Stanley E. Blair

BLOUNTVILLE - Stanley Everette Blair, 81, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
He was born in Hiltons in Scott County, Va., a son of the late John W. Blair and Beulah McMurray Blair. He had lived in Sullivan County most of his adult life. He was of the Baptist faith. He retired from Mason Dixon Freight Lines as a truck driver, after 35 years of service, and was also a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post 3382 and the widower of Elizabeth Tate Blair.
Surviving are his wife, Wanda Houser Blair; a daughter, Becky J. Blair of Blountville; two sons, Terry A. Blair and Stewart S. Blair, both of Blountville; a stepson, Roy Wayne Houser of Abingdon; a sister, Cornelia A. Rodefer of Blountville; two brothers, Paul Blair and James H. Blair, both of Blountville; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a step-granddaughter; a step-great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Blair was also preceded in death by three brothers, Edley R. Blair, Jasper Blair and Claude Blair.
military graveside rites will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Gunnings Cemetery by Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post 3382. Those attending should meet at the cemetery Sunday at 1:50 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Robert Carrier, Brian Fellars, Jerry Blair, Kenneth Blair, Stanley W. Blair and John Huffman. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Local 549.
Carter-Trent Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bernice S. Cadle

Graveside services for Bernice K. Shelton Cadle will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in Susong Cemetery.
Bernice K. Shelton Cadle, 81, of Bristol Virginia died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in NHC Healthcare.
Pallbearers will be Bart Cadle, Brian Cadle, Harvey Rector, Gene Lilly, Dave Burnette and Ricky Rector. Honorary pallbearers will be grandchildren and nephews.
Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Cyril Carver

GLADE SPRING -- Funeral services for Cyril J. Carver will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Glade Spring Presbyterian Church by Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon. The Rev. Timothy Bird will officiate. Burial will be in Old Glade Presbyterian Cemetery with military honors by Hardy Roberts VFW 7328 of Saltville.
Mr. Carver, 84, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Bradley Memorial Hospital in Cleveland, Tenn.
He was a son of the late Fred and Sara Carver. He was a retired educator in Virginia public schools and taught for 12 years in Alaska public schools. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Campaign as a tail gunman on B-17s.
Surviving are his wife, Lillian Carver; a son, Randy Carver of Cleveland, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Shawn Carver of Fords, N.J., Matthew Carver of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Suzanne Johnson of Cleveland, Tenn.; and a great-grandson, Damon Carver of Coco Beach.
Mr. Carver was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Kendall Carver.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday in Farris Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Salvation Army, 700 Spring St., Johnson City, TN 37605.

Owen Caudill

CASTLEWOOD -- Funeral services for Owen Caudill will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Myers Vicars and Lester Sexton will officiate. Entombment will be in the Chapel of Love Mausoleum in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood with military rites by Lebanon VFW Post 9864.
Mr. Caudill, 77, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
He was born in Kentucky, a son of the late John and Cora Mae Scott Caudill. He was a lifelong resident of Castlewood, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a retired coal miner and a member of UMWA and Castlewood Masonic Lodge 231 AF&AM.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Irene Caudill; five daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Brenda) Warner of Lebanon, Mrs. Rick (Diane) Jenkins of Nora, Mrs. Martin (Sharon) Burke of Nickelsville, Mrs. Scott (Rhonda) Gilliam of Wise and Mrs. Michael (Jacqueline) Hampton of Castlewood; three sons, John Caudill of Coeburn, Owen Eugene "Turtle" Caudill of Bluff City and Donnie Caudill of Waynesburg, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Ann Phillips of West Virginia and Marie Prater of Florida; three brothers, Palmer Dickerson of North Carolina, Thurman Dickerson Jr. of Kegley, W.Va., and Jack Dickerson of Fredericksburg; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Among survivors are daughters-in-law Brenda Caudill of Coeburn and Debbie Caudill of Waynesburg.
Mr. Caudill, who went to be with the Lord on Feb. 2, 2000, was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lillie Cooper and Josephine Thompson.
The family would like to thank the doctors, the staff of the second floor, PCCU nurses and Sandra of Holston Valley Medical Center for taking care of my husband and our father.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Castlewood Masonic Lodge 231 AF&AM and UMWA Local 1256.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 7:30 p.m. by Castlewood Masonic Lodge 231 AF&AM.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jerry Chandler

