Henry Dotson

WEST SALEM, Ohio -- Funeral services for Henry Dotson will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Singleton Funeral Service Chapel in Cedar Bluff. The Rev. Max Linkous will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens Cemetery in Claypool Hill, Va.
Mr. Dotson, 85, formerly of Tazewell County, Va., died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in a Westview Manor Nursing Home.
He was born in Cleveland, Va., a son of the late Beacom and Nannie Musick Dotson. He was a member of the UMWA and the CCC. He was the widower of Littie Didama Duty Dotson.
Surviving are two daughters, Christine Pierce of Shreve and Mrs. Elbert (Betty) Pierce of Big Prairie; a son, Roger Dotson of West Salem; a brother, Arbua Dotson of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Stella Rasnake of Granite Falls, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dotson was also preceded in death by five brothers, Clovis, Sam, Emmit, Chick and Dellie Dotson; two sisters, Nora Dotson and Maggie Belle Fields; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
Pallbearers will be friends.
Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in Singleton Funeral Service.

Emitt Edwards

DENTON, N.C. -- Emitt Edwards, 69, of 359 South Jones St. died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Rowan Regional Medical Center.
He was born in Wise County, a daughter of Sallie Hicks Edwards of Denton and the late Edward Garland Edwards. He was a retired coal miner and a member of the Holiness Mission in Biscoe.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Patty McConell Edwards; six sons, Tim Edwards, Eddie Joe Edwards, Ken Edwards, Jerry Edwards, Wayne Edwards and Sammy Edwards, all of Denton; two daughters, Brenda Ingram of Denton and Glenda McDonald of Lexington; three brothers, Wilburn Edwards of Denton, and James Edwards and John Edwards, both of Lexington; three sisters, Virginia "Virgie" Duty of Asheboro, Betty McCarn of Lexington and Shirley Fritts of Denton; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held in Denton.
Briggs Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert M. Evans Sr.

SALTVILLE -- Robert Montgomery Evans Sr., 81, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital in Marion.
Surviving are a son, Robert Evans Jr. of Macon, Ga.; four daughters, Margaret Hayden Shea of Chilhowie, Sheila Evans Fullen of Saltville, Teresa Greer of Glade Spring and Betty E. Call of Marion; two brothers, Will Evans and Thomas Evans Jr., both of Saltville; three sisters, Maxine Smith of Chilhowie, Lois Kestner of Saltville and Alice Ford of Akron, Ohio; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Kyle French will officiate. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home.

Jimmie Allen Ferguson

HONAKER -- Funeral services for Jimmie Allen Ferguson will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in Honaker Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Doug Smith and Gary Hubbard will officiate. Burial will be in Frank Smith Cemetery on Big A Mountain near Honaker.
Mr. Ferguson, 53, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice in Bristol Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be nephews and friends.
Friends may call any time at Honaker Funeral Home.

Eva J. Hartsock

LEBANON -- Eva Johnson Hartsock, 97, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Russell County Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Andrew P. and Lilly Harmon Johnson. She was the oldest member of Bethany United Methodist Church. She was a member of Gate City Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 116 and a former member and past treasurer of Bethany Sewing Circle.
Surviving are her husband, J.P. Hartsock; two daughters, Lillian Ann Hartsock of Lebanon and Mrs. Bill (Judy) Briscoe of Abingdon; a son, Andrew P. Hartsock of Lebanon; four grandchildren; and three great-grandsons.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Bethany United Methodist Church. The Revs. Darrell Fletcher and Robert White will officiate. Music will be by the Jackson Trio. Burial will be in Free Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Hartsock was also preceded in death by three brothers, George Johnson, Carson Johnson and Fred Johnson.
Among survivors are grandchildren Carol White of Abingdon and Kathy Easterly, Brian Hartsock and Stephanie Buchanan, all of Lebanon; and great-grandsons Josh Jessee, Dakota White and Cole Buchanan.
Pallbearers will be Floyd Johnson, Bobby Johnson, Aaron Buchanan, Gary Easterly, Mark White, Jerry Jessee, Don Allgood and Jeff McAmis.
The family will receive friends after 6 p.m. Friday in Russell County Funeral Home.

