John L. Stanley

WISE -- John Larkin Stanley, 68, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home.
He was of the Protestant faith and a retired coal miner.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Ramsey Stanley; four daughters, Rosalind Gail Mullins, Rebecca Marie Hall and Phyllis Ann Powers, all of Wise, and Martha Jane Riner of Norton; three sons, Alvin Stanley, Jeff Stanley and Terry Stanley, all of Wise; three stepdaughters, Yvonne Whitaker, Sheila Pippin Aker and Joyce Miller, all of Wise; a stepson, Charlie Ramsey of Pound; four brothers, Curtis Stanley of Front Royal, James Stanley and Harold Alvin Stanley, both of Wise, and Roger Stanley of Manassas; 16 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and seven step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at 11 a.m. in Sturgill Funeral Home Chapel in Wise. The Rev. Robert Fultz Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

Carolyn Terry Stevens

Carolyn Terry Stevens of 815 Piedmont Ave., Bristol, Va., owner and president of a Bristol potato chip company that operated for 67 years, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House. She was 54.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a daughter of the late Payton and Oralee Greene Terry. She was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and East Tennessee State University. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and attended the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, where she was a member of the Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study. She was a former teacher in the Bristol Virginia School System and a former realtor.
Terry's Inc., which had made potato chips since Mrs. Stevens' father started the company in 1932, ceased operation in June.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Edward Stevens; four daughters, Terry S. Henner of Atlanta, Tracy Stevens and Julie S. Little, both of Bristol Virginia, and Jennifer Stevens of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Jason Stevens of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, her identical twin Connie Bundy of Abingdon and Patty Kelley of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, John Terry of Bristol Tennessee; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in State Street United Methodist Church by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Dearing and Brad Stout will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Terry.
Among survivors are sister-in-law Paige Terry; brother-in-law John Bundy; daughter-in-law Lisa Jacobs Stevens; and sons-in-law Joe Henner and Mike Little.
Mrs. Stevens will best be remembered as a great mother and grandmother and a friend to many.
Pallbearers will be Jay Jones, David Odum, Bob Rose, Duke Kegley, Shawn Asbury and Bill Jackson.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Oakley-Cook Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to State Street United Methodist Church or the Vineyard Christian Fellowship.

Marie N. Thacker

HAYSI -- Funeral services for Marie Nowlin Thacker will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Haysi Funeral Home. The Revs. Richard Hicks and Darrell Thacker will officiate. Burial will be in Thacker Family Cemetery at Big Ridge.
Mrs. Thacker, 72, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Dickenson County Medical Center.
Haysi Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Thompson

BEE, Va. -- Funeral services for Edward "Red" Thompson will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roy Lee Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon with military honors by American Legion John Ratliff Post 164 of Grundy.
Mr. Thompson, 77, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, at his home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
Honaker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roy Lee Worley

Graveside services for Roy Lee Worley will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Susong Cemetery.
Mr. Worley, 78, of Bristol Virginia, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000.
Pallbearers will be Mark Worley, Barry Worley, Chris Worley, Chris Sharin, Terry lane and Jerry Campbell.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jesse T. Baines

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. -- Jesse Thomas Baines of 722 Jarnigan Ave. died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at his home.
He was a son of the late Goldie and Elmer Baines and the widower of Golden Baines. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and retired as terminal manager for Mason Dixon in Kingsport, Bristol and Morristown after 36 years of service. He was a member of Morristown Baptist Tabernacle Church and a life member of VFW Post 9683 of Morristown.
Surviving are two daughters, Lynn Barnette of Bristol Tennessee and Marty Collins of Mosheim; a sister, Mildred Anderson of Fall Branch; a brother, the Rev. Miles D. Baines of Fall Branch; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home. The Revs. Ralph Benfield and Miles D. Baines will officiate. Graveside services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in National Cemetery in Mountain Home.
Mr. Baines was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul H. Baines and Beryl S. Baines.
Among survivors are sons-in-law Charlie Barnette of Bristol Tennessee and Kyle Collins of Mosheim; and special caretaker Denise Barrett of Morristown.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday in Fall Branch Chapel of Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home.

June F. Beverly

KINGSPORT -- June Fleming Beverly, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
She was born in Dickenson County, a daughter of the late Tandy and Hulda Fleming. She was a member of Clintwood Baptist Church and Case-Rebekah Lodge. She was the widow of Fitz Beverly.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. William Kendrick will officiate. Burial will be in Charlie Sowards Memorial Cemetery in Flemingtown section, Route 3, Clintwood.
Mrs. Beverly was also preceded in death by three sisters, Maxie Smith, Gracy Mullins and Opal Mullins; and six brothers, Tilden, A.A. "Fox", Hurst, Jack, Wayne and Victor Fleming.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Millard Artrip, Gary Artrip, Jerry Artrip, Clinton Phillips and Gerald Triplett.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday in Clintwood Funeral Home.

Cleo M. Braman

APOPKA, Fla. -- Cleo Maggard Braman died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, in Florida.
She was a daughter of the late Charlie Maggard and Alta Fleming Maggard. She was the widow of John Braman.
Surviving are a son, Gregory Cantrell of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Margaret Nowell of Apopka and Annette Cobb of Port Orange; three brothers, Paul Maggard of Apopka, Amos Maggard of Pound, Va., and Carl Maggard of Ocklawatta.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Dewey Memorial Cemetery in Pound by Baker Funeral Home. The Rev. Roy Vanover will officiate.
Mrs. Braman was also preceded in death by a sister, Earnesteen Maggard; and a brother, Bruce Maggard.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ocie B. Carty

CLINTWOOD -- Funeral services for Ocie B. Carty will be conducted Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Peuther Chapel Freewill Baptist Church. Ministers Joe Glenn Sluss and Lynn Vanover will officiate. The body will be taken to the church an hour before services. Burial will be in Carty Cemetery, Route 4, Clintwood.
Mrs. Carty, 93, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital Extend Care.
Pallbearers will be nephews.
Clintwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert R. Casteel

Robert Russell Casteel died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Weaver Funeral Home.

Sallie S. Cordle

CEDAR BLUFF -- Sallie Ann Stillwell Cordle, 78, of 704 Middle Creek Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Deskins, a daughter of the late Charley and Malindie Coleman Stillwell, both Buchanan County natives. She had lived in the Raven area most of her life and was of the Holiness faith. She was the widow of Harley C. Cordle.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Tommy (Gaynell) Armes of Cedar Bluff; two sons, Melvin Junior Stilwell of Raven and Charlie Cordle of the home; two sisters, Barbara Short and Mae Newberry, both of Raven; a brother, Clarence Stilwell of Raven; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Ralph Horton will officiate. Burial will be in Richardson Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge, near Raven.
Mrs. Cordle was also preceded in death by two brothers, Elihu and Dewey Stilwell.
Among survivors are daughter-in-law Ruth Stillwell of Raven; grandchildren, Crystal Armes, Tammie Armes, Charlie Cordle Jr., Clifford Stilwell and Laranda Stilwell; and a great-grandchild, Joseph Cordle.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday in Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