DANTE -- Funeral services for Jerry Chandler will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Castlewood Funeral Home Chapel. Elders Steve Mosca and Nick Trevaskis will officiate. Burial will be in Temple Hill Memorial Park in Castlewood.
Mr. Chandler, 67, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol Tennessee.
Pallbearers will be Frank Eisenbarth, Robert Clark, Garland Cornett, Danny Cornett, Clyde Cornett Sr., Dean Cornett, Clyde Cornett Jr. and Jerry Cornett. Honorary pallbearers will be W.C. Phillips, Jimmy Holbrook, Mitchell Chandler, John Phillips, Toby Counts, Bob Counts and Carmel Fuller.
Castlewood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Walter Lloyd Coe Sr.

WYTHEVILLE -- Walter Lloyd Coe Sr., 68, died Thursday in Wythe County Community Hospital.
He was a son of Mildred S. Coe of Wytheville and the late Charles R. Coe. He was a member of West End United Methodist Church for 51 years, where he served as Sunday School superintendent, lay leader and a member of many committees. He was a co-owner of Coe & Sons Inc.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife of 49 years, Wanda S. Coe; three daughters, Debbie Kinder of Wytheville, Gail Supan of Christiansburg and Lorrie Coe-Meade of Salem; a son, W.L. Coe Jr. of Wytheville; a sister, Mary Frances Rosenbaum of Wytheville; two brothers, Charles E. Coe and Robert S. Coe, both of Wytheville; three grandchildren; and two great-nieces.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Gillman Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in West End Cemetery.
Mr. Coe was also preceded in death by two grandsons, William Lloyd and Walter Sheffey Meade.
Among survivors are grandchildren Ashley Supan, Drew Coe and Daniel Meade; and great-nieces Lauren "Sunshine" and Jordan Smith.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Gillman Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to West End United Methodist Church Building Fund.

Louise T. Collins

IVANHOE, Va. -- Louise Taylor Collins, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Birdmont Health Care Center.
She was born in Carroll County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Nancy Ann Waller Taylor. She was the widow of David Jackson Collins and a member of Fairview United Methodist Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Patty Blair of Ivanhoe; two sons, Leon Collins and J.D. Collins, both of Ivanhoe; three sisters, Leona Hartley of Ashtabula, Ohio, Geneva Groseclose of Ivanhoe and Donna Williams of Wytheville; a brothers, Buford Taylor of Ivanhoe; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and four step-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in Fairview United Methodist Church. The Rev. Larry Patton and Haswell E. "Bud" Stoots will officiate. The body will be taken to the church an hour before the service. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Mrs. Collins was also preceded in death by a son, Harry Collins.
Among survivors are son-in-law Reggie Blair of Ivanhoe and daughter-in-law Anita Collins of Ivanhoe.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday in Reese Funeral Home in Austinville, or any time at the residence of her son, J.D. Collins.
Reese Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Lester T. Crowder

CRIPPLE CREEK, Va. -- Lester Tipton Crowder, 83, died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, in Wythe County Community Hospital.
He was born in Friendsville, Tenn., a son of the late Elbert and Jannie Parks Crowder. He was a retired barber.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Mary Vernor Crowder; a daughter, Joyce Vaughan of Cripple Creek; five sons, Fairley Crowder of Ivanhoe, Duane "Pete" Crowder of North Wilkesboro, N.C., John Crowder of Elk Creek, Raymond Crowder of the home and Forest Crowder of Cripple Creek; two sisters, Nellie Birchfield of Kingstree, S.C., and Irene Crisp of Maryville, Tenn.; a brother, Dock Crowder of Greenback, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. in Davis Cemetery. The Rev. Jeff Callahan will officiate.
Mr. Crowder was also preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Lois Lincolnfelter.
Among survivors are son-in-law James "Tom" Vaughan of Cripple Creek; daughters-in-law Betty Jean Crowder of Ivanhoe, Betty Hicks of North Wilkesboro and Karen Crowder of Elk Creek; granddaughters Loretta Vaughan and Annasena Crowder; great-grandsons Holden and Richard Gentry; step-granddaughters Jeanette and Renea Estep; sister-in-law Johnnie Cook Crowder of Greenback; brother-in-law Lester Taylor of Fries, Va.; and sister-in-law Lessie Taylor of Fries.
There will be no visitation in Barnett Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wythe County Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 389, Wytheville, VA 24382.