Mattie B. Henderson

NICKELSVILLE, Va. -- Graveside services for Mattie B. Henderson will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood. Those attending should meet at the cemetery at 10:45 a.m.
Mrs. Henderson, 87, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center.
Pallbearers will be Ray Corder, John Tomlinson, Steve Corder, Greg Corder, Scott Corder, Tyler Tomlinson, Derek Corder and Wesley Corder.
Gate City Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edna V. Houser

Edna "Sue" V. Houser, 57, of Bristol Virginia died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center.
She was co-owner of Houser Electric and was employed with Thrifty Market for 30 years.
Surviving are her husband, Cecil Houser; two daughters, Cecilia Ann Houser of the home and Lisa Joan Price of Bristol Virginia; a son, Charles Houser of Bristol Virginia; four sisters, Katherine Harless and Betty Leonard, both of Bristol Virginia, and Dorothy Hayden and Joyce Self, both of Abingdon; five brothers, Glen Hall, Rodger Hall, Richard Hall, Tom Hall and Garland Hall, all of Bristol Virginia; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Robert H. Abel will officiate. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
Among survivors are grandchildren Corey Price, Daniel Houser and Mathew Houser; and a special friend, Barbie Gentry of Bristol.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Hobbs, Ricky Houser, Leon Barnett, Larry Gentry, Martin Houser Jr., Chris Moretz and Jerry Opengari. Honorary pallbearers will be George Houser, William Felty, Ralph Moore and Don Cox.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Akard Funeral Home.

Steve Lacy

Steve Lacy, a former businessman and longtime coach and educator, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Johnson City Medical Center Hospital. He was 91.
He was born in Sullivan County and lived most of his life in Johnson City, formerly at 2101 Christian Lane, 8-S. He graduated cum laude in 1931 from Milligan College. Following graduation, he served two years at Mary Hughes High School as athletic director, coach, teacher and principal. He was named athletic director, head football coach and girl's basketball coach at Milligan in 1933 and served for 16 years. Mr. Lacy left Milligan to begin a business career that would include the wholesale oil business, fast food franchises, trucking and real estate. He served on Milligan College Board of Advisers and the Board of Trustees where he was chairman. He was honored in 1975 with the naming of Steve Lacy Field House at Milligan College .
He was a member of First Christian Church and Johnson City Kiwanis Club.
He was inducted into the Milligan Sports Hall of Fame, Northeast Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame and was given the American Award by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his wife, Martha Elizabeth Cross Lacy; a son, Michael Stephen Lacy of Johnson City; six grandchildren, Gloria Dudney, Stephen M. Lacy, Andrew M. Lacy, Alexandra T. Lacy and Victoria A. Lacy, all of Johnson City and Robert M. Lacy of Knoxville; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in First Christian Church. Drs. Michael Shannon, Gary Woodman and Eugene Wigginton will officiate. Burial will be in Monte Vista Burial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday in Appalachian Funeral Home.

Bessie Lawson

Fannie E. "Bessie" Lawson, 89, formerly of Williamsburg, Ky., died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Greystone Health Care Center.
She was a daughter of the late Robert and Lizzie Raines and had lived in Bristol for one and a half years. She was a homemaker, a member of the Church of God and the widow of John W. Lawson.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John (Barbara) Lawson of Blountville and Mrs. Wayne (Mary) McKinney of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; a son, Lynn Moore of Bluff City; a brother, Bud Durham of Williamsburg, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Clara Simcox; four stepsons, Woody Lawson, John Lawson, L.B. Lawson and Everett Lawson; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 5 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel. J. Samuel "Samie" Rasnake will officiate. Visitation will follow the service.
Among survivors is a special niece, Jackie Cox.
The body will be taken to Williamsburg, Ky., where visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Ellison Funeral Home. Graveside services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. in Emlyn Cemetery in Williamsburg.
Weaver Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Mary Lou Stapleton Lyon

Funeral services for Mary Lou Stapleton Lyon will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in Akard Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Cass Farrior will officiate. Burial will be in Susong Cemetery.
Mrs. Lyon, 55, of Bristol Virginia, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at her home.
Pallbearers will be her brothers, Del Stapleton, Jim Stapleton, Curtis Stapleton, Wayne Stapleton, Jackie Stapleton and Kent Stapleton.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Lee Maxey

MARION -- Ronald Lee Maxey, 41, died at his home.
He was a son of Frank Lee Maxey and Ella Mae King.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Marion Funeral Home. The Rev. Edward Shack will officiate. A private burial will be set later.
Among survivors are several aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in Barnett's Marion Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Pleasant Hill Cemetery Trust Fund c//o Trigg Atwell, Treasurer, Route 2, Rural Retreat, VA 24368.
