Connie B. Montaigne

VANSANT, Va. -- Connie Boyd Montaigne, of Route 1 died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Haysi Funeral Home.

Louis E. Musser

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Louis Eugene Musser will be conducted Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in Abingdon Baptist Church by Farris Funeral Service. The Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with full military honors by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 of Bristol.
Mr. Musser, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
He was born in Meadowview. He was a member of Abingdon Baptist Church and the Harry Denton Sunday School Class. He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, serving with the 6th Division. He was present at the surrender of the Japanese that ended World War II.
He was chairman of the Board of Farmers Mutual Insurance Co. and was responsible for a number of buildings in and around historic Abingdon as a contractor for 40 years. He was a Free Mason with Abingdon Masonic Lodge 48 AF&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Beulah Musser; a daughter, Peggy Martin of Huntersville, N.C.; two sisters, Delephine Sternaman of Bristol Tennessee and Virginia Tignor of Abingdon; a brother, Joe Musser of Bristol Tennessee; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Among survivors are grandchildren Robin G. Stump, Roger L. Musser, Kip Wallace, David S. Musser and Angela Wallace Waldo; great-grandchildren Courtney Stump, Nickolas Waldo and Patrick Waldo; and a special friend, Richard Summers.
Pallbearers will be Jason Rush, Mike Rush, Joey Musser, Dee Musser, Jimmy Tignor and Cecil Rhoten. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Stump, Kevin Waldo, Dr. Roger Neal, Dr. Wade Knuckles, Dr. Patrick Wallace, Dr. Emory Robinette, Dr. Clair Hixon and Joe Martin.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Abingdon Baptist Church, 361 West Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Harmon C. Peters Sr.

Harmon C. Peters Sr., 92, of Bristol Tennessee died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Bristol Regional Center.
He was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church.
He retired after over 30 years as a teacher and basketball coach at Holston Valley High School. He also was a teacher at Emmet Elementary School and served as first athletic director at Sullivan East High School before retiring in 1972. He was a member of Modern Woodmen for 76 years.
Surviving are his wife, Vitae C. Peters; a son, Harmon C. Peters Jr. of Bristol Tennessee; a daughter, Toni Peters of Bristol Tennessee; four grandchildren, Terri Peters of Stafford, Va., Angelia Slagle of Pittsburg, Pa., Tommie Loudy of Kingsport and Mary Beth Peters of Bristol Virginia; and five great-grandchildren, Cody Peters, Joey Morrow, Taylor Peters, Hayden Loudy and Loren Loudy.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Andrew Spence and Dr. Errol Rohr will officiate. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Peters was preceded in death by two sons, Thomas L. Peters and William Dennis Peters.
Pallbearers will be Paul Peters, Tommy Peters, Roy Tester, Dale Thomas, Glen Johnson and Jim Houser. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Christopher Kennedy, Dr. John Byers, Joe Ashley, Earl Rogers, Bill Hunnigan, Ed Booher, Charles Peters Jr., Charlie Fleming, Bernie Webb, J.C. Akard and Kenneth Carrier.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Saturday before the service in Weaver Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Cold Spring Presbyterian Church, 280 Cold Spring Church Road, Bristol, Tenn.

Claude E. Redman Sr.

NORTON -- Funeral services for Claude E. Redman Sr. will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hagy Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Walter Simms will officiate. Burial will be in Laurel Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Redman, 86, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Norton Community Hospital.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Ramsey Church of God.

Bobby Silcox

NORA, Va. -- Bobby Silcox, 50, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Haysi Funeral Home.

Elbert F. Tucker

BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for Elbert Franklin Tucker will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Memorial Funeral Chapel in Elizabethton. Dr. Dwight Hobbs will officiate. Entombment will be in the Chapel Mausoleum in Glenwood Cemetery in Bristol.
Mr. Tucker, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
A special "Thank You" to Michael and Robin Garrett for their excellent care of Mr. Tucker.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday in Memorial Funeral Chapel.

Grayson Yates

ABINGDON -- Funeral services for Grayson Yates will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. Joe Sluss and the Rev. Dr. Steven Pollard will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Mr. Yates, 90, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
Pallbearers will be Benny Yates, Don Carty, Mack Rose, Nicholas Sluss, Asa Large and Darrell Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Puckett, Rocky Carty, Carroll Baker and the Abingdon Baptist Church family.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Farris Funeral Service.

