennessee of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Opal Chamberlain of Santa Maria, Calif., and Irma Bottorff of Belleview, Fla.; three brothers, H.D. Hennessee and Paul Hennessee, both of Belleview and Wyndell Hennessee of Indianapolis; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Dan
Smith will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rooty Branch Cemetery.
Mr. Hennessee was also preceded in death by two brothers, E. Leon Hennessee and Bryan Hennessee; and a sister, Pauline Hennessee.

SALTVILLE -- Stella M. Jackson, 82, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
Surviving are a brother, Ervin Jackson of Saltville; two sisters, Roxie Davenport of Tannersville and Sylvia Woodward of Saltville; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Elizabeth Cemetery by D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Clarence Frye will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Woodward, Walt Woodward, Ralph Woodward, Cecil Davenport, Clarence Frye Jr. and Willie Frye.

ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. -- Jesse H. Jarrett, 85, of 184 Jesse Jarrett Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C.
He was born in
Carter County, a son of the late William and Myra Street Jarrett. He was a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and former adult Sunday School teacher. He was owner of Jarrett's Apple Orchard and a former member of the Apple Growers Association. He was a member of the Board of Directors of
Carter County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Carrie Miller Jarrett; a son, Harold Jarrett of Roan Mountain; three daughters, Marie Hodge of Blountville, Betty Hughes of Elizabethton and Grace Presnell of Bristol; a sister, Mary Garland of Roan Mountain; a brother, Earl Jarrett of Knoxville; five grandsons; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Burbank Free Will Baptist Church by Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. The Rev. Richard Blevins and Johnny Hill will officiate. Music will be by Burbank Free Will Baptist Church Quartet and Denise Hill. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Jarrett Family Cemetery. Everyone will meet at 10:55 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery for the service.
Mr. Jarrett was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Sue Helton; and four brothers.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Beth Ann Jarrett of Roan Mountain; sons-in-law Hubert Hodge of Blountville, Jim Hughes of Elizabethton and Tom Hughes of Bristol; grandsons Gregory Heaton of Roan Mountain, Jeff Hodge of Raleigh, N.C., Scott Hodge of Bristol and Jim Hughes of Elizabethton; granddaughters Becky Emmert of
Johnson City, Regina Buck of Roan Mountain and Denna Shelton of Unicoi; great-grandchildren Autumn and Amanda Heaton, Emily Hodge and Brandon Hodge; and a special friend, Zeb Honeycutt.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Jeff Hodge, Scott Hodge, Gregory Heaton, Jimmy Hughes, Michael Hughes, Lincoln Shelton and Jon Buck. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, Zeb Honeycutt and special friends.

John M. Kinsler
BIG STONE GAP -- Funeral services for John Milford Kinsler will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Lonnie Berry and Bob Clark will officiate. Burial will be in Kinsler Family Cemetery.
Mr. Kinsler, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Big Stone Gap.
He was a lifelong resident of the Big Stone Gap area and a son of the late Rev. John Riley and Elizabeth Belcher Kinsler. He was of the Baptist faith and a taxi cab driver for Barnette Cab Co.
Surviving are his wife, Stella Margaret Kinsler; three sons, John Glen Kinsler of the home; Tommy Lee Kinsler of Duffield and Donald Ralph Kinsler of Ohio; five daughters, Lillian Hood of Big Stone Gap, Lakey "Pelb" Baker of Ohio, Teresa Gayle Livesay of Jonsville, Mary Magdalene Ball of Duffield and Ann Marie Kinsler of the home; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Kinsler was also preceded in death by a son, John Milford Kinsler Jr.
