Bonnie L. Luttrell

KINGSPORT -- Funeral services for Bonnie L. Luttrell will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in East Lawn Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Paul F. Becker will officiate. Graveside services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park.
Mrs. Luttrell, 57, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, in Indian Path Medical Center.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in East Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Kingsport Diabetes Association or Concordia Lutheran Church.

Bill Maples

KNOXVILLE -- Bill Maples, 75, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, at his home.
He retired from the /{Knoxville News-Sentinel/} in 1987 and continued to cover religion for the newspaper on a part-time basis.
He studied journalism at the University of Missouri and his first job in the field was as city editor of the /{Kingsport Times-News/} from 1948-50. From 1950-59, he worked at /{The (Nashville) Tennessean/} as a reporter, promotion director and columnist. He was managing editor of the /{Bristol Herald Courier/} from 1959-62, when he joined the /{News-Sentinel/} as a copy editor.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in Europe and rising to the rank of sergeant. He participated in the Normandy landing on D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville.
In 1989, Mr. Maples was awarded the Religious Service Award of the Knoxville Round Table of the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Maples; a daughter, Michelle Knoll of Bristol; two sons, Bruce Maples of Louisville, Ky., and David Maples of Manassas, Va.; and a sister, Dorrel Hanks of Springfield, Mo.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday in Knoxville.
Berry Funeral Homes Lynnhurst Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hubert S. McCrady

ABINGDON -- Hubert S. McCrady of Highlands Retirement Village, formerly of Damascus, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County, Va., and a son of the late Hugh Lee and Bessie Lee Rosenbaum McCrady. He was retired from Raytheon Corp. and attended Laurel Community Church in Damascus.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Cornett McCrady; three sisters, Mabel M. Johnson of Albemarle, N.C., Mildred M. Akard of Kingsport and Marthalyn M. Greer of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Harry Layell will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Damascus.
Among survivors is a special nephew, L.A. Wingard Jr. of Abingdon.
Pallbearers will be George W. Baker, David Kiser, Eddie Evans, Bob Widener, Bill McCall and Melvin Ritchie. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Martin, Jim Osborne, Connie Mack Steele, the men's Sunday School class of Laurel Community Church and Dr. Theodore T. Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Johnson Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Laurel Community Church in Damascus.

Lelia P. Mullins

CLINTWOOD -- Lelia Pauline Mullins, 79, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at her home.
She was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, a member of Pine Creek Freewill Baptist Church and the widow of Guy "Fish Hook" Mullins.
Surviving are seven sons, Fred Allen Mullins, James Everett Mullins, Joe Blaine Mullins, Larry Lee Mullins, Jerry Dean Mullins, David Harrison Mullins and James Eugene Mullins, all of Clintwood; two daughters, Barbara Sue Mullins of Stafford and Pamela Ann Colley of Abingdon; four brothers, Bill Davis, Clyde Ed Davis and Herman Davis, all of Clintwood, and Clifford Davis of Abingdon; 22 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Pine Creek Freewill Baptist Church by Mullins Funeral Home. The Rev. Franklin Hall and pastors Manie Strouth and Esley Ratliff will officiate. Burial will be in Mullins Cemetery, Route 2, Cutter Creek section, Clintwood. Clarence Dingus will officiate.
Mrs. Mullins was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mertie Johnson.
Pallbearers will be Jr. Johnson, Joey Mullins, Steve Mullins, Greg Mullins, Brad Mullins, Johnny Mullins and Jake Mullins. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Fleming and Joe McFall.
The family will receive friends at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, where a service will be held at 7 p.m.
Mullins Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Pat Neal

ABINGDON -- Phillip P. "Pat" Neal, 44, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a son of Hubert and Ella Neal of Abingdon. He was a member of Abingdon Bible Church and co-owner of Abingdon Laundry Co.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Kim Montgomery Neal; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Steve (Angie) Long of Watauga, Tenn; two brothers, Dr. Roger Neal and Jack Neal, both of Abingdon; two sisters, Sandra Walters of Abingdon and Deborah Cox of Dublin.
Graveside services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. in Forest Hills Memory Gardens by Farris Funeral Service. The Revs. Paul Bufford and Greg Alderman will officiate.
There will be no visitation at the funeral home. Friends may call at he home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, c//o Lynn Manweiler, 18129 N. Fork River Road, Abingdon, VA 24210.
Farris Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Rachel E. Richards