James M. Barnette Jr.

WISE -- James Martin "J.M." Barnette Jr., 83, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice in Bristol Tennessee.
He was a retired coal miner and the widower of Carrie Virginia Barnette.
Surviving are three daughters, Alice Barnette and Anna Flanary, both of Bristol Virginia, and Rosa Gilliam of Apopka, Fla.; four sons, Leon Barnette, Marvin Barnette, J.W. Hale and Marty Tunnell, all of Wise; a sister, Ollie Reece of Billings, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise. The Rev. Bobby Stanley will officiate. Burial will be in Wise Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

Eleanore Barron

Eleanore Barron, formerly of Valley Health Care in Chilhowie, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
She was born in Corning, N.Y., and lived in the Bristol area for the past 20 years. She was a secretary and member of St. Anne's Catholic Church in Bristol.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan McGill of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, Loraine Nealon of Corning and Mary Moran of Florida; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Private services and burial will be held in Corning.

David Franklin Bear

ATKINS, Va. -- Funeral services for David Franklin Bear will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Seaver- Brown Chapel. The Revs. Harry Howe and Rita E. White will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Marion.
Mr. Bear, 80, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a lifetime resident of Atkins and a member of Davis Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a past member of the board of trustees. He was a 1937 graduate of Atkins High School. He was a member of Atkins Ruritan Club, where he served as club president. He also served as zone governor, district governor and national director for Ruritan National. He represented the Atkins District on the Smyth County Board of Supervisors for six years.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Charmie G. Bear; a son, David F. "Jim" Bear Jr. of Rural Retreat; three daughters, Betty Kirk and Debby Hanshew, both of Atkins, and Pat Huber of Pulaski; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Betty Jo Bear of Rural Retreat; sons-in-law Sonny Kirk and Eddie Hanshew, both of Atkins, and Peter Huber of Pulaski; grandchildren Leigh Hess, Ann Nairn, Mary Beth Carter, Stephen Bear, Joanne Thiessen, James Bear, Jeff Hanshew and Matt Hanshew.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.

Ollie Mae Breeding

CLEVELAND, Va. -- Funeral services for Ollie Mae Breeding will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Clyde Lambert, Roy Lee Wilson and Ralph Younce will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery.
Mrs. Breeding, 81, of the Clinchfield community died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be grandsons.
Lebanon Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thelma Castle

CASTLEWOOD -- Funeral services for Thelma Castle will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Doyle Hobbs will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mrs. Castle, 82, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center in Lebanon.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Freddie E. Clevinger

HURLEY, Va. -- Freddie Elever Clevinger, 92, of the Paw Paw section died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Buchanan General Hospital.
He was born in Buchanan County, a son of the late James A. and Ellen Stanley Clevinger. He was a member of Bull Creek Old Regular Baptist Church for more than 50 years, a retired coal miner employed with Harman Mining Corp. and a member of United Mine Workers of America Local Union 7025. He was also employed with the Division of Forestry in Buchanan County for 35 years.
Surviving are his wife, Edna Vanover Clevinger; four daughters, Louise Brown of Abingdon, Elva Dotson of Athens, W.Va., Clara Mae Fletcher of Vansant and Florence Ellen Baker of Lexington, Ky.; four sons, James Clevinger, Doug Clevinger, Jerry Clevinger and Danny Clevinger, all of Hurley; a sister, Margaret Huskey of Elkhorn City, Ky.; 20 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 1 p.m. in Grundy Funeral Home Chapel. Elders Howard Daniels, Jackie Yates, Delbert Justus, Denny Hurley and Paul McClanahan will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain Valley Memorial Park at Big Rock.
Mr. Clevinger was also preceded in death by five sisters and four brothers.
Among survivors are sons-in-law Danny Brown of Abingdon, Earl Dotson of Athens, W.Va., and James "Ras" Fletcher of Vansant; and daughters-in-law Pauline Clevinger, Janice Clevinger and Evelyn Clevinger, all of Hurley.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and sons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Franklin Sutherland, Dr. J.P. Sutherland Sr., Dr. Clint Sutherland and nursing staffs of Sutherland Clinic and Buchanan General Hospital.
Friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home, where a service will be held at 7 p.m.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
