Tora Mae Smith

CASTLEWOOD -- Funeral services for Tora Mae Smith will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John A. Kiser will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mrs. Smith, 63, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law, grandsons and Sammy Taylor.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Castlewood Funeral Home.

Waymond L. Begley

KINGSPORT -- Waymond Luther Begley, 64, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was a son of the late Lillie Kilgore Begley and Luther Mitchell Begley. He was a 1952 graduate of Sullivan High School and received a bachelor of science degree and master's degree from East Tennessee State University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving two years.
Mr. Begley was a local antique dealer for more than 30 years and a lifelong educator. He was employed with the Sullivan County School System in 1958 and taught seventh grade social studies for seven years. From 1969-72, he was a teaching principal at Orebank Elementary School and was principal of Sullivan Elementary School from 1976 until his retirement in 1989.
Surviving are his wife, Peggy Jackson Begley; three sisters, Mrs. Larry (Henrietta) Hixon and Hattie Harmon, both of Kingsport, and Helen Begley of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. F.M. Brown will officiate, with eulogy by J. Craft Akard. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Begley was a collector and avid reader of books. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.
Among survivors are a special sister-in-law and her husband, Phyllis and Jerry Williams.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.

Homer J. Bennett

WISE -- Homer James Bennett, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in St. Mary's Hospital in Norton.
He was a retired mechanic for the U-Haul Corp. for 32 years, a U.S. Army peacetime veteran and a member of the American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Bennett; a son, James (Kenny) Bennett of Chesapeake; two daughters, Rita Gibson of Norfolk and Tonia Alexander of Raymond, N.H.; a stepson, Robert J. Rosenbalm III of Norfolk; two stepdaughters, Tracy Rosenbalm of Norfolk and Terri Roux of Concord, N.H.; a brother, Dana Bennett of Richwood, W.Va.; three sisters, Goldie Woods of Gilboa, W.Va., Iva Waugh of Chesapeake and Nettie Stephenson of Windsor; two half-brothers, Paul Bennett of Fishersville and Richard Bennett of Staunton; a half-sister, Gertrude Bennett of Staunton; nine grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. James Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Wise Cemetery.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Saturday in Sturgill Funeral Home.

June F. Beverly

KINGSPORT -- Funeral services for June Fleming Beverly will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. William Kendrick will officiate. Burial will be in Charlie Sowards Memorial Cemetery in Flemingtown secton, Route 3, Clintwood.
Mrs. Beverly, 88, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be nephews. Honorary pallbearers will be Millard Artrip, Gary Artrip, Jerry Artrip, Clinton Phillips and Gerald Triplett.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service Friday in Clintwood Funeral Home.

Bernice S. Cadle

Bernice K. Shelton Cadle, 81, of Bristol Virginia died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in NHC Healthcare.
She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a retired employee of Westbury Fashions, with 28 years of service. She was a member of the ILGW Union, the Bristol Womens Bowling Association and attended Kingsway Baptist Church. She was the widow of Herbert Buster "Buck" Cadle Sr.
Surviving are three sons, James R. "Jim" Cadle of Bristol Tennessee, Herbert Cadle Jr. of Mountain City and Billy E. Doss of Bristol Virginia; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 8 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Donald Page and Wayne Lambert will officiate. Graveside services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Susong Cemetery.
Mrs. Cadle bowled in the Stardust Tuesday Night Bowling League at Interstate Bowl for many years.
Pallbearers will be Bart Cadle, Brian Cadle, Harvey Rector, Gene Lilly, Dave Burnette and Ricky Rector. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. Friday before the service in Akard Funeral Home.

Cyril Carver

GLADE SPRING -- Cyril Carver, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Cleveland, Tenn.
Funeral arrangements will be announced by Farris Funeral Service of Abingdon.

Robert R. Casteel

Memorial services for Robert R. "Bob" Casteel will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. John Rayburn will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Mr. Casteel, 62, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his home.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 p.m. Friday before the memorial service in Weaver Funeral Home.

