Zadie Cox

CLEVELAND, Va. -- Zadie Cox, 98, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center.
He was a son of the late George Henry and Louise Robins Cox and a retired farmer. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and the widower of Virginia Marie Huffman Cox.
Surviving are three daughters, Maxine Harmon and Dema Crabtree, both of Lebanon, and Sonja Mabe of Cleveland; a sister, Nellie Chafin of Lebanon; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1 p.m. in Russell County Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Darrell Fletcher and James Massie will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Cox was also preceded in death by a son, Robert G. Cox; a daughter, Margaret Sue Huffman; and a grandson, Kevin Huffman.
Among survivors are grandchildren Darryle Huffman, Lisa Jo Johnson and Brandi Mabe.
Pallbearers will be Jack Blankenship, Robert Frank Barrett, Orville Davis, Matthew Chafin, Carter Chafin and John Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph Davis, George Thomas, Odell Kiser, Garland Kiser, Roger Kiser, Winston Kiser, Frosty Crabtree and Roger Meade.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Russell County Funeral Home.

Margaret I. Edmondson

GLADE SPRING -- Margaret Irene Edmondson, 72, of the Friendship community died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Radford, a daughter of the late Isaac and Margaret Cole Edmondson. She had lived in the Friendship community for the past 50 years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she was a song leader, teacher, WMU leader, librarian and held many other positions. She was employed as a seamstress for more than 30 years with Harwood Manufacturing Co.
Surviving are two brothers, James R. Edmondson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Roy H. Edmondson of Bel Air, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel in Abingdon. Burial will be in Mountain View Baptist Cemetery.
Miss Edmondson was also preceded in death by two brothers, William C. and Charles E. Edmondson.
She retired to the farm, where she enjoyed doing handwork and puzzles. After her church, her main love was her family and friends and almost daily, someone stopped by to check on her and bring food.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Farris Funeral Service.

Pearl D. Fleenor

ABINGDON -- Graveside services for Pearl Davis Fleenor will be conducted Saturday at 10 a.m. in Sharretts Cemetery.
Ms. Fleenor, 71, of 18180 Rich Valley Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

James R. Folkner

BLOUNTVILLE -- James R. "Jim" Folkner, 54, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
He was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County and a son of the late Earl V. and Nevada Moore Folkner. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietname War, a former employee of Sperry and Raytheon Corp. and most recently employed by TPI Corp. of Johnson City. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Blountville, where he served as a trustee, treasurer and Sunday School superintendent.
Surviving are his wife, Linda Almaroad Folkner; two daughters, Michelle Folkner Quillen of Church Hill and Mandy Folkner Ball of Kingsport; a son, James M. Folkner of Blountville; a sister, Linda Jones of Blountville; three brothers, Fred Folkner, John Folkner and Larry Folkner, all of Bluff City; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8 p.m. in Bethel United Methodist Church in Blountville by Akard Funeral Home. The Revs. Alan L. Gorrell and Miles D. Baines will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday at 10 a.m. in Bethel Community Cemetery with military rites by VFW Patton Crosswhite Post 6975.
Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends, to include Raymond Scism, Alan Long, James Neeley, Mike Houser, Bob Conner, Russ Brogden, Glenn Almaroad, Steve Almaroad, Roy Almaroad, David Jones and Rick Ball.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday before the service in the church.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Bethel United Methodist Church, Shipley Ferry Road, Blountville, TN 37617.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma V. Gardner

WISE - Thelma Virginia Gardner, 92, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Norton Community Hospital.
She was of the Baptist faith and received a degree in nursing from Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont, W.Va. She retired as a registered nurse from Park Avenue Hospital in Norton, serving from 1956-78, and was also an employee of Pennington Gap Hospital and Jenkins Hospital. She was the widow of Edgar Rodgers Gardner.
Surviving are three sons, Roger Gardner of Sanford, Fla., Edward Gardner and Terry Gardner, both of Wise; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 7 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Conerly will officiate. Graveside services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap.
Mrs. Gardner was also preceded in death by two daughters, Kay Arlene Gardner and Joyce Ann Baker.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until time of services at 7 p.m. Sunday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

W.E. Hammons

SHADY VALLEY, Tenn. -- Funeral services for W.E. "Ed" Hammons will be con ducted Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Shady Valley Baptist Church by Weaver Funeral Home. Ministers Eddie Porter and Luke Martin will officiate. Burial will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the National Cemetery at Mountain Home.
Mr. Hammons, 75, of 2194 Winchester Road, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Bonnie H. "Miss Bonnie" Gentry.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Weaver Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Shady Valley Rescue Squad, Shady Valley, TN 37688.

