Sherman A. Pickett Hale

GLADE SPRING -- Sherman A. Pickett Hale, 70, of 36176 Rush Creek Road, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
He was born in Bandy, Va., a son of the late Cory and Nannie Mae Pickett, and had lived in Glade Spring for the past 12 years.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a former member of the VFW in California. He was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving are his wife, Laura J. Hale; four daughters, Nannie Sparks of Tucson, Ariz., Carol Pullick of Tazewell, Va., Tammy Fuller of Kentucky and Connie Hall of Newport News, Va.; two sons, Andrew Pickett of San Diego and Sherman Pickett Jr. of Tazewell; two sisters, Jeanette Ramey and Litiche Bo Gilisppie, both of Tazewell; four brothers, William J. Pickett of South Carolina, Kenneth D. Pickett of Ohio, Oliver A. Pickett of Cleveland, Ohio, and Andrew J. Pickett of Tazewell; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the graveside in Sunset Memorial Park. The Rev. J.L. DeBord will officiate. military graveside rites will be by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975.
Mr. Hale was also preceded in death by a son, Coy Panter Pickett.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Johnson Funeral Home in Damascus.

Nannie M. Hastings

MARION -- Nannie McNeil Hastings, 90, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Smyth County Community Hospital.
She was the widow of Edwin Warren Hastings and a member of Royal Oak Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are four sons, Edwin C. Hastings of Roanoke, Robert A. Hastings of Nashville, Warren C. Hastings of Marion and Charles L. Hastings of Goldsboro, N.C.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Seaver- Brown Chapel. The Revs. Alan Gray and Neville Mozingo will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Lawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Hastings' life was filled with raising her four children and helping her husband of 63 years with the family business, The Regent.
The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Seaver- Brown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Marion Life Saving Crew, P.O. Box 784, Marion, VA 24354, the American Cancer Society, c//o Lynn Manweiler, 448 Cummings St., Box 350, Abingdon, VA 24210, or the Royal Oak Presbyterian Church, 139 West Main St., Marion, VA 24354.

Will A. Jenkins

APPALACHIA -- Will A. Jenkins, 50, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in James A. and Cecile Quillen Rehabilitation Center in Johnson City.
He was a son of Ida Jenkins of Newport News, Va., and the late James A. Jenkins, and had lived in Appalachia for the past 10 years.
He was a U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy veteran. While serving in the U.S. Air Force as sergeant, he was awarded the Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Training Ribbon and the Longevity Service Ribbon.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his wife, Trina Jenkins; a daughter, Wendi Jenkins of the home; and a brother, David Jenkins of Waco, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 4 p.m. in Gilliam Funeral Home Chapel in Big Stone Gap. The Rev. Garry Arnett of West End Baptist Church in Big Stone Gap will officiate. Burial will be in American Legion Cemetery in Big Stone Gap.
Among survivors are a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday in Gilliam Funeral Home West Wing.

Henry F. Jessee

CHILHOWIE -- Funeral services for Henry F. Jessee will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Lebanon Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Roy Lee Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Russell Memorial Cemetery with military honors by Lebanon VFW Post 9864.
Mr. Jessee, 77, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.
Pallbearers will be Gary Jessee, Wes Jessee, Franklin Jessee, Jason Jessee, Med Stevens, Dual Rasnake and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Lebanon Funeral Home.

Sandra Lynn Jones

ABINGDON -- Sandra Lynn "Sandy" Jones, 57, died Sunday, Feb. 6, 2000, in Johnston Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Hartwell, W.Va., a daughter of Goldie Vance of Bristol Tennessee, and had lived in Abingdon most of her life.
She was a member of Charity Pentecostal Tabernacle and was a registered nurse. She was employed with Johnston Memorial Hospital for 20 years and with the office of Dr. Glover and Dr. Moore for nine years.
Surviving, besides her mother, are her husband, Jackie Jones; a son, Michael Kenneth Jones of Bristol Virginia; a sister, Donna Hall of Bristol Tennessee; two grandchildren; and a nephew.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel. The Revs. Jimmy Epperson and J.C. Steele will officiate. Burial will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Mountain View Methodist Cemetery. Family and friends may assemble at the funeral home at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday for procession to the cemetery.
Among survivors are grandchildren, Steven Michael Jones and Jonathan Ray Jones; soul sister, D. Gail Gulledge of Brandenburg, Ky.; and many cousins.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. prior to the service Monday in Farris Funeral Service Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Cancer Society, 18129 North Fork River Road, Abingdon, VA 24210.