Owen Caudill

CASTLEWOOD -- Owen Caudill, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
He was born in Russell County, a son of the late John and Cora Mae Scott Caudill. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA and Castlewood Masonic Lodge 231 AF&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Irene Caudill; five daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Brenda) Warner of Lebanon, Mrs. Rick (Diane) Jenkins of Nora, Mrs. Martin (Sharon) Burke of Nickelsville, Mrs. Scott (Rhonda) Gilliam of Wise and Mrs. Michael (Jacqueline) Hampton of Castlewood; three sons, John Caudill of Coeburn, Owen Eugene "Turtle" Caudill of Bluff City and Donnie Caudill of Waynesburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Ann Phillips of West Virginia and Marie Prater of Florida; three brothers, Palmer Dickerson of North Carolina, Thurman Dickerson Jr. of Kegley, W.Va., and Jack Dickerson of Fredericksburg; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Myers Vicars and Lester Sexton will officiate. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood with military rites by Lebanon VFW Post 9864.
Mr. Caudill, who went to be with the Lord on Feb. 2, 2000, was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Cooper and Josephine Thompson.
The family would like to thank the doctors, the staff of the second floor, PCCU nurses and Sandra of Holston Valley Medical Center for taking care of my husband and our father.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Castlewood Masonic Lodge 231 AF&AM and UMWA Local 1256.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Castlewood Masonic Lodge 231 AF&AM.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Chandler

DANTE -- Jerry Chandler, 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee.
He was born in Dickenson County, a son of the late Guy and Inez Martin Chandler. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Chandler; two daughters, Karen Chandler and Kathy Poteet, both of Westminister, Md.; six sisters, Claudia Thesis of Topeka, Kan., Norma Honaker of Alexandria, Joanne Stathes of Silver Spring, Md., Charlene Clark of Madison Heights, Mich., Linda Eisenbarth of Fairfax Station and Kay Omalley of Fallston, Md.; three brothers, Mitchell Chandler and Lyndall Chandler, both of Dante, and Gordon Chandler of Madison Heights; two grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. Elders Steve Mosca and Nick Trevaskis will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mr. Chandler was also preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Hines; and two brothers, Barry Chandler and Kyle Chandler.
Among survivors are grandsons Michael and Adam.
Pallbearers will be Frank Eisenbarth, Robert Clark, Garland Cornett, Danny Cornett, Clyde Cornett Sr., Dean Cornett, Clyde Cornett Jr. and Jerry Cornett. Honorary pallbearers will be W.C. Phillips, Jimmy Holbrook, Mitchell Chandler, John Phillips, Toby Counts, Bob Counts and Carmel Fuller.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in Castlewood Funeral Home.

Sallie S. Cordle

CEDAR BLUFF -- Funeral services for Sallie Ann Stillwell Cordle will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Ralph Horton will officiate. Burial will be in Richardson Family Cemetery on Horton Ridge near Raven.
Mrs. Cordle, 78, of 704 Middle Creek Road, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, at her home.
Pallbearers will be relatives and friends.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Earl W. Denton

ABINGDON -- Earl Washington Denton, 76, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at his home.
He was born in Washington County, Va., a son of the late Daniel and Ethel Cross Denton. He was a general contractor and a member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret Foran Denton; two brothers, Carson Denton of Bristol Virginia and Dewey Denton of Ridgeville, Ind.; five sisters, Willie French of Mount Vernon, Ky., and Ackie Rosenbaum, Nancy Barker, Linda Schaffer and Charlotte Montgomery, all of Bristol Virginia; a half-sister, Matlee Crosswhite of Bristol Virginia; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Bob McCormick and Jerry Eggers will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens with military honors by Patton-Crosswhite VFW 6975.
Among survivors are a sister-in-law, Pauline Denton of Bristol Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Claude Worrell, Velmer Huff, Pete Faith, Clint Asbury, Clayton Lockhart, Joe Tolliver, Emmitt Farmer and Warren Charles. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Farris Funeral Service.