Rachel Easley Richards, 69, of 1729 Holston Drive, Bristol, Tenn., died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was born in Bristol Tennessee, a daughter of the late Elizabeth Lipscomb Easley and Robert M. "Slim" Easley. She was a graduate of Bristol Tennessee High School, received an undergraduate degree from the University of Tennessee and a master's degree from Columbia University in New York City. She was a teacher in the Bristol Tennessee Public School System for five years and later at Virginia Intermont College for 28 years. She was a sustaining member of Blue Stocking Club and a Paul Harris Fellow and honorary member of the Rotary Club of Bristol.
Surviving are her husband, Joe W. Richards; two daughters, Carol Richards and Mary Jo Shires, both of Knoxville; and a brother, Dick Easley of Bristol; two grandchildren; a niece; and two nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in First United Methodist Church, 322 Vance Drive, Bristol, Tenn., by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The Revs. John Farmer and Williams Slagle will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Burial in Shelby Hills Cemetery will be private.
Among survivors are grandchildren Katie and Preston Shires, son-in-law Kevin Shires and sister-in-law Claudette Easley.
The family of Mrs. Richards, who died of cancer, wishes to thank Dr. B.Y. Cowan Jr. and his staff and the staff of Wellmont Hospice House for their care and concern during her illness.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church or Virginia Intermont College.

Nell F. Smithson

Funeral services for Nell F. Smithson will be conducted Monday at 6 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. Ministers Wayne Emory and Dave Charlton will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Shipley Cemetery. The Rev. Cass Farrior will officiate.
Mrs. Smithson, 87, of 423 Sandbar Road, Bristol, Tenn., died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House.
She was a lifelong resident of Sullivan County, a daughter of the late Hamilton "Ham" and Katie Duncan. She was a homemaker, a member of Hickory Tree Union Church and the widow of James S. Smithson.
Surviving are a son, Charles Smithson of Bristol Tennessee; a daughter, Louise Grimes of Bristol Tennessee; a brother, Joe Duncan of Shady Valley, Tenn.; a sister, Martha Landore of Bristol Tennessee; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Smithson was also preceded in death by a son, James H. Smithson; a daughter, Eva Sue Necessary; a grandson, Jeffery Lynn Smithson; six brothers; a sister; and a son-in-law, Harold E. Grimes.
Among survivors are grandchildren Mark Smithson, Patty Bunn, Vicki Corey, David King, Lisa Taylor, Cindy Miller and Laura Rapp.
Pallbearers will be Don Duncan, Ron Duncan, J.W. Smithson, Halvie Roberts, Doug Duncan and Charlie Worley. Honorary pallbearer will be Clarence Miller.
The family will receive friends after the funeral service Monday in Weaver Funeral Home.

Clayton William Stowers

Clayton William Stowers, 69, of Bristol Tennessee died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Bristol Nursing Home.
He was born in West Virginia, a son of the late Charles William and Goldie Kathryn Huffman Stowers. He had lived in Bristol since 1969, was the widower of Betty Patrick Stowers and a former employee of Virginia Woodworking Co.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Houser of Bluff City and Sharon Nunn of Bristol; a stepson, Jerry Wyatt of Bristol; two sisters, Jeraldine Totten and Loretta Scott, both of Bristol; four brothers, Stewart Stowers of Abingdon, Berlin Stowers and Cecil Stowers, all of Greeneville, Tenn., and Willard Stowers of Bristol; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the graveside in Pine Grove Cemetery in Baileyton, Tenn., by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. David Houser will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.

Marie N. Thacker

HAYSI -- Funeral services for Marie Nowlin Thacker will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Haysi Funeral Home. The Revs. Richard Hicks and Darrell Thacker will officiate. Burial will be in Thacker Family Cemetery at Big Ridge.
Mrs. Thacker, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Monday in the funeral home, where a service will be held at 7 p.m.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Thompson

BEE, Va. -- Edward "Red" Thompson, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Russell County, a son of the late Lee and Martha Ball Thompson. He lived most of his life in the Buchanan and Dickenson counties. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a retired coal miner. He was of the Holiness faith and attended Duty Church of God. He was the widower of Emma Gay Rasnake Thompson.
Surviving are seven daughters, Mrs. Dawyer (Rose) Rose of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Mrs. Clell (Linda) Farmer of Abingdon, Mrs. William (Darlene) Breeding of Davenport, Lona Sullivan of Bristol Tennessee, Nancy Compton of Bee, Mrs. Sam (Patty) Winegar of Kingsport and Mrs. Randall (Rita) Tiller of Council; three sons, Lonnie Thompson of Bee, Larry Thompson and Michael Thompson, both of Big A Mountain; two sisters, Margie Edwards of Fredericksburg and Virgie Dixon of Ohio; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roy Lee Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon with military honors by American Legion John Ratliff Post 164 of Grundy.
Mr. Thompson was also preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Thompson and Willard Thompson; and two sisters, Edna Hornburger and Lona Boyd.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday in Honaker Funeral Home.