Philip P. Hennessee

Graveside services for Philip Patrick "Chiz" Hennessee will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rooty Branch Cemetery.
Mr. Hennessee, 75, of Bristol Tennessee, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Charles G. Humphrey

ABINGDON -- Charles G. Humphrey, 83, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., a son of the late Garland and Marguerite Snapp Humphrey. He attended Green Spring Presbyterian Church and was retired from Raytheon. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a member of Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 and the American Legion.
Surviving are three sisters, Hope Humphrey, Irene H. Wallace and Frances H. Webb, all of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 3 p.m. in Old Glade Presbyterian Church by Farris Funeral Service. The Rev. Thomas Sproule will officiate. Burial will be in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with military graveside services by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975.
Pallbearers will be Blair Keller Jr., Preston Brown, Lonnie Wallace and Paul H. Phillips.
The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the church.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse H. Jarrett

ROAN MOUNTAIN, Tenn. -- Funeral services for Jesse H. Jarrett will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Burbank Free Will Baptist Church by Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel. The Rev. Richard Blevins and Johnny Hill will officiate. Music will be by Burbank Free Will Baptist Church Quartet and Denise Hill. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Jarrett Family Cemetery. Those attending should meet at 10:55 a.m. Saturday at the cemetery for the service.
Mr. Jarrett, 85, of 184 Jesse Jarrett Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Cannon Memorial Hospital in Linville, N.C.
He was born in Carter County, a son of the late William and Myra Street Jarrett. He was a member of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and former adult Sunday School teacher. He was owner of Jarrett's Apple Orchard and a former member of the Apple Growers Association. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Carter County Farm Bureau.
Surviving are his wife, Carrie Miller Jarrett; a son, Harold Jarrett of Roan Mountain; three daughters, Marie Hodge of Blountville, Betty Hughes of Elizabethton and Grace Presnell of Bristol; a sister, Mary Garland of Roan Mountain; a brother, Earl Jarrett of Knoxville; five grandsons; three granddaughters; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jarrett was also preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Sue Helton; and four brothers.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Beth Ann Jarrett of Roan Mountain; sons-in-law Hubert Hodge of Blountville, Jim Hughes of Elizabethton and Tom Presnell of Bristol; grandsons Gregory Heaton of Roan Mountain, Jeff Hodge of Raleigh, N.C., Scott Hodge of Bristol and Michael Hughes of Elizabethton; granddaughters Becky Emmert of Johnson City, Regina Buck of Roan Mountain and Denna Shelton of Unicoi; great-grandchildren Autumn and Amanda Heaton, Emily Hodge and Brandon Hodge; and a special friend, Zeb Honeycutt.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Jeff Hodge, Scott Hodge, Gregory Heaton, Jimmy Hughes, Michael Hughes, Lincoln Shelton and Jon Buck. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Burbank Free Will Baptist Church, Zeb Honeycutt and special friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in the church or any time at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Burbank Free will Baptist Church Youth Program.
Tetrick Funeral Home, Riverside Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.

Elsie McCracken

Elsie McCracken, 80, of 20018 Pairgin Road, Bristol, Va., died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Greystone Health Care Center.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a daughter of the late Ernest A. and Sarah Horton Canter. She was a member of Wallace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Roy McCracken; three sons, James C. McCracken of Birmingham, Ala., Larry W. McCracken of the home and Gary L. McCracken of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Lacy Grogan and Nancy Smith, both of Bristol Virginia; four brothers, Roy Canter and Muncy Canter, both of Bristol Virginia, Clint Canter of Chilhowie and Earl Canter of Lorenzo, Texas; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8 p.m. in Blevins Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Peggy Long will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel in Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The Rev. Neil Long will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday before the service in Blevins Funeral Home.
