John T. Keister Jr.
FRANKLIN, Tenn. -- The Rev. John Taylor Keister Jr., 91, died Sunday, Jan. 30, 2000, in Claiborne Hughes Heath Center in Franklin.
He was born in Washington, D.C. He received a bachelor of arts degree from Gettysburg College in 1931, a bachelor of divinity from Gettysburg Seminary in 1934 and attended Oberlin Graduate School of Theology 1937-38. He was mission developer in Maryland, Ohio, organizer-pastor of Holy Trinity Lutheran in Nashville 1945-73, served Faith Lutheran and Christ Lutheran in Bristol Tennessee 1973-86 and Sinking Springs Lutheran Church in Greene County, Tenn.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Tullahoma, Tenn., a member and corresponding secretary of Lions International, a recipient of Melvin
Jones Award and a life-time blood donor of the American Red Cross. He was the widower of Margaret Beall Evans Keister.
Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth K. Short of Franklin, Mrs. H. Lee (Ann K.) Brumback of Littlestown, Pa., and Mrs. John G. (Emilie K.) Finney of Brooksville, Fla.; a son, John T. Keister III of Ontario, Canada; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Memorial services will be held Sunday in Tullahoma.

Funeral services for Mary Lou Stapleton Lyon will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Cass Farrior will officiate. Burial will be in Susong Cemetery.
Mrs. Lyon, 55, of Bristol Virginia, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her home.
She was born in Knoxville, a daughter of Mable Maggard Stapleton and the late Delmer Stapleton. She was a lifelong resident of the Bristol area and was of the Methodist faith. She was employed with Bristol Memorial Hospital from 1971-88.
Surviving, besides her mother, are a daughter, Tina Norton of Bristol Tennessee; two sons, Charles
Williams of Bristol Tennessee and Joe Lyon of Bristol Virginia; a sister, Lisa Stanley of Sevierville, Tenn.; six brothers, Del Stapleton of Pinellas, Fla., Jim Stapleton of Sparta, Tenn., Curtis Stapleton and Wayne Stapleton, both of Maryville, Tenn., Jackie Stapleton of Grady, Ariz., and Kent Stapleton of Sevierville; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be her brothers, Del Stapleton, Jim Stapleton, Curtis Stapleton, Wayne Stapleton, Jackie Stapleton and Kent Stapleton.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Akard Funeral Home.
Mildred McGuire
ABINGDON -- Mildred McGuire, 102, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in an Abingdon nursing home.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands.
Edward Neil Meade
PORTAGE, Ind. -- Edward Neil Meade, 79, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Porter Memorial Hospital in Valearaiso, Ind.
He was born in Indiaola, Pa., a son of the late Charles Emmett Meade and Neila Franklin Meade. He had lived in Portage since 1959 and was employed as a tool and die maker for Bud Company. He was a Med Corps veteran of World War II and of the Baptist faith.
Surviving are his wife, Kathleen Kiser; a son, Joseph Meade of Portage; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Jackson of Chesterton, Kimberly Meade of Elk Grove, Ill., Mrs. Steven (Christiane)
Williams of Portage; and Kathy Benda of Naperville, Ill.; a brother, Harry Meade of Portage; three sisters, Flora Hinsdale of New Oxford, Pa., and Helen Hale and Margaret Dunwitte; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday in Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel. Pastor Steve
Williams will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 3 p.m. until time of service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Mr. Meade was also preceded in death by four brothers, George and Daniel Nixon and Jack and Curtis Meade; and a sister, Carolyn Dunn.

Raymond W. Morgan
Raymond W. Morgan, 82, formerly of Elizabethton, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in The Wexford House in Kingsport.
He was born in Rutherford County, N.C., a son of the late Addie Gordon and Myrtle Weeks Morgan. He was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Rutherford County and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in England, France and Germany. He retired as a bridge construction superintendent and was a former member and deacon at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elizabethton.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Charles Morgan; a daughter, Susan M. Miller of Kingsport; a sister, Laura Koon of Marion, N.C.; four brothers, A.G. Morgan of Rutherford County, Charles Morgan of Bostic, N.C., Gene Morgan of Mobile, Ala., and Clyde Max Morgan of Swannanoa, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3:30 p.m. at the graveside in Mountain View Cemetery by Blevins Funeral Home of Bristol Virginia. The Rev. Frank Crawford will officiate.
Among survivors is a brother-in-law, Bill Charles of Bristol Virginia.
Friends may call any time at the home of daughter Susan Miller, 5149 Spring Hill Drive, Kingsport.