Robert E. Koehler

BLUFF CITY -- Funeral services for Robert E. Koehler will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in Glenwood Mausoleum Chapel by Weaver Funeral Home of Bristol, Tenn. Pastor Larry E. Ball will officiate.
Mr. Koehler, 78, of 373 Sycamore Drive, died at his home.
There will be no visitation in Weaver Funeral Home.

William S. Looney

VANCE, Ala. -- Funeral services for William S. "Bill" Looney will be conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Grundy Funeral Home Chapel. Evangelists Clarence Greenleaf and Mike Rife will officiate. Burial will be in Greenhills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill, Va.
Mr. Looney, 33, formerly of Buchanan County, died Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
He was born in Buchanan County, a son of Donald G. and Carolyn Greenleaf Looney of North Tazewell, and had lived in Buchanan County for several years prior to moving to Vance.
He was a member of Grundy Church of Christ and a graduate of Grundy High School, Class of 1984.
He was an employee of GJM Mining Co. Inc. of Birmingham, Ala.
Surviving, besides his parents, are his wife, Joetta Vandyke Looney; a son, William Graham Looney of Vance; a sister, Christelle Louse Bostic of Tazewell, Va.; two brothers, Donny Looney of Hickory, N.C., and Shannon Looney of Bristol Virginia; his maternal grandfather, evangelist Clarence Greenleaf of Grundy; and several nieces and nephews.
Among survivors are brother-in-law, Ronnie Bostic of Tazewell.
Pallbearers will be Dave Moore, Craigg Shipp, Bradley Vandyke, Craig Vandyke, Wayne Looney, Steve Looney, Tim Hyde, David Mark Shortridge and Jerry Gilbert. Honorary pallbearers will be uncles and brothers-in-law.
Friends may call at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel, where services will be held at 7 p.m.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred McGuire

ABINGDON -- Memorial services for Mildred McGuire will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands. The Rev. Eddie Nash will officiate. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery in Tazewell, Va.
Miss McGuire, 102, formerly of Cedar Bluff, died Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2000, in an Abingdon nursing home.
Memorial contributions may be sent to Cedar Bluff Presbyterian Church, Box 746, Cedar Bluff, VA 24609.
Hurst-Scott Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Dean Pennington

BLOUNTVILLE -- Funeral services for Gary Dean Pennington will be conducted Monday at 8 p.m. in Weaver Funeral Home Chapel in Bristol, Tenn. The Rev. Joe Lang will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday prior to the service in the funeral home. The body will be taken to Ligon, Ky., where the family will receive friends at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the Church of God of Prophecy. Funeral services will be conducted in Kentucky Thursday at 11 a.m. The Revs. Ralph Hall, Don Jr. Fraley, Louis Fandlin and David Pike will officiate. Burial will be in Newman Cemetery in High Hat, Ky.
Mr. Pennington, 49, of 276 Buncombe Road, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000.
He was born in Ligon, a son of Beatrice Pennington of Ligon and the late Hershel Lee Pennington, and had lived in the Bristol area since 1990, moving from Williamsburg, Va. He was of the Pentecostal faith.
Surviving, besides his mother, are four sons, Christopher Pennington, Bobby Pennington, Robert Daniel Pennington and Justin Pennington, all of Blountville; three brothers, Hershel Lee Pennington Jr. of Detroit, and Danny Pennington and Dwight Pennington, both of Ligon; three sisters, Cheryl Johnson, Judy Blankenship and Connie Plakus, all of Ligon; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Pennington was also preceded in death by a brother, Joe Pennington.
Among survivors is a special friend, Chrystal Charmine Waltrip.
Weaver Funeral Home and Nelson-Frazier Funeral Home of Martin, Ky., are in charge of arrangements.

Clarice Richardson

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Clarice Richardson, 70, of Cicero Avenue, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, in Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
She was a daughter of the late Wesley and Bertha Rose Fogleman.
Surviving are her husband, Don M. Richardson; a daughter, Donna Richardson; two sons, Larry Richardson and Daniel Richardson; two sisters, Laura Leonard of Bristol Tennessee and Thelma Nash of Bristol Virginia; a brother, Gilmer "Jim" Fogleman of Bristol Virginia; three granddaughters; and a great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 8 p.m. in Doughty-Stevens Chapel. The Revs. Dennis Shumate and J.L. Gudger will officiate. Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Greene Lawn Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