SEVEN MILE FORD, Va. -- John A. Phipps Jr., 63, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
He was a 1956 graduate of Chilhowie High School, a member of Chilhowie Baptist Church and retired from Brunswick after 36 years of service.
Surviving are his wife, Lorretta Adkins Phipps; a daughter, Deidra Mathena of Seven Mile Ford; a son, Mark Andrew Phipps of Seven Mile Ford; a granddaughter, Kelly Joe Berry of Seven Mile Ford; and a grandson, Jamie Lee Phipps of Seven Mile Ford.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Marion Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Chuck Herrell, Neville Mozingo and Larry

Mrs. Ratliff, 61, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
She was born in Keystone, W.Va., a daughter of Josephine M. Chernutan of English, Ind., and the late Panfel Chernutan. She grew up in Camp Creek, W.Va., and had lived in Abingdon since 1972. She was the widow of Carl J. Blevins.
Surviving, besides her mother, are her husband, James E. Ratliff; five sisters, Elizabeth Griffith of English, Julie Seward of Townsend, Del., Patricia Matherly of St. Georges, Del., Victoria McDonough of Camp Creek and Veronica Shreves of New Castle, Del.; six brothers, Paul Chernutan and Peter Cline (Chernutan), both of Marietta, Ga., Stanley Chernutan of Rockford, Ill., John Chernutan of Shady Springs, W.Va., Frank Chernutan of Cool Ridge, W.Va., and Julius Chernutan of Shreves, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Bob Seward, Wayne Chernutan, Jeff Kauff, Brian Sullivan, Donald Johnson, Jeffrey Hickman and Carl Griffith.

James E. Richardson Sr.
LOWELL, Ind. -- James Edward Richardson Sr., 64, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000.
He was a son of Pauline Richardson of Roselawn and the late Anderson Richardson. He was employed with LTV Steel in East Chicago for 40 years.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife of 42 years, Clara Richardson; six sons, James Richardson Jr. of Westville, Ind., Cole Richardson of Tinley Park, Ill., Dean Richardson and Mark Richardson, both of Lake Village, Ind.; Matthew Richardson of Lafayette, Ind., and Arlie Richardson of Lowell; two daughters, Mrs. Matthew (Jane) of Valparaiso Ind., and Mrs. Jeff (Diana) of Shreveport, La.; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

NEW CASTLE, Va. -- Eva Meadows Smith, 92, formerly of the Marvin section of Buchanan County, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in a Blacksburg hospital.
She was born in Buchanan County, a daughter of the late Meshack and Alta Vance Meadows. She was the widow of Rufus McKinnly Meadows and Calup Smith.
Surviving are five sons, Eddie Meadows and Amos Lee Meadows, both of Craig County, Leonard Meadows of Baltimore, Earnest Meadows of Belfast and Jimmy Meadows of Claypool Hill; four daughters, Vergie McGuigan of Baltimore, Ruby McGuigan of Chestefield, Alice
Smith of Richlands and Eunice Strouth of Baptist Valley; 35 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and 25 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Revs. Ancil Childress and Roland Stump will officiate. Burial will be in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery in Richlands.

Smith was also preceded in death by five sons, Rufus Meadows Jr., Howard Daniel Meadows, Clarence Meadows, Willard Jay Meadows and Fred Allen Meadows; a daughter, Ethel Osborne; five brothers, John Meadows, James Meadows, Loran Meadows, Oliver Meadows and Ken Meadows; two sisters, Ella White and Sarah Newberry; a grandson, Wayne Osborne; and a great-granddaughter.
Among survivors are a special daughter-in-law and caregiver, Della Meadows; and a special granddaughter, Angela Boyd. Pallbearers will be Richard Boyd, Jackie Meadows, Bobby Coleman, Ronnie Coleman, Eddie Meadows II, Jimmy Meadows,
Carter Lee Strouth, Donnie Strouth, Paul Meadows, Paul McGuigan, Danny Meadows, Kenny Meadows, Ricky Meadows and Grant Meadows.
